[ACT] Free Travel on Transport Canberra Services (Bus, Light Rail) for 1 Month Starting 29 April for My Way Card Users

721

Minister Fitzharris said light rail will also begin in April, which will integrate with the bus network so commuters can use their MyWay card across both modes of transport.

“Whether you catch light rail, buses or both, you will only need one MyWay card and you will be charged the same fee, although both buses and light rail will be free for the first month.

“We don’t have an exact date for light rail yet, but we are confident it will begin either before or at the same time as the new bus network begins.

Canberra Times says you need a My Way Card for the free trips

Transport Canberra will also offer a free month of travel for all commuters travelling with MyWay cards to entice people to use the new integrated public transport network.

Preventing light rail vehicles from hitting pedestrians.

Can't do anything if a muppet crosses the road ignoring a red signal, wearing headphones and not checking.

Woo hoo! My only grump is that they insist on calling them My Way cards when the new ones are branded as 'TC' for transport Canberra.

    • The new cards still say my way on the back..

      • +1

I know, I have both after misplacing my original my way card. As a result I think of them differently, one as my 'My way' and the other as my 'transport Canberra' card

$65000000/356,585 = $182.28 per year for every man woman and child in the ACT.

Technically this is not free. But if you pay rates in any form home, business or rent, you are already paying for this if you live in Canberra.

I gotta say though, when those electric self driving ubers and google cars come to town it will be fun to watch that steam train trundle along. Will certainly save us the cost of taking the kids to the museum. Oh wait.. My bad! The museum is free.

Hmmm, $707,000,000 to build and it serves a population of 100,000 in North Canberra and Gungahlin. $7,000 per person, about $20,000 per household. Cheaper to buy every family a new car…

      • But then you have the problem of finding space to store 30,000 vehicles. I understand Gungahlin roads are a shitshow as it is.

  • Direct bus to work replaced by two busses - that miss the connection by 2 minutes. New interchange system being deployed just in time for Canberra winter. Free is not cheap enough!

    Any deals on extra cars?

    • otoh two buses are replaced by one for me

Last time I checked the draft plan they had completely cut off service to some business parks too.
Luckily not mine but yeah have to now do a change myself. Scrapping the whole concept of peak hour special services just contradicts common sense.

      • +1

Yeah, as well as business parks, they have cut the '3' bus service to ANU, which is insane, parking is already near impossible, and a service from the Uni to the main bus interchange seems a silly thing to remove.

    Hahahahaha… free…
You’ll pay for it through taxes anyway.

  • I heard that a tram, oops light rail…driver ran a red light in the ACT, apparently has been stood down while its investigated.
