Cheaper Netflix Via VPN for Existing / New Subscribers (E.G Basic $4.07, Standard $7.11, Ultra $10.16 Per Month W/ No Fee Card)

9530

Greetings everyone, I was trying to figure out a cheaper way to get Netflix easily (rather than use iTunes billing and other avenues) and I found this thread over at MyDealz, I thought it was worthwhile to share it.

You can get Netflix for significantly cheaper by signing up / renewing via a quick VPN trick. I only just updated my plan 30 minutes ago, and signed up for the Ultra plan (UHD, 4 Devices) via Argentina and got charged 229 Argentinian Pesos which equated to be $8.99 for the month via my no fee card.

This works out to be approximately 50% of the pricing of Australian Netflix (Basic $9.99, Standard $13.99, Ultra $17.99).

Neil also completed a great write up a few years ago about this, check that out for further reference to assist with getting the deal.

Some examples of the pricing can be found here (I have highlighted the cheapest for each package in bold:)

Turkey:

  • Basic: 15.99 TRY (Equates currently to ~$4.06 AUD Per Month)
  • Standard: 27.99 TRY (Equates currently to ~$7.11 AUD Per Month)
  • Ultra: 39.99 TRY (Equates currently to ~$10.16 AUD Per Month)

Argentina:

  • Basic: 129 ARS (Equates currently to ~$4.97 AUD Per Month) Now 149 ARS
  • Standard: 169 ARS (Equates currently to ~$6.51 AUD Per Month) Now 219 ARS
  • Ultra: 229 ARS (Equates currently to ~$8.82 AUD Per Month) Now 299 ARS

Argentina has now been updated to a new pricing structure. Turkey is now the cheapest.

Hits has kindly made a spreadsheet with the current pricing in AUD from the cheapest countries.

If you have access to a VPN, it is an extremely easy process:

For New Subscribers:

  1. Connect to a VPN that has the cheapest pricing for the package you require per the spreadsheet above.
  2. Go to Netflix and enter your details to sign up to a new account.
  3. Go through and select the package that you would like, make sure the prices are in the desired currency per the VPN.
  4. Continue through and sign-up, your billing will now be in the currency per the VPN.
  5. Turn off the VPN and your account will be Australian, but will bill in the cheaper currency.

For Existing Subscribers:

  1. Go to Your Account and Cancel your subscription. It will expire at the end of the billing period.
  2. When the billing expires, Connect to a VPN of your choice, login and click reactivate your subscription.
  3. Go through and select the package that you would like, make sure the prices are in the desired currency per the VPN.
  4. Continue through and complete the reactivation, your billing will now be in the currency per the VPN.
  5. Turn off the VPN and your account will be Australian, but will bill in the cheaper currency.

Your account will only have titles from a different country if you are connected via VPN. With this method, It will charge in the foreign currency, but your account will have Australia titles :)

It is worthwhile to continue to check which country is the cheapest each month to get the best price :)

There's heaps of VPN deals around if you don't have access to a VPN yet, I used Windscribe for reference and connected to Argentina with ease.

I really hope this helps people out, it's definitely helped me out :)

All credit must go to Luca Lutz @ MyDealz for the help.

As always, enjoy!

    • I cancelled my weekly Turkey subscription then waited until it expired. I've just hit the renew membership button and it defaulted to the weekly plan. I logged out, then back in again and I now got the monthly plan at 28TRY.

  • Connected using Getflix VPN (Turkey), created a new account but it doesn't take my card (tried Citibank and American Express). I got the following message:

There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use.

    Did I miss anything?

    • Same for me with 3 differents card

    • Yeah, tried several times and didn't work for me. I gave up and torrents FTW. ;)

    • Ok I got it now … although without the free month. I have an old account that has expired months ago (about 6 - 10 months ago).

      • Connect through Getflix VPN (Turkey)
      • Login to my old account
      • Restart my membership, says that my payment information is invalid so I need to enter new one
      • Use Citibank credit card (with fee)
      • Done

The downside for me is that I don't get the free month that new account enjoys and also I have about 20 days overlap with my currently active account (which I have cancelled). But well … I was thinking to try this after my current account expired but who knows this can still be done after that.

