    • lol, its all in the perspective i guess :D

    • +2

      I could buy a pack of 20 lightscribe DVD's for $4.

Then I could print my own coaster designs and have a set of 20 designed coasters.

      • I know, I'm just as pissed off as you are, but I thought I'd take the piss out of COTD by using reverse sarcasm.

  • I'm glad I didnt grab this one either (along with the fake bottle)

    • same here

didn't get any of those deals!

  • Haven't received mine, but I'll be returning it out of principle too. I don't want or need a stupid Internet Security Suite 2010 OEM. Let's just add it to the list of bad experiences I've had with COTD, I just don't seem to learn!

    • +10

i think they are waiting for others to send them back and then repost them to us !

  • Yep, it's a dodgy internet security suite…a family member got a couple, they're pissed about it too…can you say refund time! :p

  • +1

Obligatory post before negative voting this deal, changing from Positive to Negative. $30 my ass.

  • +1

I've sent through an email asking COTD to cancel my order and refund my money. No reply as yet… I assume they're bombarded with a lot of similar emails. Definitely not impressed with how these guys operate from this experience.

    • +2

I've never been too impressed with how they operate from any experience with them! :p

      • +1

This is my first order with them so I guess I can say the same - lo

  • +5

From now on I am boycotting COTD. I don't know why I haven't learnt from previous experiences - this is annoyance number 4 with them.

    1) Receiving substituted item- I did not want the substitute, I wanted the item advertised. No reply to emails regarding this, ended up giving up and keeping the item.

    2) DOA item - sent back reply paid, amount refunded. Fine, only slightly annoying. Would not bother me if I had no other negative experiences, as this could happen with any retailer and I wouldn't blame them. It was annoying that COTD requested that I pay to use registered post as they "don't take responsibility" for lost items.

    3) Receiving substituted item - happened again and this time I was really annoyed. This time I got a reply, assuring me that the "warehouse guys" had assured the man emailing me that this item was comparable, if not BETTER than the item advertised. Clearly it was not, and I wanted what I had paid for. Sent back for a refund, as none of advertised item in stock (and COTD continued to advertise the out of stock item for a few days after that in their catchathon)

    4) Useless mystery item, with misleading and deceptive rrp attached.

This should be added to the few times I tried to log on and order during their pressure cooker sales and similar, wasted my time and got nothing (now I ignore these sales).

  • Has anyone received theirs yet?

    • +2

Nope but I have already requested refund as per the earlier posts.

Time to take COTD to Fair Trading :D

    • No here too, but I feel more exciting to see what "RRP $30" items they send me. :P

    • Not yet. Hoping from the early complaints they got that they may send me something other than internet security software or a mouse mat. Maybe something actually worth $30 like $30 worth of stamps or a $30 iTunes card ;-)

      • +5

Sorry to say dude, you've got no hope!

Looking at the cheap crappy IS suite my family got sent, it looks like they've bought zillions of the bloody things that nobody wants & they're so flat they're almost two-dimensional, so they knew shipping would be negligible!

COTD is simply hoping to make four bucks off those ppl too lazy to send them back purely on principle!

Frankly, I'm with lisss; every COTD post now gets an automatic neg from me, due to their sketchy business practices they simply can't be trusted!

        • +4

          Yes, I know I'm just daydreaming ;-)

  • +3

Looks like OzBargainers got F'ed in the A by Catch of the Day :S

    • I'm still yet to receive my copies, I purchased 2 as well. Have people been sending them back by regular post or is the return even more hassle? I'll definitely be sending these back. I neither want/need IS or tacky coasters!

    • Some people might think that's a better offer than the software! lol :-)

  • +1

I have an approved "return" request, but I haven't received the item. :/

    • good idea

    • same lol

  • +2

I am really considering filing a complaint with the ACCC against COTD. They've taken my money, I haven't got the product or confirmation if the product has been canceled. Sick of this waiting.

    • have not received mine in WA want to get it so i can send it back before
      i go on holidays

    • Do it. to make it worse we got overcharged on postage too AND it took a month to receive.

