  • You forgot to add the code to the deal, OP.

    • I couldn't add it for some reason it said code already used/posted. edit: done :)

Need a device for my kid for school. We are a Mac family but it needs to run win 10. Is this the best bang for buck or a surface go from other deal? I’m out of the windows loop. Thanks for any help

    • If you want your kids to play fortnight then this laptop is for you.

        Don’t want 😭

        • It's hella good value. Nice iGPU if you want a bit of gaming performance, but even disregarding that I believe ryzen CPUs are only slightly worse performers than intel equivalents. This deal's in the i3 range (if I have pricing right), dispite being an i5 rival.

Jibberish aside, I'm pretty sure it's light, somewhat sturdy and great insides. Good value.

Edit - Actually, someone further down brings up a good point. I've heard Newegg's an absolute pain to deal with.

    • I’m shopping for a laptop for my kid as well.

I’ve noticed that at $7-800 range you’ll find something with more than enough specs to suit their needs.

I’m looking for something that needs to be a bit durable and will last 6 years of high school.

The only downside to the Surface Go is that it’s not very repairable.

      https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Microsoft+Surface+Go+Teardow…

My kid drops stuff. They’ll cover it with stickers. Shove it into their bag with textbooks. Eat and drink all over it. So I’m looking for something that is sturdy and able to be fixed.

It won’t look good but hopefully it’ll last.

      • ‘The only downside’ seems with microsoft backing it warranty wouldn’t be much of a problem?

      • $700 - $800 range. Have you considered the Lenovo ThinkPad e485? Should still be $750~ plus cashback.

    • Personally I try to avoid buy computer outside Australia especially if you not computer geek as the warranty claim can be a hassle.
If your budget within $700-$800 I would recommended Dell Latitude 5285 like this one (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Latitude-5285-2in1-8GB-Memo…).
Get the one with keyboard for $749 deduct ebay 10% site wide discount it will bring down to $674.10.
It also comes with Dell warranty up to July 25, 2019 and lighter around 1.25kg compare to this deal laptop 2kg.

    1. This will only play Fortnite at 40 FPS at best @ 720p, so not ideal to play unless you drop the res to 480p (Yuk)
    2. This is the 15.6 inch model not the 13.3 inch one, so bigger and heavier for the kids to lug around.
    • +1
      1. it can do 540p lowest setting at 60 fps as seen here https://youtu.be/HwObtlHEwbs unlike Intel Core i5-8250U which can only do 360p lowest at 60 fps.
      2. There is the 13 inch model available that cost more. Granted not ideal.
    • If kid's a console gamer

Afaik the AMD CPUs are a bit power hungry, so battery life won't be that great. Wouldn't recommend it for school use.

    • No idea how comparable it is, but my e485 has never even come close to dying at school.

Odds are they'll only be doing light tasks. And with that the laptop lasted me almost 8 hours.

  • I am looking for a laptop in this range too. Found lenovo yoga 530 14” with Pentium dual core about $690, would worth to pay extra $300 for i5 core?

    Thanks.
