Send international transfers to a bank account fee free. I came across this when looking for an acquaintance who wants to send some GBP to AUD for a birthday gift.
I was looking at Transferwise price comparison, as I was thinking of recommending them, however I saw that, for any amount from £1 - £50,000, when exchanging GBP-AUD Western Union gave the best rate. Note that Transferwise comparison does not show Western Union for amounts over GBP4000, you have to check that for yourself.
I tested itself myself on Monday, sending a little over a quid, and the full amount in AUD is in my account in Australia 30 hours later, showing up as 'SWIFT deposit'.
Presumably to make use of this one needs a UK located GBP bank account. Rates for GBP to EUR and GBP to USD also beat Transerwise according to their price comparison.
There is a referral scheme, with format ssgt (dot) co (slash) 7chars which could be added to the OzB referral scheme if anyone is interested (I'd add mine if there were one):
"Invite up to 5 friends to register for an online Western Union profile
Get them to send
£50 or more online
Enjoy a £20 WU promo code for both you and your friend"
"You can now send up to £50,000 for a £0 transfer fee*
- Limit increased as of September 24, 2018. Western Union also makes money from currency exchange. When choosing a money transmitter, carefully compare both transfer fees and exchange rates. Fees, foreign exchange rates and taxes may vary by brand, channel, and location based on a number of factors. Fees and rates subject to change without notice.
** Funds may be delayed or services unavailable based on certain transaction conditions, including amount sent, destination country, currency availability, regulatory issues, identification requirements, Agent location hours, differences in time zones, or selection of delayed options. Additional Restrictions may apply. See terms for details."
£50,000 is chump change.
