FYI, Integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics. Good deal

  • i5… 8gb…. top of the line?

    • +18

the model is top of the Dell Latitude line, Latitude 7000. The particular configuration is not the cream of the cream, but it's sweet for the price. Yes you can have those innards cheaper if you go Lenovo or Dell Inspiron, hell, you can even have them for half the price if you go all the way to Inspiron 3000, here you are paying extra for: build quality and reliability, proven keyboard design, great screen, large battery, optimized power consumption.. why am I even explaining this, this is business grade machine, not some consumer throwaway.

      • Fair call! Had a sticky beak at the NBC review and it looks pretty decent. I think we have some of these at my work and the keyboard keys are really small from memory?

        • +1

I think I hear it about 20% of the time with 73XX. It's a matter of preference / hand size / etc. I had it side by side with my Precision 3530, that one has a full size keyboard with numpad, and I can tell that I actually prefer 7390 keyboard just because I have to move my hands around less, easier to touch type.

        • I have one for work and use it to take notes. The keyboard is a bit smaller than full size, but I switch between my desktop and this all day and havr no issues. It feels like best laptop keyboard I have ever used.

    • +1

though you do make a valid point, I updated the listing to clarify this is not the top configuration. oh well, I'd rather get it, and spend some cash upgrading (more RAM if you're determined that 8gb is not enough, and extra SSD to go into that M.2 2242). M.2 2242 SSD is around $80 for 256gb (I bought Transcend for mine).

      • Cool mate, thanks for the info.
One question, the Dell website and NBC review state it is a matte/non touchscreen however that listing says touch…. I'm assuming the eBay listing is incorrect?

        • Hang on I expanded the specs on the dell site and it lists anti glare touch as an option

  • Looks great confirm new one not the refurbished?

    • +2

ACT has them listed as brand new, we can sue them if the box is as much as opened.

    • seller stepped forward and clarified: brand new, sealed, but out of Dell factory warranty. If you would like to have Dell premium warranty attached, you will have to pay Dell $200 for it. listing updated. the deal is not so sweet now. bugger

  • Does this come with a GST tax invoice for TRS purposes?

    • at the bottom of the listing it says "tax invoice" as part of the package, I would choose to believe.

  • Would this be good enough for light gaming?

    • -1

Yes, even some modest games if you put on ultra-low/low setting.

    • +1

no, only integrated video. I don't think this will do much gaming, not 3D kind anyway.

    • +2

Depends on the game, I had this with a lower model of an i5-xxxxU, older Intel GPU, 8gb ram, and I could play basic games like, payday 2, Team Fortress 2, Gmod, tomb raider 2013, and a few more, don't expect top tier performance and good cooling, but that's my 2 cents

    • Not really — I have a different Dell with the same graphics chipset, and it is struggle-town for gaming.

Eg. "Gwent" and "Thronebreaker" are only just playable, and their graphics detail is really quite basic. (Gwent is just a card game)

Civilisation VI in the lowest possible graphics detail is still at painful low framerates.

  • So with extra slot available for an SSD, is it easy to install in, just a mattet of snapping it in?

    • yes, but you will most likely need an M2x3 screw to affix the SSD. The slot is there, but Dell never includes the spare screw.

    • actually, this model comes with a spare screw according to the reviews

  • +1

why doesnt this come with a Dell warranty?

    • I quote, "All products are covered with a 90 days RTB warranty unless specified different".

Also noticed it's a touch screen panel!

    • +2

I asked the seller to clarify. will update the listing when I know more. Anyway every Latitude comes with Dell warranty, the warranty starts from the day reseller is invoiced for the lot. it is warranty period + 3 months, so Dell allows 3 months for the product to get from reseller to customer.

      • +1

hope seller will clarify as the listing states 'ACT Supplied 12 Months warranty' which sounds like it's refurb instead of new and hence no Dell warranty.

        • That’s what i was wondering

        • +1

seller stepped forward and clarified: brand new, sealed, but out of Dell factory warranty. If you would like to have Dell premium warranty attached, you will have to pay Dell $200 for it. listing updated. the deal is not so sweet now. bugger

says RAM is soldered and can't be upgraded, which would be a deal breaker.

    • hmmm NBC has a different image, here it is: https://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/Notebooks/Dell/Latit…
last time I opened one there was a slot.

    • sorry for confusion, I updated the listing this is not the 2-in-1 variety, just the normal 7390, but with touch screen

    • says RAM is soldered and can't be upgraded, which would be a deal breaker.

