Are the seats in economy cabins assembled using 10G x 40mm Phillips Drive screws?
No.
Flat-head screws, actually.
Cabin or carriage? I think this offer is only for carriages.
Last time I used them from Brisbane - Sydney, it was pretty bad. We used the economy on the way down and it was quite squishy and there was a squeaking part of the train the whole night - just when you fell asleep it would screech. Also, the aircon is pretty cold - I wished I'd bought a jumper or a blanket or something. By the time we got there, I was totally frozen. Small meals (fish and vegetables were on the menu back then) are something like $7-10. There was also a woman sleeping on the floor.
On the way back, we went with the first class ones (it was some ridiculously small amount dearer at that point) and, apart from wider seats and fewer of them, it was probably worse. It was really dirty. But economy was completely full and it smelt more than a little funky back there.
I used it because I didn't want to fly and it was an equivalent price maybe four years ago. I wouldn't do it again, but you might have a better time than I did :).
I'm impressed this deal can be combined with the "kids for $1" promo.

For 1 adult and the stated maximum 4 kids per household, that's a round trip cost Sydney - Brisbane for $143 total.
Good price for those travelling to regional areas, but Brisbane or Gold Coast, why not just get a cheap airfare with jetstar or virgin??
because some people hate flying and/or prefer train travel?
If you look at the fares on adioso, the cheapest SYD-BNE return flight in the travel period is $39pp one-way, so 1 adult + 4 kids by Jetstar would be $390 return without paying for luggage.
Because Sheldon LOVES trains!!!
