      • Yeah, I had a date in Dec 2017 supposedly (which was never going to happen) Then it was pulled and now it's Jul 2019 * some properties may take longer

And they're going crazy cutting up concrete all over my neighborhood to lay new HFC lead ins (and at least two full new runs down the streets of HFC).

      • I've had my NBN HFC connection for 18mths, our neighbours can't get it yet.
Apparently because I had a Telstra Cable outlet.

The HFC rollout has been a joke, especially since (Tony & Malcom?) got them to buy the Optus Cable network ~$1b and then decide it wasn't fit for purpose. Think of all that fibre they could have installed.

      • Mine was to go live Dec 15th 2017 and then they pulled it a few days before (HFC). Now its April 19th 2019. Better not screw me again, although I've prepared the lube in anticipation.

And just checked again as was going to pre order and its moved to May 19th. FFS…

  • Wish I could switch over from telstra but am under contract until November unfortunately.

  • Says ‘invalid promo code provided’…

    • I'm getting the same. :(

      • What plan are you selecting? Only works on the 50 & 100 Unlimited plans.

        • Ah yes. I was trying to do a 100 / 500GB and then go up if I needed more. But have signed up with Unlimited and will go down after 6 months if I don't need it to be unlimited.

          • @Justiny: Will they shown usae when you are on unlimited plan?

          • @Justiny: Yep, that’s the way to do it. Also with the ‘Build Your Own Plan’ selector you can set it at a lower point, then increase it during the month if you need more data. Or you can just put up with being shaped!

            https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/faqs/nbn/newplans/

Don’t want to be shaped? At any time you can request a mid-period plan change to. Increase your data allowance, which will take effect immediately. You just need to pay the difference between your current plan and the new plan. This can be done as a once-off (ie the new plan will only be active for the rest of the billing period, then you’ll automatically move back to your old plan) or permanently (ie the new plan will be active until you submit another plan change). Plan changes can be done easily through MyAussie or by calling our Accounts team on 1300 880 905.

Just make sure though you select the custom plan to be sure you’re not on a contract as if you are, you can only move between the Unlimited 50 & 100 plans.

SnoozeAndLoopse: They show your data usage (up and down) on the Unlimited plans.

  • Signed up yesterday with the one free month :(
Was on the phone for 30 mins but they wouldn't help me out.

    • To be fair, it's only $20 difference (if you go the $100 plan).

Not sure if it will affect many’s decision here, but I use these guys as an ISP, late last month I had a few things stop working, namely a VPN and plex server. Turns out they quietly rolled out CGNAT to many customers, so for a few hair pulling days thinking it had to be something I broke, I finally found the answer on whirlpool.

It may not prove to be a deal breaker for most/many here, especially given that you call them and they will let you opt-out and get a real IP, but it was an amount of frustration caused from the zero notice given before the forced change that I found a little annoying. It only ended up being a 35 minute call to support to fix it but… still.

    • +1

Yeah I had the same issue with Battlefield V. Couldn't connect most of the time when I first switched. Stumbled on a whirlpool thread and recalled CG-NAT on ozb when I signed up (first month free). Sent through a ticket and said they were aware of the problem with EA servers and CG-NAT and opted me out.

Highly recommend them so far, basically full speed all the time and connected within 1h of calling up and bringing the start date forward.

      • How do you check if you've been opted out?

        • I can't see anywhere but once the ticket reply came back saying I had been opted out, the issues went away immediately.

          • @Brouw3r: okay awesome. I game online occasionally so I'm thinking when I sign up I may as well opt out. There's no disadvantages of opting out right?

            • +1

@slosh: No disadvantages to opting out that I'm aware of, I have only seen negatives using it.

        • +2

Go to whatismyip.com and check what it says your IP is, then log in to your router and see what it thinks your WAN IP is. If they match you have opted out. If they are different you are still on CG-NAT.

          • @PiratePete1911: Yeah, this, I think my router was reporting a 100.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address… once it went back to 61.xxx.xxx.xxx everything started working again…

    • +1

Similar issue here. A quick call and they’ll opt you out right away.
      More info here

    • I think they’ve only rolled it out to Vic so far?