7390 2-in-1 RAM is soldered on
7390 clamshell (regular) RAM can be upgraded.. although RAM these days cost an arm and a leg :(

      • +1

Not really, RAM prices have been taking a nosedive recently so it's probably cheaper than you remember.

  • Has anyone bought it? I am a bit hesitated as this is the only brand new condition laptop in the store.

    • +1

Even if it is refurb, Dell has NBD onsite warranty service, and right now this is even cheaper than Dell's own outlet.

      I haven't bought from BNEacttrader but I have bought a 7390 refurb from Dell Outlet as well as 2 x 7390 2-in-1s.
One of the 7390 2-in-1 I bought was a lemon, and the onsite technician pretty much swapped out everything but the bottom plate and battery..

      For my 7390 2-in-1 lemon..
      Screen had touch-issues, swapped.
Keyboard did not deactivate when folded back into tablet mode, first the entire keyboard housing (and essentially the top half of the two piece bottom), was swapped + touchpad is integrated into that..
Then they swapped the motherboard too (which has soldered RAM and cpu) because the sensor for tablet mode is in there

All done on-site (they come to you, no need to send the laptop to Dell)

Disclaimer: I work for one of the nine companies that form Dell Technologies, but not Dell Computers.
I only bought the refurb 7390 2-in-1 because I got given one for work and was so impressed by the quality I was converted to business-grade laptops only.

Previous purchases before the 7390s are:
      Asus zenbook (UX303LB)
      Asus N43JF
      Lenovo e520

      • yep, I have technicians visit me once in a while :) a key on a keyboard gets a bit softer than the others? tomorrow there's a Dell technician at your office, replacing everything but the power cord.

      • +1

is the NBD onsite warranty still applicable even if we purchased through this eBay store? The warranty states 'ACT Supplied 12 Months warranty'

        • I have requested warranty clarification from the trader

    • seller stepped forward and clarified: brand new, sealed, but out of Dell factory warranty. If you would like to have Dell premium warranty attached, you will have to pay Dell $200 for it. listing updated. the deal is not so sweet now. bugger

    • +4

I would say no. Inspiron is consumer grade. Latitude is business grade. Latitude is superior to Inspiron.

    • I'm no laptop expert, but no. The other deal is for a consumer grade laptop that retails at $1600, whilst this deal is for a premium commercial grade laptop which retails at over $2000. Spec wise, they look similar to me. I am confident that the build quality of this deal would be far superior.

  • Supporting OPs claims, these are very well built laptops and really do last. I find them quiet too.

    • I don't know how they do it. I have a Precision 3530 with i5-8300H, and it keeps cool and silent through day-to-day operations. When loading it with photo processing, yes the fan kicks in, but it is so quiet that I hardly notice it.

      • Saw your post for the precision. Shame I missed it. Girlfriend is looking for a 15in laptop for her mum

        • it was promptly moved into the dumpster as an unterdeal. btw you can still get one at around $1700 from a few places, with updated i5-8400H, too, still a bargain for the money. I am sure your girlfriend's mom would appreciate Intel vPro, and you would appreciate it, too. Imagine being able to manage her laptop even if it's out of band. wowza

Interestingly, came across a few articles on high failure rates for them:
      https://www.dell.com/community/Latitude/Major-Latitude-7390-…
      https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/8wbhhv/high_failu…
      https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/8hncau/latitude_7390_…

had one for work and didn't have any dramas personally.

      • Probably just a higher number of instances given how many of these are sold. We've got a thousand of these floating around my company for the past year and failure has been unheard of. The previous gen seem pretty solid as well. That's pretty good given the solid use most of us give these machines. I know my team usually has one virtual desktop, half a dozen plus multi-link/calc Excels, Chrome, IE and Adobe. Out of 32gb of ram, mine's usually at half capacity most of the day.

Anyway, definitely recommend these for home use.

        • +1

Read through the links, seems like there are some quality issues, perhaps in some of the earlier batches or specific configurations. The reports ain't from individual consumers, its from decent sized deployments.

      • We use these a lot for work.

        Great laptop but.

The cooling ducts aren't brilliantly placed so they can overheat.

I've advised all staff to have them sitting up a bit and I also install Core Temp to be always in the notification area.

The price of these is outstanding. Battery lasts all day and with USB-C charging you've got a lot of charging options if they do run out.

You can also get a 2-in-1 for about $1120. That's my pick personally.

  • -4

Dell latitudes are sh*t compared to lenovo T series and the hp probooks. U need to buy their precision line up to get decent quality. I would save the money and go for the inspiron with similar specs.

    • What's so sh*t about the Latitudes compared to Lenovo T, and HP Probook?

