  • US plug?

    • Should be China plug.

    • Yes, US plug

      • Are the wifi channels limited vs the asia/pac versions - were these developed for the US market?

  • Anyone here have a router flashed with "asus-wrt Merlin"? If so, was it worth voiding the warranty?

    • Yes.

      • ok thanks. I've only ever tried dd-wrt on old cheapo routers and only just read about Asus' version.

You would only flash if there's certain functionality that you require that's not possible with stock ASUS FW.

Whilst stock FW is very feature rich already and would suffice for a majority of people, the Merlin FW and it's access to the Linux OS for running your own custom configs/scripts really opens up the potential.

    • I was having major dropout issues till I flashed my 68U with Merlin, never looked back.

    • Done it. No. It doesnt really provide a difference IMO. I am not sure what possible features others could be using which would make it more valuable.

  • Tempted to get as a second router to use the aimesh feature, any opinions on it? Coverage is pretty good for the house but could be better

    • Overkill to use this, it costs a premium and has ecess features for that use, and the CPU is premium and powerful, good for high through put VPN.
Look at this AC68U generic that usually can be reflashed to ASUS-WRT, or Merlin etc.

      • The Link you shared doesn’t ship to Australia :(

    • I've purchased a second one just for this purpose, maybe overkill for Aimesh, but it was a good price and the alternative AC68U in OZ can cost more…..

Also I thought I read somewhere that when you flash the TM-AC1900 to an AC68U , Asus somehow strips or disables the Aimesh feature ??

Just a heads up, I used merlin firmware for last 2 years or so (mainly to allow the US netflix workaround) , but recently went back to stock ASUS fw when I got my second router. Merlin doesn't allow MESH, hence I went back to stock.

    • Is it stable? I had the Mesh enabled a few months ago and found some wifi devices kept loosing network connection even though they were only a few metres away from the router. I also found that internal network transfer speeds started at a decent speed of 54MBytes/s but dropped to less than 15 after a few hours (tested using a iperf server on my network). Going back to Merlin and I don't have these problems

      • Well all the mesh router caters for is the kids listening to Spotify in their bedrooms. So far so good though. I can always flash back to Merlin later if needed.

  • Any1 tried Rt AX88U ?? Is it worth buying at thiz time ?

I just bought the lower end AC66U for $220 to replace my pfSense box and it's the best router I've ever used. This is a great deal

Does it cover three years Manufacturer warranty? At ebay you get same for extra $54 with three years warranty - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/273374063825

  • I have this router running NBN100 FTTP. Solid device, with very good range. Another plus is you can turn off the front panel LED lights. The only downside I can see is it takes absolute ages to reboot/power up if you reboot it for any reason.

    It's $199 at MSY.

    • You mean the ac68u, not this one ac86u…

      • Ah you are right, rather confusing names they chose there. Is there a significant difference between the two? Quite close in price.

  • Is the RT-AC68U significantly different (other than age)?