      • +1

WA as well. And only part of their Vic network.

Actually just checked and it’s now on for new customers in Tasmania and SA as well. Current customers in SA are on it as well unless opted out

        https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/aussie_broadband_cgnat

CGNAT is now the default option for new users in Tasmania, Western Australia and South Australia, as well as the following Victorian POIs:
        Ballarat
        Bendigo
        Caulfield
        Cheltenham
        Dandenong
        Exhibition
        Footscray
        Geelong
        Hawthorn
        Horsham
        Karingal
        Lilydale
        Mount Eliza
        Ringwood
        Shepparton
        Traralgon (Link 4)

Migrations for the above sites, plus WA and SA have been completed.

        • And NT, as an extension of SA, was migrated onto CGNAT too.

    • Sames. I did get a notice though:

      Dear Ryballs,

We're currently implementing some system changes in response to an increasing worldwide shortage of the IP addresses that are used to connect you and your devices to the rest of the world.

Most of our customers will not notice any change. However, if you're a gamer or host services, you may find an issue when using an Xbox or PlayStation.

If this is the case for you (and we do apologise for any inconvenience), please contact our Customer Support Team on 1300 880 905, and they can fix it for you.

      cheers
      The Aussie Broadband team

Hah, well there you go, I just trawled through emails to make sure I didn’t miss it, but certainly never received anything sadly :(

Good on them, for at least contacting customers about it then.

  • +3

For those getting ‘invalid promo code’, I just called them and they got me to submit the order and then applied the promo to my account after I completed it. Good luck!

UPDATE: they just called me and said it’s only for nbn 50 plans and above so they couldn’t do it for my nbn 25 plan :/ Had to cancel

  • I just spoke to AussieBroadband, this deal expires on 28/02/19 for those who are interested. Coincidentally, my next invoice date from Mate Communicate is due on that day, so I am going to make the switch a few days beforehand. Mate flat out refused to match or offer anything at all. Bye.

    • The expiry date is also in the picture.

      • I realised that after my post, thanks :D
Just signed up to move to ABB on 25th Feb.

        • I also called up and waited on hold for over 25 mins to request not to have CGNAT applied to my account. Aussie based call centre and all, but I don't think waiting that long for someone who openly advertises customer service as being top of the chops is quite right. The girl who took my call was amazing though, she even called me back because she forgot to ask me for the reason I needed a dynamic IP address and not CGNAT.

Feels like the Westnet of 2019.

  • Do you just have to sign up by the 28th Feb or be nbn connected?

    • +1

      See above.

  • These guys are pretty good but wish I stayed with MR for $60 100/40. ABB is $85 for 500gb and wouldn't give me a discount at all on router, data or bandwidth.

Any other good companies that charge less?

    • Uhm, MR changed their pricing. I don't think anyone was allowed to stay on $60 with unlimited. Besides, I never really got near that speed. Only to speedtest.net, anywhere else was more like 12Mbps.

      • with MR I struggled in peak hours a little 10 would be minimum normally around 50. but for $60 it was worth it.

    • What plan do they have that's $85 and 500gb???

And you get what you pay for. No one can be that cheap.

      • 100/40 would love a higher tier again but way too costly for the near future

        • I pay $80 for 100/40 with the discount. There is no data limit…

          • @scuderiarmani: they wouldnt give me a discount as they were between them after asking numerous times. also paid full price for the router. I dont mind the data limits to hopefully ease congestion a little. Wish I had stayed with MR till they bumped up the price a bit but ABB service is better in every way but still not perfect.

    • +1

I was on the MR plan but was forced onto a higher plan 2 months ago

      • To the current $79.99?

    • +1

Superloop are a good company and charge less. NBN50 is 69.95 for 500G.

If you have a need for a static IP. Future Broadband are a good company(business grade links sold to home users) and charge less when taking into account the IP. NBN50 $75 for 525G includes a static IP.

  • +1

ABB is starting to piss me off. Especially because they need a months notice before you cancel. (profanity) ridiculous.