Hope that helps those who want to sign up with Turkey's pricing.

  • Had to wait patiently for 30 days as my Netflix billing is 7th, so my plan was already renewed when this post came out on the 8th.
Cancelled existing iTunes renewal immediately, let the plan expire
    Deleted Netflix App
Installed Hotspot VPN - 14-day trial, no CC, renews with iTunes - easy to cancel the renewal on Itunes
    Selected Turkey
    Google Chrome - incognito mode
Bankwest Plat Card - no international transx fee
    Worked like a charm first attempt - monthly 27.99TL = $7.22 AUD - winning!
    Thanks, OP

  • Waiting for someone to say it worked with ING..

    • I just tried it with PIA, Connected to Turkey and used ING savings card. Worked fine !

      • Hi Ak333
I used PIA as well but I tried so many times and I never be able to connect to Turkey. Can I ask what setting you have
        ?

  • +1

Worked on an existing account after cancelling membership.
    1. Installed HotSpot Shield VPN on Android, signed up to the free trial.
    2. Connected to the Turkey VPN server.
    3. Open Chrome Incognito and went to Netflix
    4. Logged in and restarted my membership. (27.99 TRY/month)
    5. Changed billing method to 28 Degrees.
    6. Successful on first attempt.

    Thanks OP!

    • Thanks for that, I was trying for legit an hour on NordVPN, was unsuccessful and didn't know why. I suppose bigger VPN have their ip blocked by netflix making it harder to do this.

      • +1

Yeah doesn't work with Nord. I too tried for a good hour then used HotSpot Shield.

        • +1

Don't forget to cancel the HotSpot shield trial.

          • +1

@onlyme: Cancelled before I even signed up for Netflix :p

  • Just received an email…

Your monthly price is increasing to ARS299 on Wednesday, 9 January 2019. Why? Because we’re hard at work improving Netflix so that members like you around the world have even more great TV shows and movies to enjoy.

    I signed up for ARS229.

    • +1

Guess my mail is on its way and then i will have to pack my bags and move to Turkey.

      • Base on the current exchange rate, the different between ARS $299 and TRY $40 are like AUD $0.70 cents each month.

With all the hassles involves to signed up, I rather pay the extra $0.70 month.

        • +1

That 70c is better off going to another bargain than being unnecessarily spent when it can be avoided and is a few minutes really a hassle? :)

          • @MaximumEffort777: If guaranteed I’m able to signup than I have no issues.

But if you had read previous comments from others mentioning how many attempts they did before they successfully signed up. And I’m one of them that took many many attempts.

        • +1

mate, thats $8.40 over 12 months.

      • Got my mail so off to Turkey I go.

  • Just signed up for hotspot shield trial and set it to Turkey.

Works right away! Thank you :)

  • I have subscribed to IP Vanish. I can't find any servers for Turkey or Argentina, am I missing something?

  • LOVING IT! Got a mate to go halves on the ultra plan now each paying $5.50 p/m for 2 devices/screens each.

  • confirmed! hotspot vpn and 28 degrees combination work!

    • forgot to mention. i signed up for new account rather than using my existing account

  • Hotspot shield with Macquarie or CBA fails.

  • I tried to sign up via hotspot but wouldn't work with 28 degrees or anz adventures.

I tried finalising the trial in AUD and that worked with that card, then tried cancelling and restarting but it was still in AU.

Will use the free month then re-evaluate options.

  • Question.

    Does this work?

    https://www.finder.com.au/frequent-flyer-netflix-gift-cards

Can I charge Turkisk Lira's onto an AUD nominated gift card?

  • Is Netflix down for anyone?

  • My account is saying it’s inactive now.
    Anyone else have this issue?

    • no issues, working fine

  • +1

I use NordVPN and have tried both Turkey and Argentina, but when I get to the plans page, it still shows me prices in USD. I'd be greatful if anyone can help and advise what I might be doing wrong? I've also checked What Is My IP to confirm that my location is Turkey, and am using Firefox as my browser. I've checked Chrome and same thing.