  • +3

My order is the same as most, still on order received and no updates from then.

We should get ACA and Today Tonight to do a story on their shit customer service instead of bragging about being number 1 online store thanks to their Crash Of The Day sale baits.

    • +2

We'd have to do a deal with ACA/TT the way all the other ads, er, product segments get screen time or be owned by the same people like Nine and Cudo (with no disclosure during segments unlike most responsible newspaper articles).

Off topic, what's the cheapest box of cornflakes to get a journalist (commercial network) degree from these days? ;-)

      • I believe that would be the Aldi University, Bachelor of Biased Journalism generic cornflake degree, with a major in Cash for Comment!

They don't just give them away though, you've gotta line up at the checkout for that cereal box!!! :)

  • I placed my order on 31 March, but I haven't received anything from COTD.
Their system said my order was dispatched a few days ago, but Auspost never took more than two days for same city delivery.

I will give them two more days before file a compain to victoria fair trading and file a charge back dispute to my cc provider.

  • +1

Based on reputation of COTD and Scoopon, we should ignore all of their offers.

  • My father in-law got 3 of them (lucky him).

On the box it says "OEM Edition (Not for individual retail sale)".
Isn't this illegal - or is COTD somehow not a retailer - don't think so.

    • Yeah, I got 3 myself as well (and I'm not your father in law BTW). Came in the mail this morning.

I was thinking about that Not For Individual Retail Sale thingo as well… I guess if you buy two or more, it's not individual.

Gonna return it to COTD through their return tool. There's no option for full refund… it's only 'exchange' or 'store credit'. Neither of those satisfy a money back guarantee as per advert above. We'll see how this pans out. Anyone manage to get a full refund instead of store credit?

      • Well mine still hasn't arrived (in ACT) but they had better give me my money back, otherwise that's completely false advertising and I will be annoyed enought to make an ACCC complaint.

  • Still haven't received anything either (WA), just checked via Track my order and says was only dispatched on 11/4. Almost 2 weeks just to dispatch an item is pretty poor.

To be fair to COTD, I had a non-received item from them before (small value, the mentos for $2.99 i think) and they were quick to refund without any hassles.

Given this is similar (small or should we say no value item), I would expect the same service this time around.

    • +1

I didnt buy this mystery item, but I bought a logitech webcam and mouse from the promotion that was a day or two earlier. The webcam I received within a week, the mouse I received a few days ago . The mouse was DOA (dead-on-arrival) so I emailed them through their return system and contact system. Within a day, I got a reply, saying they've already organised a replacement and gave me a tracking number (which shows up on AuPost), stating no need to return faulty item too.

So far, overall, Im pretty happy with the customer service.
Interesting how the customer service can vary.

      • Good to hear. It seems they may have picked up their game somewhat with regard to returns!

I was filthy with them last year, I ordered something as a gift 6 weeks before Xmas, 1st unit turned up after nearly 3 weeks smashed (outer packaging undamaged, BTW?), 3 days to get an RMA#, another fortnight to get replacement, 2nd unit also arrived faulty (missing parts obvious without even opening pack)…at this point I just gave up & took the store credit as it was a fairly cheap item & I wasn't so pissed with them at that stage!

I learned my lesson from the last 'mystery' box of damaged or useless junk & dirty well out of date (2005) water-stained IT books! I couldn't be bothered taking photos of the crap as they requested, I just politely informed them I would never again be a COTD customer! ;)

  • haven't received anything either, i'm in SYDNEY for gods sakes. AND i don't want it. do you have to send it back?

  • Sucks! I got mine two CA Internet Security Suite 2010 in this morning. Sydney area.
I am a Mac user and the only PC I have is using windows98. Well…Not support at all.

