Kmart Espresso Coffee Machine $89 @ Kmart

1010

Hi guys, got one of these last night, absolute bargain, and they'll sell out fast. It was featured in the Dailymail yesterday, so while this is the regular price, it's still a bargain.

Eh. This might be a good deal. Or it might sell out really soon because of the social media buzz only for people to realise after a week or so of actual use that it has numerous flaws.

Not saying it's not cheap or even not good - this is cheap enough you could probably take the risk, just caveat emptor.

    • +1

Have one sitting in the kitchen, build quality seems good for the price, it functions as a decent coffee maker, but doesn't include a grinder. For the money it's pretty damn good though.

      • Sounds like it's tiny though if you can't fit a mug or glass under it?

        • Even with the drip tray removed, yeah. Though I think Kmart sells cheap espresso glasses too.

  • +12

keep the box and receipt as you might wanna return this

  • +1

I bought one the other day. It's very plasticy and cheap build, but seems great for the price. I'm a pour over guy, but bought one just to play around with and it looks nice on my bench.

I haven't used it yet though.

  • +1

I bought the Aeropress deal yesterday. Tell me I made the right decision, please, somebody.

    • +7

Aeropress over this shitbox for sure.

      • Genuinely laughing out loud 👍

    • +7

I'm pleased to tell you your name doesn't apply to your Aeropress.

    • +2

Not even in the same league. Heck, not even the same product. This is like buying Toyota SUV and then TATA Motors coming out with a cheap sub-compact.

      • which one is worse?

        • +1

For their respective purposes, the Aeropress is the Toyota SUV. This Kmart machine is like… well this.

    • Depends if you like espresso or filter coffee. Aeropress coffee is great but you can't pull a shot of espresso with it. If you wanted a latte you're outta luck, if you wanted a great filter coffee experience then you're set.

  • +2

If kmart could sell it for more they would. It's only worth $89.

    A pod machine is better

    • +1

Agree, if it is worth $89 and is selling for $89, it's not a bargain as such?

    • +4

      The pod machine isn’t better.

      • I mean…. that depends on what coffee beans you use. Though if you're spending $89 on the coffee machine, what kind of coffee beans are you really going to be using?

        • +1

Lazzio beans of coarse from aldi! FTW

  • It was featured in the Dailymail(dailymail.co.uk) yesterday,

So we have a good idea about the intended demographic.

    • Trailer optional I suppose. But must be racist.

      • +1

Optional? But where will they live?

Kidding aside, that's a little harsh haha. I have friends who shop at Kmart just because they like the novelty of buying new stuff (and don't really expect anything to last too long anyway - they basically go through the stuff seasonally).

  • +11

    That reeks of kickback infomercial.
Why would the Dailymail run a genuine piece featuring false urgency about "Mums across Australia have gone wild" about a POS Kmart coffee maker? Where is the genuine story in that? Just like those interesting 'stories' about all the great deals on eBay that ACA do.
Basically just an ad pretending to be a story.
Its even got a Kmart online link right under that 'article'

    • +4

The dailymail is no stranger to doing this

    • +2

At least they have not censored the comments, which are largely negative.

      Poor kid Alice Murphy,
she dreamed of writing about human rights in Kyrgastan, or remote women's access to abortion in Australia.
But she got a job dishonestly plugging low quality consumer products.
This is the reality of 21st C "journalism".

      https://twitter.com/alicemurphy13?lang=en

      • The comments are hilarious(ly brutal). Though the bare-faced pandering with the "Femail" header in hot pink hahahahaha.

  • Might be a good one to learn off, I guess. See what you like and dislike before the big purchase. Easier to throw away $89 than $500 :)

lol I misread as Kmart Nespresso machine (was thinking, Kmart makes Nespresso now??).

    • They used to sell a compatible machine back in the day. I think i gave one to a distant cousin as an engagement gift (after seeing it on here for $29 haha)

      • I am still using the $29 coffee machine

  • +14

so while this is the regular price, it's still a bargain.

No this is an advertisment. Just like the
dailyfail dailymail piece. Post it when it drops below the RRP of $89

    • +1

Does this mean we can post other full priced items we think are a good deal? No?
      Not a bargain.