    • +1

I would say that if you can get a good deal on Lenovo T or W or P model, go for it. HP is inferior in every way. this is how I would rank them in terms of quality
      1. Latitude 7000
      2. Lenovo T
      3. Latitude 5000

precision comes with Quadro video cards, not everyone would appreciate it, so do Lenovo P. HP probook is a glorified waffle maker when it comes to ergonomics.

    • +1

Dell latitudes are sh*t compared to lenovo T series and the hp probooks

      Not the latitude 7000 series..

Sibling has T series for her work.
My latitude 7390 2-in-1 and her personal 7390 2-in-1 are MUCH nicer.
Also seen many T460s through my time.

Open one up and look at the innards to fully appreciate the materials used.

That's how I found Asus Zenbooks were not aluminium unibody. The ux303 I had, is aluminium layered ontop of cheap plastic.

      Cannot comment on hp probook.

  • don't expect this will cover by Dell AUSTRALIA's warranty, most likely it is oversea custom order/warranty replacement. remind you that it's win10 home not pro, 1 year not standard 3yrs warranty. And for the quality, Dell Latitude's faulty rate is highest among elitebook and thinkpad T.

    • It also specific states

      ACT Supplied 12 Months warranty

Not Dell warranty, so not sure where people are getting that from.

    • seller stepped forward and clarified: brand new, sealed, but out of Dell factory warranty. If you would like to have Dell premium warranty attached, you will have to pay Dell $200 for it. listing updated. the deal is not so sweet now. bugger

  • Is there a variation in keyboard layout? The machine featured in the Notebook Check review seems to have a smaller LHD Shift and Return key.

  • +2

    Hi All.

Just to clarify again, these units are brand new sealed box. They are warranty replacements from Dell for stock that is now out of warranty. We are covering them with our own standard 12 month parts and labour warranty.

We did run the exercise of contacting Dell to see if we could add a Dell warranty to these items as they are technically brand new. They did say yes and provided some pricing however we did not run the processes fully and can not guarantee it. It would only work if the end user called through to add it. Premium support 1yr approx $200 2yr approx $400 basic support 1yr $198 2yr $363

    • What are “warranty replacements from Dell for stock that is now out of warranty”?

    • +1

thank you for clarifying. however this should have been stated in the eBay listing, I would suggest. people have right to know exactly what they are buying.

      • +1

It's Ebay, plenty sellers trying to sneak one through and you've just gotta be on the ball.

First thing you should check for any tech on Ebay that's priced too good to be true is who provides warranty. If it's the seller then something's up and you need to decide if you're willing to take the risk.

  • +1

What are people's thoughts even though it's brand new these have documented problems and unless local to the shop, it would be an effort for warranty issues? Portable devices I tend to like warranty on

    • +2

I am concerned with it myself, seller should have been upfront about it in the listing.

This model is highly regarded for its reliability. But if you'd like a peace of mind, I would suggest getting Dell Pro Warranty (on site service), seller suggests $200 per year (it is a normal price for it). This is how I would play it: leave the item sealed in the box until the warranty is attached. Dell will ask for photos of the unit. Maybe you could beat them into submission to give you a discount on it, since it's brand new and sealed.

      • +2

This model is highly regarded for its reliability.

In all honesty, if you look at the reddit and Dell Community threads for this particular model, it does seem as if the reliability is a bit dodgy on this model. I'm usually all for Latitudes (especially over Inspirons and Vostros), but this reliability of this model put me off, especially without a Dell Factory Warranty. Still think Bneacttrader is a great seller, though!

Further discussion here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/439840 - one of the poor posters @willyroo in this thread had his laptop die and repair and die again (to the point of being refunded) during the thread!

        • +1

Exactly that is my worry, I did read through and alot of them appear to be caused by abnormal heat or something weird happened when plugging into the dock. The most recent one was this year and if they had an upgraded motherboard, I'm sure that would be the fix and there would be no more complaints not just keep on replacing with the same part with no idea why it popped in the first place.

Solid price but not if it's going to break U til you have no warranty then your on your own with a great paperweight

          • @Midz: You could also use it as a solid doorstop. ;D

        • :)
Had to threaten legal action to get the payment actually processed BTW. Refund received 18 March, nearly 4 weeks after the problems started.

This is a sensational bit of kit when it works. So if you buy it, get the Dell onsite warranty.

          Simples.

  • Top of the line latitude with latest gen i5 for < $1k = up voted

    • +1

I wish it had Dell warranty, too. But I am hoping to figure something out for fellow ozbargain members, if the seller coopeeates a bit more..

