Me trying to save money in Sydney by eating the McSmart meal.

    • +3

      I smell two cheeseburgers

      • +1

        I smell some smells…

  • +33

This meal has existed for at least 7 months? So now they've decided to make it slightly worse and then suddenly re-market it. Used to be able to customise both items so could get 2 x chicken n cheese. Now has a forced cheeseburger.

    • +2

Yeh pretty lame deal compared to the previous, bring back the double chicken burgers!

    • +3

Yep, Big Beef is starting to show their hand and evicting out those of us who have come to depend on the prev McSmart option of 2 x Chicken and Cheese

    • +6

But we didn't have the sundae option before? Great update for the remainder of summer at least I reckon

      • +2

I'd forego the 10+tsps of sugar in the sundae but that's just me ;)

        • +11

So that's why they're so good! That's ok, I'll make sure to get the Coke Zero to balance it out

    • +2

ah well, that's all we can afford folks

    • +4

      Kind of McDumb

    • +1

      your colon loves forced cheeseburgers

      • +5

You're meant to put them in your mouth!

    • Looks like this was also done in America and they replaced with a worse deal too

    • +2

I'd argue this is better. Have the option for some nuggies now. Chicken n cheese is meh.

    • -2

But u upvoted? Sounds McDumb like all the ones upvoting here like they survive on fast food 😂

      • I still consider it a good deal.

Like I said elsewhere, you can pay $19.55 for a large squid game meal.

Or you can buy 3 x smart meals and get significantly more food.

        • +1

The smart money is on happy meals, costs nothing to swap out the water/juice for a small thick shake or fake coke. For a little bit more you can get a coffee up to $1.50 for a large.i usually grab a grilled chicken happy meal with a large cap… $7.45

The wraps are $4.65, large cap is $5.30, and I get a small chips on top.. sometimes they even give me a little toy, but often they see the coffee and leave it out or just ask me if I want it

    • Damn really they've made it worse aye?

I would pick the chicken n cheese x2 cause more calories

Legit just ordered that the other Friday like the 17th or something and a week ish later its gone??!

  • Do you get a toy?

    • +8

Does a flying pickle in the forced cheeseburger count?

      • +1

You should start a poll on who eats their pickles and who takes them out

        • Let's ask the audience.
Should I start a poll on who eats their pickles and who takes them out?

    • +5

Yeah man post that deal I wish you the best of luck.

    • +2

While you're 100% correct, a lot of single men who don't cook frequent OzBargain. I'll leave it there.

    • +9

Ignoring the sides, I am not convinced you can make two burgers at home for less than $7.

      • +3

Buy a kilo of chips for 3 ish bucks.
10 bucks or so for their 10 pack of beef patties
Loaf of bread for 2ish bucks.

No onions, pickles or sauce so far but,

15 for about 10 burgers and chips. So a buck fifty per burger and chips so far.

Throw in a 2 litre tub of ice cream for around 5 bucks, ignoring a plastic cup and overpriced sauces, let's again say 10ish serves there. Add 50 cents to your burger and chips, now 2 bucks total.

Go buy a bottle of maxi ice for 2 bucks, again, split it ten portions, now you've spent 2.20 for a burger, chips, sundae, and coke.

Except it's all with knock off items, doesn't include the cost of the cups and sauces/salts and condiments, let's just say all of those together if you got cheap cups and no name sauces works out to like 50 cents more. You're at 2.70 now for that.

So you get the no name shit version, you get a bread slice instead of a burger bun, shitty oven chips (unless you have a deep fryer but then oil is a cost too), (profanity) it, 3 bucks. Let's just say 3 bucks.

You can do it cheaper but it's much worse quality and will take you a good half hour for the shitty oven chips.

I don't like Maccas, they're my least favorite of all of them (KFC, HJ, RR for me), but unless you want to do all that effort AND eat ten of them, for the convenience alone, the 4 bucks markup is pretty palletable

        • +3

That's way too much food. I just want something small. Something…. Mcsmart.

        • +2

Nah. Their beef patties are under $1 per cheeseburger patty. It's 10 patties to one pound. - Ex mcd employee

    • +1

I’m here for a bargain first, then posts from uninsured drivers

    • +1

I'm all for healthy food and stuff, but life gets you sometimes and you just want a quick to go, especially ones that are good deals. Not like fast burgers for like $17

    • You know what's smarter than this meal?

Well it's not free, is it? You are choosing instead to waste hours of your life with additional cooking.

    • Home cooking is the real bargain and the healthy way always. No idea why you got negged heavily. The FAST FOOD restaurant won this round?

$7 can get a much healthier meal. This McSmart meal is also good in value but not healthy. McAI meal is coming?

  • +1

I've been buying it for the last year or so already, it ain't new, just hidden because it's incredible value compared to the rest of the shit McDonald's has

    • +6

Actually they have nerfed it, you could get 2x chicken and cheese, small fried and small drink, now you must get at least one cheeseburger

      • +1

2x chicken and cheese has been my meal since the last 10-12 months. Looks like I'm gonna get a cheeseburger from today.

        • Yeah before by default they had the cheeseburger selected but you could easy swap, but yeah rip they've cut the value a bit. It's still aight but rip the glory days

    • just hidden because it's incredible value compared to the rest of the shit McDonald's has

This is true, it was essentially hidden for months (no advertising, menu item hidden at the bottom of the "Beef" section in the app).

From what I last read, the $5 meal deal equivalent in McDonalds USA was doing well and I'm sure they were not in a position to cut it here either. ie. important strategically to keep customers coming in, after the significant price hikes in the last few years.

compared to the rest of the shit McDonald's has

You mean you don't want to spend $19.55 on a squid game meal for a $0.20 cookie?

That meal in particular is really funny. Buy 3 x smart meals instead and get so much more food.

      • Before games at Olympic Park I'd smash thru two mcsmart meals and that would be me for the night sorted

  • Thanks, this will be great for becoming even more rotund.

  • +1

dissapointed as im a big fan of the chicken n cheese, can only get 1 now

    • It's good to have variety 🤣

      • (profanity) dem beef lol

  • +2

anyone noticed how they massacred the 24 mcnuggets option too? now its only 20 mcnuggets that costs an extra 3$

    • My local maccas has 24 McNuggets for $13.95 while 20 McNuggets is $14.95 lol

      • my local has 24 for $11.95, and 20 is 15.35 (WA) - now the option to even choose the 24 is gone wtf

      • Damn, like a 17% price increase overnight.

    • weird I still see 24 nuggets, but increased to $13.95 (Kings Cross, Sydney). Always thought Maccas doesn't have local pricing and offerings, not a good development.
Also see 40 nuggets for 23.10, 20 for 14.20 (more expensive than 24)

      • McDonalds has had different prices at different stores for the same thing for at least a decade. 24 nuggets $11.95 SEQ, can order in app just checked.

        • $11.95 in and around Metro Victoria too.

  • Chicken & cheese can get stuffed. This is a great upgrade!

  • +1

    Good deal, can't be stacked

  • Mc0.5smart, can't get X2 chicken and cheese

  • They made the original deal worse… now you can't get two chicken n cheese.

  • +2

The promos at McDonalds have really gone downhill in the last six months are quite frankly rubbish.

I think McDonalds in Oz has taken the lead from US operations and are gouging people as much as possible. Its just way expensive now.

The other hand, KFC deals are good and value for money.

  • My local Macca must be dumb coz McSmart is not available there

  • -4

    Objectively shit deal

Can't get full of this at all and barely even a snack, especially since they shrunk everything (burgers are like 1 bite now before you could get 3 mouth fulls before it was finished)

Go support your local chicken, fish, kebab, yiros, Asian, Indian, etc takeaway places and stop handing money hand over fist to shitty junk food places that keep shrinking shit because they know they can get away with it.

"Oh my local place is expensive" OK… you know you live in capitalism, right? walk or drive around a little or even check the menu online before purchasing or going inside. Pay cash and if you're a regular you might even get some bonus stuff

Ozbargainers have really been getting sold over the last couple years and the collective mindset went from "you're losing out if you don't get this" to "THE BUSINESS HAS A SALE SIGN AND THE WOOLWORTHS HAS A YELLOW STICKER SAYING SPECIAL WE ALL MUST BUY IT IGNORE HOW THE PRICE HASNT CHANGED AND IT HAS SHRUNK"

FML it's just sad to see if anything

    • +1

You may find this to be more filling:

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/888429

    • I find it funny when people say that the meat in McDonalds burgers have shrunk, especially the Cheeseburger. They haven't. They have always been one tenth of a pound (45g). And guess what? The meat in the Quarter Pounder (before cooking) still weighs 1/4 of a pound (113g)

  • -1

They should pay people $6.95 to eat this junk.

    • i'll pay you $6.95 if you change your avatar!!!
