It really pisses me off when huge companies have grammatical & spelling errors on their websites. It's so unprofessional and frankly just disgusting.

    • too many ands? but also agree. makes big companies look like phishing websites as well

"Weather you want to tone up…"

        • i don't see that, i see "Whether you want to tone up"

[Mod: language please] they are terrible.

Apparently Fitness First doesn't stop calling you after you've had your trial and after you've stopped your membership.

      • +2

I was once a member of Fitness First, was very difficult to cancel my membership - even after I informed them in writing - basically had to tell the bank to not let them take any more money out.
I know other people who had similar experiences. And they still call you after you've canceled your membership.

Personally I'm more offended by Scary Spice than the bad grammar. Since when is she sporty anyway? I thought that role was taken. Ah, since she didn't marry a Beckham I guess she needs cashola and will flog anything.

And yes, Fitness First are like human spam. Annoying as hell - don't give them your phone number!

  • They never called me after I cancelled my membership… but I have heard of their high pressure sales tactics after you go in for trial. I guess it depends on where you are as well, cos they seemed pretty relaxed in the Canberra City gym and I wasn't really pushed into the membership and they didn't have a fit when I wanted to leave. Plus they were on the ball when they stuffed up one of they direct debit payments, which is a lot different to other comments I've seen about FF.

  • i'm not sure if its the same but Fitness First has been trying to recruit new members with their free one week trial for years now

  • Fitness First are unprofessional…they will say anything to get a sale and call you non-stop.

  • +1

You need to give thema really solid excuse to get them to stop calling. I usually use 'Im already a member at another, better gym' or 'im leaving for a student exchange to europe in three weeks for a year'. Or 'I hurt my back playing rugby, and still cant walk yet. Ive explained this time and time again, please STOP calling'

    • +1

I've always found "I'm too busy studying my last year of law to make time for the gym" to work quite well.

      • +2

Maybe just let them know you know where their parents live.

        • -2

Actually, that's probably crossing the line :s

  • You can get free trials anytime. It's a standard way for gyms to get your info so they can start their pressure tactics. eg. (From: my post on http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/31708)

  • I fell for the 5 day free trial some time early last year. I entered my details, and sometime later the sales guy called to make an appointment, by then, I had already forgotten about the free trial and they didnt remind me or mention the free trial. The sales guy was pretty much pissed as he spent almost an hour trying to get me to sign up, and giving me a 'special discount thats only valid right now' BS. Imo, I would stay away from these free trials if youre easily persuaded and dont intend in joining. This is one of the companys where giving your details for a small 'freebie' is not worth it.

    • +3

I love wasting their time and frustrating them and am far from easily persuaded. I can't wait for the calls to start. :P

      • I do too. The sales guy hung up on me when i asked whether i should have chicken or beef :( , after trying to call me all day on a private no.

  • +1

Every gym does this so I don't know how much of a deal it is. 7 free days is nothing in the scheme of things, try and find one that will give you 3 months off. Also be very careful with the contract they are sneaky buggers. You can easily get a gym to give you membership for under 15 a week.

  • -4

Crunch Gym in Chatswood $6 a week!

    • +2

Ah where the hell is that. You can compare a local gym to one that has branches all around Australia.

(Not that I'm supporting fitness first, it's just a stupid justification for a neg)

  • +2

not a deal indeed. Besides, they will hound you to get you to sign up.

  • +2

Garbage deal. Almost every gym in Australia offers their first week /x-amount of training sessions free. Even worse is that this is a deal from Finance First. You'll be hounded for months if they get your contact info.

  • +1

I see this as a good thing. Sure u can give them your real phone number- but who would? Looks like that old hotmail email account just came in handy!
One free week is still better than none.

    • bloody hell!
I just did..but I was going to join anyways since one of my friend goes for $10/week at FF, Deakin Canberra
I think that's the off peak though

    • agree

  • Not a deal! They will try to force you to sign up. Confirmed by friend!

    • +2

      get some will power!
or tiger blood as they call it over in the states

      • +1.

Most of you sound pretty weak. It's not that hard to say no and be INCREDIBLY rude, swear your nuts off if you have to. They won't call back.

  • Just say your having troubles with your girl and they will feel sorry for u and stop calling u! :D

    • If you want to get them to stop calling you just repeat this:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5l9gm4ymLw

    • No they won't. They'll try to convince you that if you get more fit and muscular, it'll solve all your relationship problems.

  • +1

Just yell at them on the phone, then apologise and blame the steriods you get at the other gym.

Then yell again and hang up.

  • Not worth the probable hard sell after the seven days.

  • LOL thanks for the vid link Radar.. had a laugh.

  • If they do contact you later
tell them you joined the gym to get your right arm stronger since you were were having relationship problems, and now you are back to your regular routine.

  • Give them the number to one of their franchise. Problem?

    • give them the number to fast food outlets

      • When customers used to piss the [mod: language] off of us and demand to speak to a supervisor for no reason at insert ISP I used to work for here, some of the guys used to transfer to pizza hut. :P

        • … I'm not quite sure about your grammar there, Ash ;)

        • I noticed that while I was typing, but thought eh, [mod: language] it. LOL
