Could probably skip a step and go straight to Coles.

    • +1

      well tickle me pink,

jamie is right, gnocchi isnt pasta!

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnocchi

      did not know that

      • -1

gnocchi is just as easy to make as pasta, the fact it is not fresh from a restaurant where they charge a premium is disgusting.

        • +3

Have you tried making Gnocchi? Pasta is dead simple, Gnocchi can very easily end up not being like a 'cloud pillow' and can be a stone. Most people I know who make fresh pasta can't make gnocchi as they claim it's actually very difficult.

          • @drewbles: I make it every week.

It's easy and always been better than packet gnocchi.

        • +1

Hahaha i remember this.. I say this everytime I see gnocchi:)
          ITS NOT PASTA ITS POTATOES!!!

        • “Gnocchi is potatoes not pastas”

          Classic!

    • 'Why pay money for something you can do yourself at home?'

With her reasoning, why was she at a restaurant at all?

  • Not in Melbourne

  • +3

Didn't Jamie's close down…? I thought the whole chain was in liquidation/under administration.

    • It is under administration and it is still running

      • -4

This is probably a cash grab then shutdown in Jan before the offer is actually available to redeem.

        • +4

How is this a cash grab? You can only redeem it once you’re sitting down in the restaurant…

  • +3

Very bad experience. Will not go again

    • I always meant to go to the one in Adelaide, but the location made me assume I couldn’t afford it.

      • +2

Not worth it. Very over priced for what you get and it doesn't even taste that great.

      • +2

I went while traveling there once, it feels like it should be more expensive than it is.

The building was an old bank and they have kept the old style design in the resturant. The bathrooms are downstairs in the vaults right next to the big safe which was also cool.

    • +1

Ditto - Went to the Sydney restaurant when it first opened - GREAT, a year later, not so good, a year after that never again

  • I don’t think Jamie has many fans given the state of his restaurants

    • +5

I've tried them. If you order the right things, you can enjoy some good food for passable value. I've only been once in the past 12 months. I'll likely take up this offer.

    • +6

He's a good chef and has done a lot for school dietary programs but yeah his restaurants are a different story evidently…

      • Yea a British chef. Thanks for the native English tongue.

  • +1

Mass produced slop. Couldn't believe how bad it was.

  • Garbage food. Had it in UK and Australia it's absolutely trash.

  • Horrible… Pizza huts all u can eat buffets back in the 90s tasted better than the crap they served.

  • Didn't all his restaurants go bust ?

    • Jamie's restaurants in Australia have been under administration twice.
I believe they are no longer under administration.

      • Yea, it's now under ozb watchdog :)

  • Love Jamie but hate his restaurants

    • -1

      You know him personally?

  • +1

Last years promotion of $10 pastas stacked with kids eat free promotion

    2 adults and 4 kids for $20

    • didn't stack in adelaide

  • The one in Adelaide is not good.

    • None of them are.

      • I didn't mind one at Covent Garden some years back…

      • +3

Holy shit is this the infamous Broden?

        • A wild Broden appears!

    • Adelaide is better than Sydney though.

      • Lol, we'll have to take your word for it since no one has any reason to stop in Rome Adelaide

      • Are you sure? The fireworks is better in Sydney though…

  • +11

I'd watch a Kitchen Nightmares set in Jamie Oliver's restaurants.

    • now that would be interesting to watch

Crap food, not worth buy one get one free.

    • +2

It's not crap. Not great though

  • -3

Jamie is UKs version of Ian Hewitson.

    • Iain is a god damn national treasure (even if he was originally a kiwi)!

After watching him after school for so long thinking how shit the food looked, he earned my respect in how he was able to keep making crap shows.