    • try WorldVPN

Nord gets detected for me and moves me back to Australia as of 2019.

  • Alright I tried a HEAP of combinations (both Turkey & Argentina) and this is finally what worked for me…

Cyberghost VPN Argentina, Android, Firefox browser (private mode) (I usually use Chrome so I had no cookies/cache on firefox), MEBank debit card (might get hit with international fees on this, not sure..)

  • I tried a few combinations as well and this is what worked for me:

Safer VPN Argentina, Android Chrome app incognito, Bankwest Zero Platinum Mastercard

  • Anyone got charged additional VAT for Argentina? They are supposed to charge 21% more on top of ARS299 since some time ago…

  • +1

Successfully signed up via Turkey using Getflix VPN and the 28 Degrees Mastercard. Used an existing account that lapsed yesterday.

Edit: Firefox in Private Window mode.

    • can you explain how you did this in detail- I can't Getflix to use the turkey dns

      • Use the VPN, not the DNS.

        1. Check out the VPN setup instructions on the Getflix site.
        2. Download Tunnelblick
        3. Use the Turkey-Istanbul_UDP443.ovpn file that you download from Getflix in-conjunction with Tunnelblick.

It's a bit convoluted in the beginning but i had it up and running in about 10 minutes on a Macbook laptop.

  • Has anyone had success with ING card?

    • +1

Yes. ING Orange Everyday. Tried every way with no luck. Let Netflix subscription expire, connect to net with Safe VPN trial and then renewed Netflix on overseas plan.

  • Worked for me with CyberGhost 1 day trial, Argentina server and 28 Degrees.

  • I am now being charged weekly with the Turkish Netflix as opposed to monthly - anyone else?

    • Yes, happened to me also. I contacted support and they advised Turkey doesn't offer monthly. Still don't know if this is truly the case or not.

  • With AUD going up against the ARS, my Dec Netflix bill of 299 ARS came to $10.90 with 28 Degrees. Happy so far.

  • +2

Worked first time for me with Citibank Plus + Turkey Hotspot Shield trial.

  • Bankwest platinum + torguard worked for me

  • Thanks. As others have mentioned nordvpn servers don't work and only show USD even when choosing turkey servers.

Follows others in this thread and used turkey hotspot shield on android + Firefox private browsing.

  • Same here, Torguard trial and Bankwest worked for Turkey

  • For me currency is showing in US dollar on both Argentina and Turkey with Nord VPN free trial. Anybody with same issue?

    • Read earlier that nord doesn’t work.

      • yeah.. tried with hotspot shield with my cba debit card. worked.

  • Thanks OP!

  • +1

Hotspot Shield (7 day trial) + 28 Degrees MC + Turkey + Chrome on PC = all good!

  • +1

Looks like good plan, but of course, when I tried it just now, could not connect with the site ['Netflix Site Error']
    Would this work?
ATM there is an offer from Optus for free Netflix (and a Samsung tablet) when you sign up for 24 months of 4G home internet. The value of the Netflix offer is $167.
So providing whatever is up with the Netflix website is fixed, you sign up for the Optus offer and use the $167 credit to get Standard Netflix via Argentina, Turkey or the Federated States of Micronesia for 22 months.
Anyone have any idea whether that would work?
I like cheap Netflix but free Netflix looks even more betterer…

    • That netflix credit will most likely not work for countries other than Australia.

    • I am on the Ultra HD plan paying 40 Turkish Lira (~$10.50 AUD) per month using this VPN method.

I also signed up for that Optus & Samsung Tablet deal (sold the tablet for $800 on Gumtree).

However when I added the 12 month code to my Netflix account, it seems to have only applied a credit of 335.88 Turkish Lira (~$88 AUD), which will only cover about 8 months of Netflix on my current Ultra HD plan.

Not sure what happened behind the scenes, but perhaps it would've been better for me to cancel my Turkish plan, switch back to a regular (non Ultra HD) Australian account (paying $14/month), then applying the voucher. I think I would've got the full $168 credit then.

Oh well. Still an amazing deal from Optus.

