I've been looking for a backup/replacement ultrabook and I've spent hours in Best Buy testing every model. I've got a 2015 HP Spectre (that I paid $1600 for) and I never imagined finding anything better. But the Ryzen Huawei Matebook absolutely wipes the floor with everything that's on the market. Here are a few reasons why:

        • I think Best Buy has an exclusive retailer contract for a couple of months.

  • Thanks OP! was hunting for a decent laptop.

  • the ssd isnt NVE something like the yoga deals, right?

    • From what I can see, it is an NVMe drive. Pretty solid speeds

  • for sydney NSW 2000 - all in AUD

    No Touchscreen?

    • +1

It's right there on the Amazon page. Yes.

      • BOOTIFUL

    • 1920x1080 Full High Definition (FHD) 16:9 wide touch display

  • Presumably this will come with a US plug?

Thinking this might be good for the parents.. anyone used a Huawei laptop before?

    • +5

it has Type C input charger. Just buy a AUS 65watt USB C-PD charger. Very simple

      • Well, that seems a bit expensive, if you are buying it just for that, when you can buy an adapter for a few bucks.

Trump says, ditch Huawei. Amazon says Mate-book.

  • Any idea if this has 2nd storage compartment like e845?

  • Thanks OP. Wife's Birthday gift sorted!

  • I would still go for this if I could do without a backlit keyboard: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/414321

10% (Cashrewards) and 12% cashback (Shopback) on Lenovo at present, btw.

    • should be noted no touch display either.

What's the warranty situation with this?

I’d be very wary about this company’s ethics. Do your research before you subscribe to this product.

    • Same as google spying us even on airplane mode.

      • Not just privacy, also actively supporting particular regimes, just saying buyer beware.

      • Except Google is doing it mostly to aggregate data for advertisers and to improve algorithms. Shady but what you'd expect of a for-profit company. They make no secret of it.

China's surveillance is about corporate espionage, technology theft, and collecting information on dissidents. If you work for a company where the technology could be easily stolen and replicated in China, then it's worthwhile being wary about using a laptop from a PLA-linked company that the security agencies have warned is engaging in surveillance. Certainly don't VPN in to work from it.

  • Sorry guys, dumb question, but there is no way this is VR ready is there? I am not a gamer in the slightest, but I did have a play with a mate's VR setup and I thought it was so cool, so just wondering if this little notebook might be capable?