    • Starting? They've always had that rule since a year ago at least.

    • I left them in April last year only to join them again in December. But when I cancelled with ABB, they told me that you can cancel anytime before the start of the next billing cycle and yes I did mention the 30 day notice on their website which the rep told me to ignore.

      • yes I did mention the 30 day notice on their website which the rep told me to ignore.

I wonder if you'd get that response in email?

        • I got the 30 day response in an email last time, but when I called, they said they'll cancel it straight away. Which is strange because when I emailed, they said they required a verbal response, so you basically are forced to call them anyway.

    • Technically, you can cancel at the end of your billing cycle without a month's notice. You just need to do so before the next invoice is raised.

  • Is the order confirmation supposed to reflect the discount coupon? I cannot see any indication that there is a discount.

    • Yes, usually.

      • Right. So apparently it applied to unlimited only, which was not clear at first. So it looks like it did not go through correctly, but without warning. Not too happy.

  • Thanks OP. was just about to sign up before I saw this. saved me $120

  • It looks like this is a better deal than https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/429728 because you can save $120 if you stay with ABB for 6 months.

    • I'll save $120 by being with them for 6 months with the promo code in this post. It seems your link is only valid for <100Mbps plans.

  • +1

Couldn't sign up using code, ABB staff advised only valid for 50 or 100 unlimited plans. Also 'cbf20' works too if SHOULDBE20 doesn't

  • Any suggestions for an existing ABB user that churned away from Telecube 5 months ago? My $10 discount over 6 months is expiring end of this month, need a plan to churn out of ABB and then back again for this promo.

    • I’m in the same predicament. My $10 discount ends this month as well. Don’t like my chances of ABB giving me a bigger discount for the next 6 months though.

    • Superloop have a $89.95 100/40 NBN offer
      Supposedly better network than ABB.

      • +1

My plan is Aussie Broadband for 6 months and than a switch to Superloop unless Aussie lower their price to $90.

    • How much is monthly 4G plan with unlimited data?

      • Only true 4g I know is Telstra. $199 a month but it comes with any phone you want on a 24 month contract.

        • It isn't suitable for use outside of a phone.

Data is not shareable and is for personal use in a smartphone only.
          Our FairPlay policy applies

      • -4

Don't know of any because I don't need unlimited data, I prefer consistent high speed with 200gb data over 10Mbps with unlimited data

    • No lol depends on your technology. telstra HFC was a bit more consistent download but FTTP is still better for me and very similar price.

    • That's not quite true.
It all depends on your location, what you want to do, and congestion.

  • I'm currently with Belong and have recently noticed Telstra have a weird issue with the connection out of Australia. I am getting a +50ms Ping spike (Used to get 175ms -190ms to Tokyo now 240ms-250ms). I wonder if AussieBB would be any different from Telstra's system ?

    • +1

Belong seem to just have got worse, I just bailed in favour of Telstra themselves.

    • +1

I signed up ABB few weeks ago and the international connection is slow. Im on the 100mbps plan. For the first few days the speed I could get was closed to the full speed but it's getting slower and slower. The actual speed (not speed testing speed) I can get is less than 50mbps now.

    • Belong doesn't use Telstra backhaul, last I checked. They just want you to think you are in the Telstra network.

  • I just switched to Telstra from Belong as my NBN just keeps on getting delayed and these guys on the phone said they basically couldn’t outperform Belong as with ASDL they just piggyback on Telstra like Belong do, so advised against signing up until NBN was live. Was a nice lady on the phone though so customer service seems good!