      • I haven't pulled the trigger as 2 year dell warranty on this would be ideal. $400 extra is a huge markup compared to the actual selling price of the unit. Hope you can work something out with the seller.

        • +3

I know, there are better deals out there occasionally. ah, screw this. I was hoping to get some proper hardware for fellow ozb members. but let's see what I can figure out.

          • @[Deactivated]: Looking at the comments now, doesn't appear that you made any progress with the seller? Real shame for such a well speced device. I don't need one but with TRS it's so cheap and can replace my aging sp3

            • @rexii2300: basically this is a batch of laptops intended for a replacement of some sort, which didn't happen. there's no other development possible in this direction apart from buyers negotiating with Dell directly to get a Dell warranty at $200 a year, if they are not happy with store warranty that is.

        • Same here, I am a bit hesitated due to the warranty.

  • Hey guys, I understand that the xps13 is significantly more expensive but if I were to consider the FHD version of the xps13 is there much difference this and the xps13? is PCIe SSD much different than M.2 SSD?

Im having trouble choosing between the two: I would be using the laptop mainly for work purposes - to view MRI images (so a high quality screen is needed), typing alot and good battery life is preferable. Anyone have suggestions to which one I should consider purchasing?

  • +1

    FYI re: Build Quality.

    I have a LATITUDE E7270 13.3inch, looks near identical.

My wife dropped the laptop from 30cm onto timber floorboards and cracked the case.

It's understandable that the case cracked a little, and it still works fine.

The issue is the hinge. It feel very solid, however what looks like a solid metal hinge is deceiving, the hinge is only mounted to a small plastic section to the body case.

So now, the screen is only held on using 1 hinge! lol

Having said that, I'm tempted to buy this.

Anyone know where I can fix it in Melbourne other than Dell? Dell are quoting $360.

    • +2

When I had an Inspiron many years back, I was able to download the service manuals from Dell directly and obtain the part numbers and order direct. Not sure if you can still do that now, but worth a shot if you wanted to DIY.

There was also an option to do their free online training and become some kind of Dell tech which enables you to jump the flowchart muppet support queue and order parts directly, too.

      • Great idea. Thanks I will look into it.

      • +1

you can use your service tag, and open original configuration for that unit, I can give you a link, it is publicly available. it gives you all the parts that went into it originally, along with part numbers. easy!

        • Great, I have service tag.

          Do you have the link?

          • +1

            @JimB: https://www.dell.com/support/home/au/en/audhs1/product-support/servicetag/your service tag/configuration?ref=captchasuccess

    • Here's a photo of the broken hinge https://imgur.com/ejj9piU

      • I have repaired a DELL laptop with a broken hinge recently and I wouldn't recommend DIY especially if you have no experience with the similar repairs before.

        • Yeah no experience.

          Was it the same damage?

          What was the parts cost?

          • @JimB: Yes similar damage but different model and I bought parts off eBay for quite cheap.

  • There seems to be 2 design variations in this laptop. One with a thicker upper bezel and one with a thinner upper bezel with a Windows Hello camera. The one in the NBC review is the one with the thicker bezel and non touchscreen. Anyone know which one this is?

  • +1

Can I have $0 please I'm very poor and have a lot of debt

    • -1

then you'll appreciate not buying this laptop without warranty and getting deeper into debt :)

      • In regards to unpublishing the deal, we won't unpublish deals that are more than an hour old, or has accumulated a significant number of votes and comments. It's likely that someone who stumbles on the deal will just re-post it anyway, so unpublishing it and removing all the (useful) comments along with it is kinda moot.

        • fair enough, though it is my deal, and I should have a voice in what happens to it, don't you think? store warranty is fine, but they only have a store in Brisbane, so it's not as good as I thought.

          • @[Deactivated]:

though it is my deal, and I should have a voice in what happens to it, don't you think?

Could look at it from another perspective that this is not your site and you don't get to make the rules.

Another view could be that you didn't exactly pay much attention to what you were posting. Seller warranty on Ebay should always make you look a little harder. Took me all of 60 seconds to find the seller's own website where they clearly point out "They are warranty replacement units from Dell, as such they are brand new, but do not come with warranty direct from Dell."

Put it down to a learning experience and try a little harder next time.

            • @OzBragain: amusing :) thank you! lesson learned :D can't remember asking for your no doibt valuable opinion, but that happens to me a lot around here :) my post, my rules!

                You're welcome, always a pleasure.

Didn't ask for my valuable opinion on the warranty either but I thought I'd share that too for the benefit of others.