      • +1

Wait til the mods approve of this and everyone starts posting Kmart "bargains" from featured sites.

        Definitely not a bargain.

    • -2

Funny, I agree with your comment and neg the deal but moderator removes my comment and negative vote but your vote still counts…. This moderator sounds fishy to me

  • +2

I dropped in to kmart, but decided against as I don't think they will last long. Keep the receipt.

The small button that turns the pump on is likely to fail first, but the head/handle is very thin aluminium, and lots of plastic too.

From the appearance, I was expecting semi auto - pump stays on for a pre-set time, but there are no electronics. That could make it more reliable :)

Daily Mail quote says it all: 'I want one and I don't even drink coffee':
    Not a great recommendation :-)

Probably makes decent coffee. Until it breaks. Spend another $50 for a basic breville/sunbeam etc.

    • Probably makes decent coffee

Unlikely. Based solely off the pictures, I'm gonna guess it's got temperature swings that put Venus to shame.

This weeks Media Watch talks about the very topic of paid tech reviews on TV. Such a joke

    • Sometimes I find it surprising that people are oblivious to the fact that most things on TV and online are paid promotions. Like the Top 10 laptops in 2018 comparisons for example.

  • +10

RRP is not a bargain, this isn't OzValue

    • this isn't OzValue

Very likely neither is this coffee machine ha.

  • -2

Lots of opinions in here from people who not used machine. I've not either but it's a proper espresso machine and easily gonna outperform a pod machine for much less money per shot

    • +1

And your opinion is just one of the many as you also haven't got either.

      • It's the Ozbargain equivalent of people commenting on articles on Facebook without having read the article.

    • A lot of the comments are related to the price being RRP, not discounted.

Other comments are obviously opinions of the poster, for the information of others, to enable them to consider / decide.

    • but it's a proper espresso machine and easily gonna outperform a pod machine for much less money per shot

I'd definitely choose this over a pod machine.
Am just concerned it will no last long enough to be better value than a comparable Breville.

    • Lots of opinions in here from people who not used machine. I've not either but…

      Really?

  • +3

As this is Rrp and suggested by a group who get gifts from Kmart, I'd stay away from this machine until some one who isn't getting a free coffee machine from this does a review.

Look at this mediawatch story from last year to get a picture of what is happening : http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/episodes/the-power-of-kmart…

  • +3

So we're basically listing a paid review spot in the daily mail (of all rags) as a bargain now?

  • Normal price is not a bargain.

    • Yes, as stated in the first post. Just a heads up.

  • +5

I think I have found the machine on alibaba

    https://m.alibaba.com/amp/product/50038464871.html?spm=a2706…

    • Oh nice find. Yeah - looks identical including the position of the dial/lights/buttons. Kmart can't be making that much though, since it's not that much cheaper if you go USD -> AUD, and then add shipping and overheads.

Edit: Actually scratch that. That's around $64AUD per unit, which means a full 50% margin.

    • +1

Looks to be the same, and US $43 - 45 / Unit, Min. Order 600 Units

    • +1

Damn. The resemblance is uncanny, including the drip tray

      • +1

It seems like quite a lot of the items that kmart sells can be found on alibaba. I'd imagine they would probably consult with multiple vendors, test the unit, certify the unit for the Australian / New Zealand standards and then get all the packaging customised for them.

I'd also imagine since they are ordering probably more than 10,000 units, they are probably getting a greater discount than the 43 usd price.

        • Seems to be a perfectly good way to do business.

I don't have a problem with some things at Kmart, but I pick and choose based on my assessment of the product's value to me.

  • +1

This is not a post. This is an ad.

And OP has gone quiet with all the negs flying around.

  • Let me guess, this is gonna sell out because the bogans on the 'Kmart Mums' facebook page are fawning all over it.
Cheap junk, like nearly everything Kmart sells. And this is the RRP. Avoid.

  • +1

Does this only come with pressurised baskets to compensate for the lack of power in the machine?

  • +1

    Regular price on OzB?
