just logged on in adelaide and looks like we have a few cars here too.

      • +26

        horse and carts don't count.

        • A horse is debatable. However, a cart definitely doesn't have the cognitive processes to do so… kind of like an eastern state citizen :)

  • +16

My credit card got flagged when someone tried to use it three times on OLA in Melbourne in the space of five hours. I now have a new one. I can't work out from where it got leaked. Nothing against the service, just some scumbag who got my number from somewhere. Now back to that naked site with all those popups…

  • +15

Ola is always cheaper than uber I've found. Haven't touched uber for a long time

    • +1

Ola pays its driver better also.

      • For now

  • +1

If I use a referral can I still use this

    • Same question from me. Maybe the two codes won’t stack, but can you save both and choose which gets applied? Thanks!

    • +1

Give it a try and let us know.

      • +1

I’m a first time user but I’m only seeing $10 off.

  • Are there sufficient drivers in Brisbane for this to be practical?

    • +7

Tonnes in Perth. Equal to uber. Just stepped out of one actually.

When they first launched there were longer wait times compared to uber, but a couple months later it's all pretty equal.

Given they launched in Brisbane later, it may not be at the stage where it's on par, but I'm sure it will be soon

    • +4

I had no issue getting one in the city last friday very quickly, Uber drivers seem to just do both Uber and Ola for the most part from what I can tell.

    • I have been using Ola in Brisbane since July and certainly reliable and reliable drivers. The app is not as friendly as others but the value is there.

    • Yep. More and more doing both uber/ola. You get the same thing in the end for cheaper

  • +8

These guys are dodgy as hell, I've been back and forth just trying to get my referral credit but no dice. Keep on receiving promises that I'll get the credit, then being ignored by their support department. Avoid, they're just not worth the hassle. Uber and Gocatch have responsive and capable support.

    • +1

Gocatch have responsive and capable support? Were you here a few months back?

      • Yes I was. However my experience with Gocatch support when I've made individual support requests has been excellent. The exact opposite of Ola.

  • +5

tried adding the code to see how much it'd cost me
    Estimated fare $55 —> after code $45.11

    • +2

Code from OP, does not seem to give discount per the post.

      • -4

        are you a new user
maybe existing riders get $10 off

  • +5

showing only $10 off the trip after code is applied

    • +1

      Same.. only $10off

  • +4

Going by what happened in India, they'll have huge incentives upfront for drivers/passengers then slowly drop what they pay drivers over time.

  • +6

Be warned, Ola has officially the worst technology platform. Their system will literally charge you for every toll the car drives past, even if you don't take any of them. From the north side of Brisbane to Fortitude Valley, it will somehow cost $9.60 in tolls, including a trip through the Airport Link Tunnel and Clem Jones Tunnel, even though you didn't take one of them, and it's geographically impossible to take the other.

Sydney riders have reported similar issues with the billion toll points around the Eastern Distributor and Harbour.

  • +10

Just tried it now and only $10 discount. And outrageously expensive compared to uber

  • +4

    Only seeing $10 off.

  • +1

On my 14ty trip from them. Less cars but way cheaper than uber. Drivers get a better commision to offset the lower fare. Win/win so far for me. Only bad thing is drivers can be overly talkative to build up ratings ;)

    • But isn't the much the same as Uber?

  • +1

I can’t even get it to work. I am an existing user in Perth and when I enter the code all I get is ‘Sorry, this offer is not applicable for your booking’.

  • +3

Just signed up a new account using a referral code, can confirm this only gives $10 in that circumstance

  • +1

    Says invalid code

  • +7

Careful last time I used their $20 off code I got charged the full amount, never received a response from their support.

    • It is quite dodgy that even when using discount, they will block account if don't have funds available in mastercard debit for full ammount .
I have had a few cards/accounts blocked, when I chose a fare under $20 , applied discount code for $20, then was blocked because the card I used only had $10 in it.
For this deal, if choosing $30 fare then applying code make sure you have funds in debit mastercard, but then if they overcharge you, chargeback is an option, if contacting Ola support does not resolve

  • Very nice. I've got a trip to the airport coming up. This will help.

  • everytime i’ve tried to confirm my visa debit card as payment, it gets blocked by ANZ. I have no idea how to fix it.

    • what did ANZ say when you contacted them?

  • +2

These guys had a bus stop advertisement up about 3 minutes from my home. So I tried to give them a go one day, only for the app to tell me that my area was not serviced by Ola. Oh well, can't say I didn't try.

  • If you can get any OLA rides then it would be good. I can always get UBER. However, I could not get others

  • -5

Had 3 OLA drivers cancel, best strategy was to delete the app and order an uber.

  • +2

I use Ola regularly. Always available and quite a bit cheaper than Uber. Drivers tell me that they make more money than when driving for Uber given the lower commission.

    • You don't mess with..

  • +2

Dodgy flaky app I have found Ola to be.
DiDi and Uber are much better.

As for prices, UberPool is the most economical with DiDi ok when they’re discounting.

Uber have surcharging. More expensive when high demand.
DiDi have discounting. Cheaper when low demand.
Ola I’ve only use when they have coupons.
    This coupon did not work.

    • how about taxify?

      • $20 off first ride with Taxify, last I checked. I kept on getting emails/notifications "Its Walter from taxify, use your $20 off" . Got quite annoying as Im in area wuthout taxify, and only went to Sydney every now and then. Sydney has Ola, Taxify, Uber, gocatch . All usually offer $20 discount from first ride. Maybe need a code, sometimes no code required.

    • DiDi showed wrong pick up and drop addresses (different city all together) in my trip receipts and also very wrong times as well. Since they were official trips, I had to get it fixed. It took 25 emails explaining the same thing and showing the same screenshots again and again and finally got it half fixed when I escalated my emails to the global support. Not funny.

  • Anyone has problem using their app on iPhone? every time I open it, it just crashes.

  • +1

Have been using ola since their launch in Perth. Had no issues so far. Drivers complained about the app but for me as a rider it wasn't an issue.

  • Couldn’t activate a ride on the app

  • +5

I tried to use Ola at the airport and then the app crashed on me and couldn't find the ride when I reopened it. Went back to Uber and got a ride.

The ola driver ended up calling me saying he was there waiting for me. Told him, sorry in the Uber already and he hung up on me. He ended up driving starting the ride without me in it and charged me $40.

Complained to Ola multiple times, but heard nothing back for weeks. Ended up putting through a charge back and was found in my favour.

    • +2

I'm not advocating for uber nor ola… However there will always be rogue drivers (and rogue passengers) with any ride sharing app.
Uber support has been terrible in my experience. They even suckered me into being overcharged, giving me a BS line for why the discount code was in, but didn't seemed to be applied at checkout. They kept telling me to just pay, and they would sort it out after. Uber support lied to me, told me this 3 times. Turned out discount couldn't be applied for some other reason, and they were just lying to get the cash off me, then screw me later and refuse refund/discount.
Ended up having to do chargeback, or threaten to do chargeback, before it was sorted.
Uber support extremely bad for drivers also . I have spoken to drivers who have been assaulted and passenger trying to stand over them, smash up the car, etc. They contacted Uber support and Uber support did absolutely nothing, didn't even ban passenger from riding again. 1 driver was still noticeably traumatized by the attack/threat he endured. Other driver passenger was trying to stand over him and told driver "you have to take me, Im not getting out" after driver was hassled by drunk passengers. The driver was ex-bouncer and dealt with situation by stopping, saying "we can contact police, they will come out here, then they will make you pay for a surcharge for my time waiting for police to come…. or you can just get out" . That passenger got out. It is a shame that Uber doesn't seem to care about either driver. The 1st driver I that was visibly shaken by events, he mentioned he was particularly frustrated by not being able to talk to anyone, not having a call back, or even phone contact line. Only having an email contact for Uber who did nothing and didn't seem to care at all.

  • code not valid

  • Signed up for Ola today and was credited $20 without entering any code. Received an email shortly after from Ola stating "As one of our earliest users, you can enjoy a free Ola ride up to $20 in Perth. The credit auto-applies and the rides are valid for a week. Be sure to check the fare estimate in the app before your ride."
Plan on using today to get to Suited in Burswood.

  • is it possible to book OLA in advance? I mean can i book a trip 2 weeks in advance?

  • Yep. Told me it didn't apply to my ride. Bastards. What a crap way to enter a referral/promo code.

    • And now it can't even find a car. I'm literally in the middle of sydney. This app blows.

  • +8

103 upvotes! But has anyone actually managed to use this code to get $30 off? A lot of ppl (myself included) only get $10 off, and I am a new user, only just downloaded the app after I saw this post.

    • I think it is safe to say that no one got $30 off from this "deal" as no one replied to my post and gave confirmation?

So my conclusion >>> NO DEAL here folks, better to use the referral link [here] (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/olacabs.com) as you get $20 credit, rather than $10 credit using the promo code on this post.

  • +1

Not valid for me (existing customer).

  • +1

Dodgy company. Non-existent support. Do not use!

  • +2

This is definitely only $10 off, including for new users (I am one, installed and tried today). My first ride came pre-populated with a $20 discount - I believe it was "OLATOSYD"

  • +1

Extremely dodgy company, never gave me $20 sign on credit and charged double what the estimate was - ripped off $43 and never got a response either on the app or by email. Use at own risk.

  • I came home from in work in an Ola today. When trying to apply the code it said it wasn't applicable to my ride. Existing customer. Plenty of Ola's in Perth, I waited 3 minutes and there about 10 other cars in the area.

I wonder if this offer is somehow targeted. My trip cost me $36 to get home and the app estimated $32-38 btw.

Also tried the $5 off uber trip code I saw in another bargain post and that didn't work for me either.

  • Signed up to use from Tullamarine Airport this morning. Found that there was an automatic code applied to pickups from the airport that was a bigger discount than this code.

Trying to use this code for the next ride but it says not applicable. Is it because it’s no longer my first ride this code is no longer valid on my account?

Also weird thing happened with the first driver that accepted. I got a call from a 02 landline (NSW number). I answered and the guy said he was my driver and asked where was I going? After I said my hotel name (in Melbourne CBD) he hung up and then soon after that ride was cancelled. Weird. Second driver was really good though.

Just signed up and booked a ride. $20 automatically deducted as a new member with with the code of OLAQLD. Can't complain really.

    • Thanks for the code. The original code didn't work for me

  • Hi Guys do you know if you can prebook rides? I am looking at app but can not find that option. Thanks

  • Tried to use this code today and it keeps coming up as invalid code. Tried all the other codes listed here also with the same result

  • Same here. not working now.