  • +2

    Have requested a return…utter crap

  • +2

My family member that took part in this fiasco got an email from COTD today saying that they would be getting a total refund with no expectation of return of the dodgy product! ;)

I loved one of the reviews of CA internet security…the guy said it resembled a "Frankenstein's monster patched together from a collection of mediocre security tools"…comedy gold! :)

    • I forgot to mention the funniest part…those family members offered to give them to me…HAHAHAHAHA! :p

  • crap! finally i can -ve :)

    • +2

It's COTD dude, you could've put the boot in anytime & nobody would bat an eyelid! It was never a matter of if they were gonna shaft ppl…that was never in doubt…it was just a matter of how badly! :p

  • -1

hahaha did the mods reverse all votes so we could neg?

  • so bad.
    Haven't even got it yet.

"this mystery item is a ripper."
"The value is so good that we just want to surprise you -"
    'it’s worth $30'

  • +2

Hopefully the postie has stolen my yet-to-be-received coaster but if they want to give me a refund in store credit then it should be for $30! (Think of how many mystery items I can get next time! lol)

They would have been better off adding these to people's regular orders as a unexpected "gift". It might have been appreciated more.

  • +3

This is the message I received from COTD. We'll see how long it will take before I see the credit come through.

"We're incredibly sorry to hear that you're not completely satisfied with this Mystery Item! We do understand that in
some cases it may not be of use to you, and as such we're more than happy to honour our advertised Money Back
    Guarantee.

In good faith, we've processed a refund of the purchase price to your account - though we will not be requesting for
the item to be returned, you can do what you like with it.

Please allow 2-3 business days for the refund to appear on your statement."

    Though, according to this website:

    http://internet-security-suite-review.toptenreviews.com/ca-r…

"CA’s internet security software includes a guarantee of protection from viruses and identity theft, with up to $10,000 remediation."

Anyone wanna hack my $200 netbook so I can claim $10,000? - lol

    • I receive the same email, haven't received the item yet but emailed them saying i don't want or need that security software…I have my own thankyouverymuch.

that's my first & probably last dealing with cotd, wow they know how to keep customers

I reported this sale of OEM items by COTD to the CA Australia Company. I suggest you guys do the same.

CA are probably happy any retailer bought them from them! ;-)

    • +1

My company are closely affiliated with CA and if what I've heard is correct there are already some legal papers being written up.

  • +3

After 17 days of waiting, I got a crappy internet security.
    Bastards!

    • +1

Really? mine still hasnt arrived. I'll be using it as a frisbee.

  • No COTD logo, invoice or anything identifying where it was from or why I was receiving it, and a random product I have never heard of. Almost threw it straight into the bin.

Thought it was some kind of scam, for users stupid enough to put a random disc into their PC.

    Asked for a refund.

    • An envelope turned up in the mail, opened it and thought it was some rubbish. No markings from COTD.

      Extremely disappointed.

Have requested a RA but as everyone has found there's no full refund option - which was not mentioned in the original sale page. Very deceitful. 20% restocking fee as well.

It's not about the $4 it's about been cheated and sent rubbish. $30 my ass!

      • Just contact them, I'm sure they'll honour the refund.

  • still haven't received mine, will request refund for sure.
what a misleading description from COTD.

First time I have to neg a deal.
    Sorry OP, nothing against you

They're trying to sell these CA Internet Security Plus 2010 OEM for $2.95 PLUS $5.95 shipping to NSW.

    http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfish_info.php?products_…

    • +1

ITS NOW $9.95 PLUS $5.95. LOL

      • BARGAIN! I heard that it was worth $30, so it's still half price!

  • +5

Late last week I received a suss envelope in the mail with no markings identifying the sender other than a generic return address.

Opened it up and there is a dodgy disc with supposed "Security Software" contained within. I have no idea where it came from and there's no way in hell I'm putting it on my computer. Straight in the bin as mail spam.

Come to this page today wondering if anyone had received their mystery item yet, as I still had not received mine. Little did I know that that dodgy POS disc I threw away was my item?

Seriously COTD? You going to sell "Get online with AOL" discs next? Never again

edit - can't even revoke my + vote dammit!

  • LOL, look what i found….someone trying to off sell their copies of the software: http://www.lottos.com.au/forum/viewthreadlite.php?tid=245827

    WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Got a dodgy envelope last night with some security software in it. Thought at first it was due to the Dell leak in personal details and this was some scam. Told my old man about the scam and he said he'll inform it to all his mates as well.

