I'm planning to buy one tomorrow. Is it possible to claim the gift card while purchasing the phone? Making the deal down to $999 from $1199 ??

  • Im going to Vietnam on 7th January, is that soon enough to claim TRS?

    • 60 days is the cut off, so you are good

      • Today I found out you can file for an extension.

    • Remember to get your name or address on the receipt as it is needed for TRS for purchases over $1000

December patch has fixed most, if not all of the teething issues that were associated with the P3 at launch. Google basically gives us no reason to buy a phone at launch considering the discounts that followed so soon after + patch releases. I've had the Pixels since the first one in 2016. Honestly can't say that I would go back to any other Android experience. The stock feel is leagues ahead of TouchWiz even as it exists in 2018. The phones run like butter, so 100% no complaints here.

It's leagues ahead of your do nothing but the basics for sure. Also support is not on par. Even my wife complained going from iPhone, couldn't edit a video, let alone sign PDFs for work. Crazy in this day Google can make a smartphone so basic.

You know you can just go download all that for free? Not everyone needs those things glad they keep all the bloat off

        • Exactly, some call bloat, some call smartphone features. I can download crappy third party apps with ads and poor integration with any of Google's apps. Also they don't look like any of Google's apps. It's like a frankenphone

@onlinepred: Maybe stick with an iPhone, Android doesn't sound like it's for you lol

            • @jno: Yep after 3 years of trying and dealing with pixels I sold my p3xl and have gone back to my ip7plus and S9+ for now. Will wait S10 or foldable phone. Need a phone capable of basic smartphone tasks.

Jamming in excess functionality (like the examples you have mentioned), is precisely why I wouldn't touch TouchWiz anytime soon. It's also the exact reason why apps exist in the first place, i.e. a conscious decision not to bloat the OS with functionality that arguably most users wouldn't need. I'm sure there are some odd exceptions, but most cases would follow this simple question - would a typical user need this feature? No? Don't ship it. Simple.

        • Exactly most users don't need smartphone functionality, they can get by with a basic phone. Why pay so much for such a basic phone though? I'd prefer to have features available rather than not have the option. I mean iOS has more features than pixel.

          • @onlinepred: Again, the option is definitely still there (there's a little thing called the Google Play Store). If you like iOS more, go for it!

            • @pathacks: If you actually think an app from the Google Play store can rewrite the whole operating system and how it works, you will make most severely disappointed. The reality of it is that you have a mish mash of apps that do not offer great integration nor even try to copy the current material 2.0 designs. I prefer android, but can't deal with the super basic nature of Pixel and the complete lack of customisations available. If I buy android it's because I want more features than iOS for less money, not less features for almost the same. Seems crazy to me.

  • Was waiting for the xperia xz3 prices to drop. Not sure if the Pixel is the better option.

I have a $200 gift card from work. So essentially I could get the 64gb pixel 3 for $800.

    Tempting!

Why is a Google phone now so expensive? It used to be budget then flagship now its practically an Apple

Gotta appreciate OzBargain's response every time anything that isn't cheap, low-quality crap is submitted, it's as if we're all meant to live our live's with the bare minimum.

  • Has anyone had any luck getting Harvey Norman to match this deal?

    • Good question, would be great with a few Amex cards

    • I did ask through online via live chat last night. They said the bonus gift cards are exclusions.
      So……..

  • If you return the item will JB make you return the gift card too?

  • I've had the Pixel 3 128GB since Black Friday (got it for $1100 with eBay 20% off) and it is fantastic.

I am struck by how responsive the Pixel 3 is. I read a lot of reviews complaining about 4GB RAM but honestly you wouldn't know by using it.

I especially like how much better a lot of features and apps work with stock Android. On my Samsung, there were a lot of fiddly little things that didn't quite work as they should. You could live with it, but on the Pixel 3, everything just works.

Also I'm loving getting an Android update every month instead of waiting for six months for Samsung to test and test.

I agree it is pricey but they've been discounting fairly heavily already. Also the Lite version is coming out next year so that should fill the gap for a Nexus type device.
