Via pointshack.

Btw I would personally go for the Amplify as it converts 2:1 to Krisflyer and I value Krisflyer more than Qantas.

  • Amplify points converts at least 2:1 ratio.. so Qantas points at 80,000 is far better value

    • +14

True. But I personally would get the Amplify as it converts 2:1 to Krisflyer. I value flying SQ more than QF.

  • +3

    It's actually two deals:

Deal 1: 100k Amplify points for $0 (save $279) annual fee upon $4000 spend in first 3 months

Deal 2: 80k Qantas points for $179 (save $100) annual fee upon $4000 spend in first 3 months

    Note: 100k Amplify points = 50k Velocity/Krisflyer points

    • Ah thanks. Ill try fix the deal above. Sorry got excited when I saw $0.

  • +1

Got this on the last deal, had to jump through lots of hoops, took weeks, 6 months bank statements, months of pay slips. Stable income above what was required. YMMV.

    • +1

Very odd. I applied for this card 4 months ago (when it was at $179 and 90K Amplify). Did not have to do any of what you said above. Just standard 2 pay slips and got card in mail. Also points got posted every month with no issues. Good bank.

      • +2

I earn well above the required income, have assets, good credit record etc. Denied.

It's the only card that has ever denied me. I found it quite weird.

        • +2

Yep I too was denied, around Dec last year.
          First denial ever

          • +1

@daft009: Me too, income, cash assets and good credit scores from the three providers yet denied too

Had no issues with westpac though

            • @phynicle: Mine had gone through with no issue. It was two months ago and I had two other cards then.

            • @phynicle: But the points are worth more here to me. So will keep trying lol.

    • Yeah, westpac and st george seem very picky. Perhaps they're after people who can't make the repayments?

      • I don’t think so, I’ve never had an issue with any other card, westpac included, and my savings and income are far and above what’s required.

    • No issues on my end -> relatively quick and smooth and if anything, less requirements than other credit cards I've applied for in the past. YMMV as you say.

  • +4

    what is the min income?

  • Can you transfer amplify points to qantas or virgin?

    • No to Qantas, yes to Virgin (velocity).

      • Ta!

  • +3

What's the minimum income? Is it 75k?

  • +1

What does 100k amplify points convert to in gift cards?

  • How do you all manage to spend 4k in 3 months? Is there some ozbargainer trick where you launder the money through buying and selling eneloop batteries?

    • +4

Pay your bills in advance (phone, utilities, etc).
      Buy lots of gift cards.

    • +8

Buy Wish giftcards, they dont expire.
      Pay council rates in advanced
Pay insurance for car, home, health etc by monthly.
      Go on holidays.
Spend on some high class hookers.

      • +5

Hmm, never considered anything other than my goto low class hookers but you might be on to something.

      • Doesn't buying gift cards with a CC count it as cashout?

        • +1

          No

          • @daft009: Sorry *cash advance, I've had a Google around before and seems to be it's considered so

            • @DracoManX69: Buy Woolies e-gift cards then. Or just buy gift cards from Woolies. Will be considered a normal transaction

              • @daft009: Surely the banks are onto this for points churners though, seems too easy and too good to be true

                • @DracoManX69: I'm not a churner, but no they aren't

Edit I'd love to get this card and keep it indefinitely. But rejected last year. Might give it another go just before closing date

    • Shock horror people live different lifestyles to you

      • +1

        Thanks for the helpful response!

    • +6

      Have a family.

      • +3

Exactly. When it was just me in first job, I would have struggled to spend this. But add a wife and a kid, and can spend this and more, without even using gift cards. Groceries for family, eat out twice a week, electricity & gas at $500/quarter, private health insurance, buy some plane tickets, petrol, car rego/CTP/comprehensive insurance/service/pink slip at $2500/year, etc etc. Wouldn't even need the full 3 months.

        • +1

two kids, can't afford to eat out but try to eat relatively healthy so $180 to $250 a week at the supermarket is easy (plus 1 top up shop sometimes).

With that as the baseline, most spends are easy to make!

    • +2

      Wife?

      • +1

Are you selling yours for $4k?

    • +1

Ask your wife or gf. Problem solved.

    • Get a cat

    • +1

I use a utility provider to pay $4000 in advance then request a cheque after a few weeks. Legit ozbargain laundering :p

  • Are you eligible of you haven't held this card in the last 12 months

Edit: whoops I can't read, my bad. the answer is yes.

  • How much are the points worth in $ value ?

    • About 1.2-1.3 cents per point on the black market.

    • +1

It's subjective, but the generally accepted market value is 1.2 cents for a Qantas point, and I believe it's the same for Virgin points. i.e.
      100 K amplify = 50 k virgin points = 50000 * 0.012 = $600 of velocity points and no annual fee.
      80 K Qantas points = 80000 * 0.012 = $960 of Qantas points, minus $179 annual fee = effectively $781 of Qantas points.

      • unless you use the points for qantas shop or points plus pay for air tickets. Then it is about $.0067 per point. So 80000 * 0.0067 = $536, minus $179 fee = effectively $357 of qantas points. i reckon it is better to purchase economy tickets that are eligible for business class awards upgrades and spend 100k points on a return upgrade (obviously subject to availability).

        • Do you know if the awards upgrades are available before you purchase the economy flights?

          • +1

@serpserpserp: no, you just have to apply and wait. Obviously Platinum/Gold/Silver FF members will get higher priority over Bronze FF. I tried to get 2 business class upgrades from BKK-MEL. Qantas sent me an SMS a day before my flight back saying no upgrades available and i'm a Gold FF. They only take your points if successful.