Btw here are the official details of the Samsung Netflix deal from Optus:
      https://yescrowd.optus.com.au/t5/Hidden/Samsung-Netflix-Offe…

  • changed billing from itunes to turkey CC successfully. VPN: Getflix (UDP1194) CC: Citibank Debit TL39.99/Mon Card shows charge of AUD$10.49 today(07/01)
Thanks heaps OP and everyone on posting tips and tricks.

  • There must be some sort of lock that Netflix put on cards once used on another account or maybe it's based on regions used. I set up an Argentinian account just fine initially but now trying to set up one for Turkey I constantly get an issue with the payment method.

Guess I'll have to suck up that extra ~75c!

https://www.worldvpn.net/free-vpn/ free vpn for turkey to sign up netflix

Please notice we send the trial account to email service that provided by Gmail,Yahoo,Microsoft,Yandex,Apple or GMX, we do not send trial to other emails.

Just install openconnect and follow instruction from www.worldvpn.net i used android mobile worked a treat for me

    • Worked for me on PC with Firefox

    • Finally was able to connect through Turkey with worldvpn and tried to start my membership but ING, CBA and AMEX cards didn't work. Haha probably just not meant to be…

    • Thanks this worked for me on Android. Hotspot shield only showed me EUR.

  • Worked again for me with hotspot shield turkey and anz travel adventures.

  • Can the 4 users still be shared with people living in different houses?

    • Yep, can even be in different countries and Netflix don’t care.

  • Connecting to turkey vpn with hotspot shield like many are suggesting but when I go to Netflix it comes up as Netherlands…

    • Me too

  • Tried the following nothing worked ….

    VPNs

    • Getflix
    • SaferVPN
    • WorldVPN

    Credit Cards

    • CBA Debit
    • ING Debit
    • Coles Credit

    Devices

    • PC
    • iPad
    • Android
  • Used SaferVPN 3days free trial
    Set up under Argentina location
    IOS Safari incognito mode
AMEX Card didnt work // ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card worked (3% fee)

    219 Argentine Peso for standard = $8.23+3% = ~$8.48/month

Still works out quite cheap compared to $13.99/month , very happy :)

    thank you

    • This worked for me.

SaferVPN, Argentina, Firefox (cleared cache), 28 Degrees

  • I used commonwealth bank travel card turkey $11.12 a month

  • I don't see a 'reactivate account' option. Only 'add billing details'.

Sounds like I have to make a new account, amirite?

  • I’ve already successfully signed up thru Turkey VPN. If I wanted to simply change the card Netflix bills to… do I have to go through the whole VPN process?

    • which VPN did you use mate, I kept getting Netflix Netherlands via a few VPNs, cheers ! the IP address - 85.203.19.40 is a Turkey one but netflix always directed to Netherlands.

      • Self reply - used worldvpn 1 day free trial on desktop google incognito and bankwest zero master credit card signed up Turkey Netflix … cheers op!

  • +1

Like a lot of other people, my credit card was also declined (I was using Citibank Debit/Coles Mastercard with Getflix VPN). I then noticed in the original mydealz post that OP links to, they mention buying a Netflix Turkey gift card from the following site:

    mtcgame.com/de-DE/netflix/netflix-hediye-karti

What do you know?? … It actually worked!! I paid using G2A Pay. I'm not too sure how trustworthy either mtcgame.com or g2a.com are but the entire transfer process from CC deposit to Netflix redemption took about 6 hours to complete the first time (the account confirmation process required manual verification of my mobile number on their side). But the subsequent transaction was completed almost immediately. Make sure to select to pay in TRY on mtcgame.com and also to top up your G2A Pay account in TRY too - rather than AUD. I used my Coles Mastercard to make the deposit.

Unavoidably, there was a bit of a cost overhead (around 7%) as compared to AUD>TRY conversion at market rate but it's still a huge saving for me overall.

NOTE: at the end of the G2A Pay balance top-up process, the spinning countdown icon just stays there and doesn't go away / or returns a blank page. If you open another browser tab and check your balance though, you'll find that the deposit does actually go through successfully.