Checked my paypal account today morning just casually and got reminded that I got deducted $4 and tried to think if I got any mail. Came back to this thread and here it is, fucking hell. They are not only banned anymore from my buying list but also I will shoot the next person who shops in that place.

    WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

  • I have sent 2 emails foir COTD asking for a refund 2 days ago and didn't hear back from them till now.

    • I also sent a RMA and have yet to hear back from them, did they approve your refund bashar?

      • not yet.

        • I just received an email saying they approved my "refund" (back to account) and I can keep the crappy software

Now I bummed cause I have to buy more crap from them to get my money "back"

    • I got the same Refund Email just now.

  • I just received this:
    Hi,
    Thanks for your enquiry,

"refund to appear on your statement" - is that bank statement or their online account statement ie store credit?

    • when did you request that?

      • Yesterday.

  • received same email.

    Hi,

    Kind regards,

  • Those who have received the reply email, just wondering how did you request a refund?
Through the RMA system and selected a store credit or via email?

    • Yeah through the RMA system, but I said I do not want store credit I want my money back.

  • I GOT MY REFUND!

Yes, it's a full refund (back onto my credit card in this case).

However, when I submitted the refund request through the RMA system, I did specify that I wanted the cash and not store credit (I chose 'store credit' as oppose to 'exchange' from the two options provided). They didn't keep 20% as stated in the system.

And yes, the envelope it came in was dodgy.

Good luck to all with getting their refund.

  • Haven't received anything yet (no package or email update since purchase 31/3) so decided to check status. Log on and it simply says "DISPATCHED". Look up helpcenter to track order and it gives me some more info:

Order xxxxxxx was dispatched on the 11th of Apr 2011.
From the date of dispatch, delivery can take up to 9 business days.

When we print the label for your order, your order's status is updated to DISPATCHED, and at that point it goes to the warehouse for shipping. We are currently unable to track parcels between the point we print the label, and the time the courier makes the first scan at one of their depots.

As yet, we have no tracking details associated with this order.
Please advise us if you are still unable to track your parcel by the 28th of Apr 2011.

Are they sending it via a granny in a wheelchair going uphill? lol

    Refund! woohooo

  • Can you believe they are selling the CA Security software today in their catchathon for $10?

  • Mine finally arrived today. Refund requested.

    • Same. 1 copy of CA Security. Also requested refund.

  • +1

They are selling this on their site today for $9.95 + shipping

  • Got my refund :D

    • yep, refund also received. I can't complain about customer service, quick resolution.

  • Got mine yesterday and my wife put in on the table.
I asked where did she get the disc from and she said that we got it in the mail. I was wondering if I applied for a free Anti Virus here since it has been a long time for this mystery crap and completely forgot about it.

My issue now is that I opened the sticker and threw it in the bin. I had access to the serial number so I don't think I can refund it (and won't try since I opened it).

I was just browing the internet and remembered my mystery item. just went and checked and found out that it was dispatched. It was then that I realised it was the actual mystery item.

I have to say that a few years back I bought the mystery item and I think it was 10 or 15 and I did get some useful USB gadgets which I as happy about. This is definitely a rip off and they should have called it MISTERY ANTI VIRUS rather than do that.

    Bad COTD,really bad trick

    • Just RMA it. They don't want them back anyway, so you'll still get your refund.

As they say in the return email:

"we will not be requesting for the item to be returned, you can do what you like with it."

That includes throwing it in the bin ;)

  • wow.. I can't say I'm happy with my item either, and will be requesting a refund.. mine too says OEM not for individual sale.. whos idea was it to sell this?! awesome!..

  • +1

Incredibly deceptive for them to not include an invoice or any marking indicating this was my "mystery item" Lucky for me I guessed they'd play some kind of scam like this and checked ozbargain :D

    • Incredibly deceptive for them to not include an invoice or any marking indicating this was my "mystery item"
