Might be worth adding those details to the main post to make it easier for others :)
Hey mate, correct link please. This is not linked to the deal !
Check above please
Listing and some of the pictures show “Rugged” USB powered portable drive. Drop down menu and other pictures show “Desktop” AC adaptor powered model.
How are you supposed to know which it is?
OP updated with what options you need to look for.
Great, thanks!
You've got to be joking. The OP clearly said:

Porsche design desktop drive
USB 3.0

Isn't this clear enough?
OP edited his post shortly afterwards…
Righto. I take it back then.
@[Deactivated]: Handy tip, have a look a the "revisions" tab up the top to see the revision history. Some posters are sneaky that they update it in stealth, trying to covertly get people such as yourself up in arms about something and then look a wee bit silly in the process of doing so!
If you check the post revisions, you’ll see that the OP added these instructions after posting.
So no, when it was posted it wasn’t clear enough, no need to be such a ****
Ok guys, my fault. Let's leave it at that.
no need to be such a ****
Exactly
@[Deactivated]: **** means “nice helpful person” doesn’t it?
Sorry I may have missed something.. Is this usb powered or do you need a power cable?
Nice Iinterface haha
Any deals on the 8TB 3.5" variant?
8tb ~ $250, have you seen better?
$244 inc delivery is the best price so far https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LaCie-Porsche-Design-1TB-2TB-4TB… Was $236 last time though - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/411236
Cheaper still (if you're a prime member) is to buy from Amazon here for $225 https://www.amazon.com.au/Seagate-Expansion-Desktop-External… Also with 8% cashback, it brings the total down to $207!
Only $245 for the WD Elements My Book 8TB and it has a white label red inside. I'm not the sort of person who thinks WD is better than Seagate, but WD RED drives are very good and reliable, I currently have 10 and yet to have a drive failure. 8 are white label Reds from my books, and 2 are Red label Reds from a My Book Duo from Amazon US before the GST.
For smaller capacities though (such as 2TB), Seagate is better than WD since they're shuckable and not hardware encrypted (much better chance of drive recovery in case of failure), for higher capacity usually worth spending the extra for a WD red inside, for actual barebones drives, Seagate and WD are both good, but I go WD since I shuck drives and save $100 each.
@NobalaKoba: Thanks for the info Bradley. I too would prefer to 'shuck' white label red drives if possible. That being said though, I've found that unless your buying enterprise hard-drives, all the consumer drives (WD, Seagate, Toshiba, etc) are rubbish.
@NobalaKoba: how can you not agree that wd is more reliable than seagate, im going to have a hard time taking the rest of your post seriously now
@desync: seagate ironwolf's are much more reliable than western digital red's. Cheaper too, it's just that they're noisy and hot.
ironwolf 8tb 1% failure rate, compare that to WD red 4tb 2% failure, and WD red 6tb 4% failure.
@bobvegas: Yep, it's a shame people don't refer to backblaze or other reputable sources and just assume Seagate is bad. I use WD because for me, shocking WD drives has proven to get a Red drive 100% of the time and is cheaper than buying Seagate Ironwolf's. If they were cheaper and noise wasn't a factor, I'd definitely be looking at them instead.
It's also worth noting that the Seagate Ironwolf's are 7200RPM vs 5400RPM on the Reds, which results in noticeable faster speeds.
@desync: Because I make statements based on facts with real figures rather than "My mate had a Seagate drive fail but he hasn't had a WD fail so all Seagate's have a higher failure rate based on my sample size of one."
@NobalaKoba: hmmm i wouldn't be banking those stats, ironic that you talk about sample sizes yet fail to see the obvious flaws in that source, there could be any number of reasons for a high failure rate these people experienced outside of the general reliability of the drive, are you basing your opinion on this single source?
the stats may very well be valid and WD have taking a back seat in some of the recent generation of drives but this source isn't very credibe for obvious reasons, wouldn't you agree?
@desync: I agree that using one source isn't a good idea. They are a credible source though, Backblaze is THE best source for those sorts of statistics. It's not perfect but it's the best there is.
Do you have another more reliable source stating that the lifespan of Seagate drives is significantly shorter than WD drives? If so, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it if you'd be willing to share it with us.
niceeeeeee
There was only 1 in stock?
Let me sort it out with rep.
Edit - technical issue. Back in stock
Does it include USB C cable?
Its USB3 only as per OP
Shuckable?
Everything is shuckable if you know how to shuck :D
Some of these external drives have the SATA headers removed and can only connect via USB, even when shucked.
Yep from memory it’s the WD portables that aren’t shuckable
The 8tb one is shuckable. The drive inside is an archive drive so low performance.
Yeah and I heard they are all cheap Seagate barracudas… maybe Seagate now owns Lacie
What brand was it?
It was a Seagate Barracuda Compute ST800DM004 SMR drive.
Almost pulled the trigger than noticed its the 3.5" form factor
Great price none the less.
How small is the latest model?
Hi Thanks, Only 4TB available…I don't see 6TB