      • Yep. Good calculations. The Qantas card is better value.

  • I cancelled the Qantas Signature card in June so clearly ineligible for it again. But could I, and others like me, get the Amplify card as part of this offer and get the bonus? I've never had this card before.

  • +1

Just got rejected. Never been rejected for a CC before with 100k plus income, low mortgage.
Weird. Just a straight up rejection. Oh well.
And just checked my credit rating online and its 'very good'.

    • +4

Why don’t you ask the bank? My qantas credit card was rejected and I asked and told because I already have Citibank credit card which also issues for Qantas.

    • This doesn't instill confidence in me :/

I'm still waiting for my bonus points from the Westpac offer so I can cancel it and apply with a lower credit limit. Get a move on Westpac ffs

  • +2

St George are a pain in the butt to deal with for CC applications, and the only one in my life ever to knock me back. After a lot of to and fro, they rejected me (And I have top AMEX etc.) Never St George again.

    • Thanks, I will stay away from the dragon.

    • Pity. It's the best non amex card out there…

    • +1

Yup totally agree! Dangling a carrot and then telling you that you don't deserve the carrot isn't the best way to endear yourself to potential customers.

  • i didnt realise it was underwritten by st george/westpac before applying..

anyway as a self employed person applying for this card is a (profanity) nightmare.

provided my NOI which usually means instant approval
please give us your personal bank statements
give bank statements with other non relevant accounts blacked out
please give us your business bank statements.

    no thanks mate

    would not recommend

  • +2

Thanks OP, 50k Kris Flyer (which is the equivalent of 67k velocity at the moment) for $0 is my kind of deal!

  • I'm now just about convinced to never apply for these credit card details straight away. Leave it a week or two at least. Those who apply as soon as the offers are announced seem to have a higher incidence of rejection.

Makes sense when you consider it is likely the churners who are jumping on these deals so fast.

    • This deal has been around for months…

      • Variations of, yes, but this specific deal was announced yesterday.

        • This specific deal was the same last month.

  • Can you access the qantas or virgin lounges if you are flying with a different airline?

Also, can you gift the lounge pass access if you are not going to use them?

  • +2

Applied for the Qantas deal and emailed documents this morning and just got approved tonight. Got a text and email saying I'll be receiving the card within 5 business days. Thanks OP!

  • Rejected for the Qantas, Westpac cards last week but this one approved fine yesterday.

Also as this is a Westpac affiliated card would I still be able to get the Westpac card in the future for the points?

    • +1

      Yes you would be fine.

      • I'm not so sure about this. When I read the st george terms it said I wasn't able to receive the points because I had a westpac offer.

Wouldn't this be the same when reversed?

        • +1

I had a westpac black cc, closed in May 18. Signed up to this offer in August 18, got the points.

          • @starburstyellow: How long did it take to credit the points after reaching the spend amount? Did you have to pay off the balance before they gave you the points?

  • +1

Thanks OP! Got one with a quick conditional approval!

  • I am tempted, because looking for a free one to get points but considering waiting a bit more in case something else comes in.
edit : I had a look on previous deals and looks like ANZ happened in Jan 2018 so might wait Jan for the new free card :)

  • Applied 6th Nov, supplied 2x payslips same day, then didn't hear back for 1.5 weeks.
I then called them and apparently they said it was approved the 7th and the cards have already been sent out, wait up to 10 days.
Didn't get any emails or texts to confirm successful approval, but got the cards on 19th in the mail.
Fingers crossed water and electricity are not 'ineligible' government purchases…

  • +1

QFF version of card is now fee-free as per:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/418075

  • OP link doesn't have Deal 2. Anyone knows how to get Deal 2?

  • Use this one as it has an fee of $0 now.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/418075

  • Anybody succeed with good cash flow/no debt but average credit score?

  • Applied for this last week - still waiting for them to decide.
I'm retired on 50K after tax pension and they claim they are still trying to verify my Public Service Superannuation.
Got several credit cards - all with low or no balance. Total balance under 15k
Got an email stating I'd been conditionally approved for 15k limit, then got another saying it was 20k limit. Then it all went silly and they've made no progress at all. Can't be bothered dealing people who are that slow to process things.
Load of rubbish if you ask me. Have given them an ultimatum - approve today or cancel the application.
Some seem to be getting immediate OK - maybe age discrimination (Joke)

    • +1

I would stay the course, considering your Credit File has been hit already. Sometimes gotta be bit more patient for these banks.

      • starburstyellow
Too late… I sent them an email shortly after I posted to OzBargain.
Got no reply - typical of a bank.
        Given up with St George.
Maybe try going to Qantas direct, they sent me an offer for 70k +30k after annual renewal.
The hit to my credit file would have been the first thing in about 5 years, so I hope it'll take another hit without too much damage. If not, Meh…
Would've been nice to have a card that gave me points, but the big purchase that would've got me across the spending line won't wait much longer so I'll just use a normal card and forget the points… Shame cos it would've almost maxxed out the credit limit and earned some nice points…
        Thanks for the comment though…

  • I just got my temp card. The letter said they have been ozbargain and struggling to keep up with supply of cards so sent me a temporary one. No idea why this can't just be my normal card!

  • +2

This offer has been extended to 23rd of January 2019, can you please update…

Also i got my points after the 1st statement closed, thanks OP.

    • Thanks. Havd organised to be extended.

  • How does one get the qantas lounge passes? Just tried to call but there was a long wait so figured I’d ask you helpful lot first!

    • +1

      In the fine print:
