Best laptop deal I have seen on here for ages. Only issue is the short warranty.

  • Hi mate,

I am considering to buy a X1 carbon Gen 5.
    - In the point of view of durability, how does Lenovo Yoga compare to X1 Carbon?
    - What is difference between Yoga 910 and Yoga 920. GraysOnline is selling Yoga920 as well.

    Thank you.

Coincidentally I have both the Yoga 920 and the X1 Carbon Gen 6. If you can get over the fact that the X1 Carbon is more functional and only what you might call handsome rather than beautiful then it's the X1 Carbon all the way for me. It's easy to move around as it's lighter, the battery lasts longer, it still has the same great specs and you can get the 4k screen. Plus the keyboard is better. The only annoying thing is that they swapped the ctrl and fn keys around but you can swap them in the bops.

      • Thanks mate.

What do you mean in " X1 Carbon is more functional"?

        • +2

It's easier to work with as it's lighter, has a smaller footprint, and is easier to use because of things like the better keyboard, being easier to open and shut the lid, and being easier to pick off a desk. It just doesn't look as good but after a while that doesn't matter.

One thing I forgot to also say is that it has issues with power drainage while asleep so you need to switch off the always on usb.

          • @C0mbat: It's great to hear about X1 Carbon from your own experience. Thank you for sharing.
What do you think about Yoga 920?

At the moment, Yoga 920 is much cheaper with 8xx bucks (refurbished though) comparing to more than 15xx for X1 Carbon. I prefer X1 Carbon, but if Yoga 920 is also durable (which can serve me in 3-4 years), I will go for Yoga 920.

@badinh: I'm not too keen on the Yoga 920. I also hated the HP Spectre X360. I had a Dell XPS 13 prior to that and think that is the best stylish laptop out of the 3 as it's footprint is smaller and it's easier to deal with. However if I was going to buy a stylish laptop it would probably be the new Huawei Matebook X Pro from the Windows store but it's more expensive. You may be able to get a good discount on the XPS 13 with a 20% off ebay discount code at the Dell eBay store.

  • Tempted. Only thing holding me back is the dual core i7

Dual core i7 shouldn't really hold you back.
The 8th Gen cores are much better yes, but i7-7500U is still more than capable.

What would hold me back is it being a GraysOnline refurb.
Issues with support and warranty if anything goes wrong (which it seems to). Battery will probably be quite depleted and the 4K screen won't help.
      I've commented my experience here

      • I second everything you said.

      • I guess paypal still provides some sort of protection for a while?

        • Probably not - GraysOnline could easily prove that they sent it and state their process but I'm not sure if it would go any further.

  • Funny story about Grays online.
I bought a faulty yoga 900 almost 3 years ago now for 1/3 retail. When I opened it up to find out why it wasn't working there was just a single cable that hadn't been plugged in to connect the board to the ports.