  • Do you think this will ping better than internode FTTH?
    Getting about 40ms in Melbourne
    Thanks

TPG sent me a letter months ago saying my place would be ready by 11th January. ABB said it would be ready by 4th January. NBNco says it should be ready by Jul-Sep 2019 (which has been pushed back by over a year btw). It also says that building has commenced yet I've seen nothing on my street. So I don't know where TPG and ABB got their dates from. Anyway, I signed up with ABB on the previous deal. Can't wait to leave TPG ADSL2+ as my line is always filled with error packets. Telstra techniciains have been to my place to fix the line on 4 occasions in the last 30 months! But going by the planned technology of FTTN (behind me is HFC and one block away is FTTP :(), I'm a bit worried that it'll be shit too. I feel like just going back on Optus cable tbh (haven't had them since they first came out with Optus@Home back in the early 2000s). But those 24 month contract lengths are bad. Nor do I want to pay $200 setup for no contract :/

  • Hey guys, i am on exetel 12 months contract ending june 2019. Can i preorder and take this deal too?. Also i have exetels modem, so can i reconfigure that or do i need to buy another one with AusBB?

    • +1

Pre order is generally only available 3 months or so in advanced. That’s a bit above that.

Can always try and sign up online, or call Sales and see if you can. If not, there’s a good chance this deal will show up again in the next couple of months.

    • +1

You should be able to keep your existing modem.

  • Invalid promo code provided

    • Same here..What's going on..

  • Can someone please tell me whether I should stick with Telstra and move to their NBN 100mbps or leave for Aussie Broadband's NBN 100mbps. Is there really a noticeable difference? As the price per month is only slightly more expensive with Telstra.

    Thank you

  • Yeah seems like only applicable to 50 and 100 speed tiers. Not going through with the order but will obviously be receiving a call from their sales team soon cause they have my number now. :\

  • OP… Thanks legendary! Got it!

Took me some reading to figure this out tonight for my transition to NBN and thought this may help others specifically on FTTC, FTTP, HFC and FW type connections (not FTTN or FTTB) …you MAY not need a new modem (save some $$$) with your plan (see below), if this applies to you then you're better off on the monthly no contract plan! (same price at ABB, not sure of other providers)

If you have a setup like many of us where you previously had a modem (e.g. ADSL or cable etc) taking in your internet connection to your place and passing it over Ethernet onto your WiFi gateway/router (e.g. Asus RC-AC68U or other) that served your devices in the home with WiFi etc then you don't need a special NBN modem with your plan (or buy a fancy modem/router) as the NBN Connection Device (NCD) provided by NBN Co will do the same job and pass on the Ethernet connection which you'll simply plug into your existing WiFi router/gateway (e.g. Asus RC-AC68U etc)

The only catch is if you really aren't technical and do not want to configure this (unlikely if you had this setup already!)…then get the modem/router from the provider as they'll fully support it.

    Enjoy!

    • not completely sure about the above, I just switched over this week and went with modem/router Telstra provided for free and am on HFC.

For those that do have a phone line still, I've found I need to connect my phone to the modem - and that it works through VOIP.
Unsure if having your own modem will come with a phone out capability or whether this will require extra work.

And to chime in on speeds:
      ADSL2+ I was on 11Mbit (down) and 1Mbit (up)
HFC I am currently on 46Mbit (down) and 18Mbit (up) on the 50/20 plan, 1tb download for $79 with Telstra - I signed up for a new contract back in March to get a free modem as my own one was old and faulty.

      • So you're right (see below para!) and the above suggested by me still applies if you need a phone line too then you're going to get a VOIP service now…so you need a VoIP compatible modem (either from your service provider like Telstra provided for you) or alternatively if you run a setup like the one above, I didn't get a specialised NBN modem from the service provider then you need to run a VoIP Adapter (known as an ATA) for example ABB sells them I think it's a Cisco SPA112 with 2x phone ports on it, plugs into the back of your router std Ethernet port.

I understand though not all providers will give you the VOIP settings (ABB does!) so your options may be limited to the vendor modem solution - the forums are full of info on service providers who give away the VOIP details and those who do not!

    • We do our best to support all modems. We have guides in our knowledge base and our team will help walk customers through the set up, if needed.

  • -2

I am with ABB now. Great speeds and service.

Anyone know how long I have to switch to other provider, then back to ABB to be consider a "new customer" and get these kind of promotions?

Honestly sick of how companies have zero loyalty to existing customers, but expect us to have complete loyalty to them by locking everyone in year long contracts.