As I mentioned before, I can't vouch for the trustworthiness of the intermediary sites I've used. I can only confirm that I was able to successfully complete 2 transactions to top up my Netflix balance with a total of 250 TL.

    • Process went smoothly as described in aquiring the giftcard - waiting for confirmation but seemed to work as above no problem. Decided to get one as a backstop (waiting for my subscription to run out) and Turkey difference in price even with the increase is still acceptable. If the process works or not using CC can still add the giftcard.

      • Was not able to get my Coles Mastercard to work so went with the TRY giftcards which added without any issue. Used PureVPN.

  • Don't know where I am going wrong I used the Getflix Turkey VPN and verified that my IP address was showing as Turkey then tried with both Chrome & Firefox and each time I tried to update my account and payment details it was presenting in US $.
    Any ideas

    • Some VPN providers offer only US Netflix no matter the server you connect to (it gets redirected to Netflix US in the background).

  • +1

If you own a Revolut card then use it - no issues. As for the VPN, worldvpn.net worked flawlessly.

    • What a great reason for a neg.

    • Is There a Way to Get The Bargains without The Losers? (Inappropriate)

      HMMMMMMM

  • Hmmm going to give this a go, thanks!

Idk why you all are doing this, when there is s simple hack to get netflix for free. Just sign up for new '30 day trial' every month, with different billing method.
I'm not saying you should get free netflix, I'm just saying you could.
Those that can afford to pay full price for netflix IMO should.
If your going to get away with ripping netflix off 50% of their fee though, then might as well just get free netflix .
Once you use this posted 'deal' or use Netflix US hack, or share accounts, you have already 'slid down the slope' so to speak.

I intend to pay for netflix once I am no longer and student, and can afford it.

    • Just sign up for new '30 day trial' every month with a different billing method.

Oh that's sounds like a great idea. Get a new credit card every month so I save $4.

      • Get a new credit card every month so I save $4 $20 (For 4k netflix).

Don't need new CC . And replacement for mastercard/visa debit card costs ZERO.
Also, can sign up with PayPal. PayPal allows each card to be attached to 2 accounts.

If you don't want to save $4 or $10,$20 (every month, so $240 per year), then why would you be here on a bargain site . Lolz

        • My replacement mastercard has the same number as the one being replaced (might have a different expiry), so wouldn't that mean you can't just sign up a new account on a trial with the new replacement card because your mastercard number is on their record?

          • @garyf: Probably because its different expiry date (and different CCV number on back ?) Then can create new account for free 30 days trial.
IMO, new PayPal is easier. Remove card from old paypal, then close paypal, on closing paypal invites you back any time. So then next day or whatever, just open new paypal (same card should be completely fine, as long as you removed it from old paypal account before you permanently closed account) .
            Hope this helps.

            • @[Deactivated]: I did try to link a new replacement mastercard (with the same 16 digits, but different expiry and CCV to my old mastercard which was already linked to an existing account) to a different Paypal account, but it tells me that I couldn't because it was used with another account (presumably my existing account). So, as you mentioned, the old account probably needs to be closed first (and card removed) before trying to link the new one :-). Have you actually tried that with success?

              Thanks for sharing :-).

              • +1

                @slimdusty:

Have you actually tried that with success?
                Thanks for sharing :-).

Yes, done many times over successfully. And your welcome :).
Don't be having multiple accounts or will likely be flagged and possibly account banned.
                Always close old account.

If ever have something like this fail, leave it a few days, try again. Sometimes have to leave it for 1 week, then try again.

Btw, can use same method to have free stan, prime tv, free xbox trial, free ps4 plus trial, free google play music 3-4 month trials, and others with free trials and paypal payment option also :) . Go straight to paypal after you sign up, and remove permission for automatic payments, if not changing regularly, that way after free trial, permission is revoked for autopayments anyway (directly through your paypal, so netflix, stan etc don't find out until they attempt to take automatic payment after the free month).

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: Awesome! You are a pro. Thanks again :-)

                • @[Deactivated]: Yo I tried this but the account got flagged for it.
I put in a new email address but put everything else as my actual info. Do you have to put a new address, phone number etc for it to work?