  • Overpriced slop from my experience. You got to know what to order. Basically stick to bread

  • +2

    Thanks OP.
We went to the Brisbane one two months ago and thought the food was great.
    Will happily return

  • +1

As someone said to me recently in light of his troubles, which I totally agree with

people love his no frills, budget and simple foods to try/make at home,

but not many want to go out and pay for it and eat out

  • I went last year in Brisbane, some dishes were actually quite good (risotto and caprese salad) but the steak and pasta dishes were just awful. Disappointing for me because I actually like his cooking shows

  • +2

This place is shit. Worse than a dog's breakfast

  • +1

Not sure if this is just a Perth thing, but I've never had a bad dish there. Sure - it isn't fine dining italian, but I've had worse at local Italian restaurants for much higher price.

  • +2

Gave this place two chances in Brisbane but will not be going back even with buy one get on free. Both times pasta was under seasoned and over cooked. Server claimed they cook it that way because people complained when it was not super soft. Icing in the cake was being given the EFTPOS terminal and told to enter the tip with the serving hovering over me.

    • I had the same experience in Brisbane, including the attempt to pressure me into a tip. I was wondering if the staff were fed up with the $10 pasta deal because there's no way I could see the small serves of overcooked pasta we got actually running $25+

If that really was the usual product it's no surprise they ended up in administration…

    • -1

That's normal for restaurants and the way it should be if the machine asks for a tip.

If the staff skip the tip screen then they could have given themselves a tip with you knowing. When you enter your pin you are then accepting what was entered.

Press enter, move past the screen, type in your pin. It isn't hard.

      • Oh come off it. The business is called hospitality for a reason. I don't want a waiter putting an EFTPOS terminal in my face in front of a date and hearing him say "Would you like to tip sir?". Which is exactly what happened at Jamie's Italian in Brisbane.

If this guy earned a tip by going ABOVE and BEYOND his job description them I would 100% give him a sizeable tip. On this occassion he did not.

We pay through the roof for restaurants in Australia and a large part of that is that our government thankfully agrees that hospitality workers should warn a living wage.

(profanity) off back to the USA with your asking for tips bullshit.

Also I own a restaurant and my terminals do NOT have a prompt asking for a tip because I took it off.

        • +1

If this guy earned a tip by going ABOVE and BEYOND his job description them I would 100% give him a sizeable tip

But if he skipped the tip screen like you wanted him to how would you have given him a tip?

(profanity) off back to the USA with your asking for tips bullshit.

I'm not from the USA, maybe you should go back to wherever taught you to be so impolite.

Also I own a restaurant and my terminals do NOT have a prompt asking for a tip because I took it off.

You can do what you like when you own a business.

That's great to know, I hope you don't have such an attitude with your customers.

That is if you have any because according to your Reddit account you're a mechanical engineer.

We pay through the roof for restaurants in Australia

Then please lower your restaurant prices and stop gouging customers. You're part of the problem you're complaining about.

  • +4

We went the other night. They added 10% to our already large bill for being a 'big' (10) table. Not going back.

    • That's common at many restaurants.

      • they add 10% to large groups?

        why?

        • +3

Large groups are harder than smaller gross.

Large groups may require an extra chef or server to be working to get everyone's food out at the same time.

Large groups generally also stay longer so the restaurant may miss out on a second sitting.

Jamie's won't let you book a table for 10 online and directs you to their group booking page. The fee would have been explained when the group booking was made.

      • Really? I've eaten with big groups plenty of times and that was a first.

        • +1

It's either a group surcharge, or they get you to eat a set menu

  • Unfortunately, the food from the Sydney restaurant is not that good. Salty or tasteless and even with the discount overpriced. Sorry Jamie.

  • Jamie has been milking Australia and you guys fell for it

    • thank god it collapsed and went into receivership

    • Can Jamie milk me?

  • Shame Jamie's restaurant brand is such a fail

  • They make you feel like a scumbag if you dont order at least 3 wines per person as that's where there profits are

  • jamie's in brisbane is pretty well below average.

it's only a matter of time before they become a food court buffet restaurant.

  • +1

Jamie is what Xiao Mi is to the culinary world

  • Are the pasta dishes considered "Main" meal??