  • Can anyone please comment on ABB supplies modems, Netcomm NF10WV and Netcomm NF18ACV? Worth getting one of them or is there other cheaper alternativeswith FTTN / VSDL capability?

I've googled Tangerine offers Netcomm NF18ACV for 99 delivered, but with ABB it's 149 + shipping.

  • +2

Help! Can someone advise me should I get the modem from ABB, as it costs $99?

Currently I am using Optus Cable (with a landline number). NBN-HFC is just available. I am struggling should I go to Optus 24 months (6 months free, free setup) or Aussie BB this deal.

Current setup: Optus Cable —> modem supplied by Optus —> Tp-link C3150 (wifi router)
For NBN-HFC, do I need to get ABB router if I go to ABB? I want to keep my phone number with the NBN (pay as you go)
I plan to join 50/20 plan

I also cannot find 6 month contract with ABB, either no contract or 24 hr contract. Have I missed something?

(I also cannot find any space to enter the code. But surprisingly, the summary already says : $20/month promotion discount for 6 months!) it also shows the fee is $79/month.

If I use the current router, where should I connect my phone? (currently Optus connect the phone outside the house, not connect to the optus modem)

Thank you very much for your help.

    • For NBN-HFC, do I need to get ABB router if I go to ABB? I want to keep my phone number with the NBN (pay as you go)

For NBN-HFC, NBN Co will supply a HFC Modem after you place an order with your ISP.

You can use your existing Tp-link C3150 as a Wi-Fi router, but this doesn't support VoIP (phone).
      To support phone you can:
      - buy an ATA phone adapter (from ABB or other retailers) and plug it into the C3150, or
      - buy a VoIP digital phone and plug it into the C3150, or
      - buy a VoIP router (from ABB or other retailers). Note that the C3150 is a better Wi-Fi router than the VoIP routers supplied by ABB.

    • Hi! We do not have 6 month contracts. We offer either no contract or a 24 month contract. My advice would be to get a VoIP compatible router and select the plan you want. If you have difficulty signing up online, then simply call our sales team.

  • Grrrr this makes me soooo angry - I literally just called them last week and tried to get them to match Exetel's price and they wouldn't do it. So I ended up going with Exetel. I am pretty sure I can't get out of that now as I don't believe the have a cooling off period.

    FML !!!

I started a connection with these guys. 6 weeks later I realised I was still on Optus and they never even ported me over even though I was getting bills from both aussie and Optus.
After I inquired, they went oops, pushed the button and completed. When I asked for a refund they gave me a big FU. And I got nothing.
Sad they couldn't give me a refund for the right reason but give this away to newness.

Anyway, I now upload terabytes a month for no reason other than a FU back. Wonder is 100s of Terabytes cost more that 79. Fuk knows.

    No one cares though.
Enjoy your discount newbees, good deal.

    • Hi! That sounds very odd, and I'd like to look into it further for you as we normally offer refunds in that situation. I'll be in touch shortly.

    • Hey that sounds a little like the "fees taken for no service" debacle the banking royal commission uncovered.

If I were you i'd get right on to the Telco Ombudsman to deal with that!

  • HI,

I am getting NBN with aussiebroadband thanks to this deal!
Now to decide on my BYO modem,

I am wondering which is the best NBN modem
    - starting with 50/20 unlimited plan
    - FTTP
    - primarily 2 laptops; television and few mobile phone devices
    - wifi - planning to beam NBN to upstairs 3 levels house (is that possible - or do i need extender)?
    - not really a gamer, but probably heavy on netflix / youtube.

    Please let me know.
    Thanks

  • Store rep: I'm trying to sign up to a two year contract on NBN100, to get a modem, but trying to do so with 500 GB per month. I honestly don't see myself using close to 15 gb per day, so unlimited for me is pointless.

If I try a byo plan I don't see an option for 2 years. If I try 2 years I only get the option for unlimited.

What am I doing wrong (apart from having a boy look)

    • +1

You answered your own question there. The 2 year contract (with modem) is only applicable to the 50 & 100 Unlimited plans.
