I just grabbed one of these and was about to post. Amazon also have GT sport for $12 and Worlds for $20.99, so the whole package would be $231.99. Great price even if it the V1 headset.

    • +1

Info added to OP. Thank you

  • noob questions: with a few VR2 deal out there, is it worth to get VR1 at this price? would that be a significance difference with the experience between VR1 or 2? tempted to get the VR at cheap price…

    • +4

The only real difference is whether you have a a HDR enabled TV. If you do that means you have to switch the HDMI cable around to get HDR on your TV (or buy a HDMI switch)
The v2 also has built in earphones whereas the V1 they plug in just a bit further down the cord. That part really doesn't matter at all.
Otherwise the experience and hardware is identical.

      • +2

I'm not familiar with the VR hardware. When you say 'switch around' when end of which HDMI cable is getting switched from what to what when needed?

I don't have an HRD display, but likely to be upgrading in the next couple of months, so this consideration is important deciding on whether VR1 or VR2. Then again, I'm still not sure I need VR!

    • -1

Apart from HDR, if you have a ps4 pro you may experience issues with 4K working as PS VR1 box will limit the resolution, so if you want HDR and 4k output you will either require PS VR2 or plug your ps4 hdmi directly into your TV if you aren't using VR

      • 4K works fine through the PSVR V1, it's only HDR, not the resolution that is effected.
        I have a Pro and a 4K TV with a V1 PSVR.

        • +1

Well that's not the case for me, i also have both but with ps vr it limits the colour output to YUV420 which is personally quite noticeable as it's primarily used for older displays compared to 4K RGB colour output which is for newer displays. So while yes you technically may have a 4K option, passing it though PS VR1 limits the overall colour which doesn't look good.

        • @Raceking23: oh I know what you mean, that's actually a problem with your HDMI cable. I've read other had that issue. I used my HDMI from my Xbox One S and never had the issue.

        • +1

@Where's_That_Cake: yeah i have tried other hdmi cables but it is actually the box, Sony have even outlined it as a limitation of PSVR https://www.playstation.com/en-au/get-help/help-library/syst…

        • @Raceking23: I have a PSPro / PSVR1 with a 4K TV (Hisense), initial cables I was using didn't work, replaced with "4K" cables and passthrough on 4K works perfectly now.

        • @unique452: yeah that's why I believe my Xbox One S cables worked as they're 4k compliant as well.

        • +1

@unique452: as the Sony article @Raceking23 posted says, the best you can get for video passing through the V1 processor unit is 4K YUV420. That's even with the most expensive high quality cables available.

This is an encoding that uses six bytes of data to represent four pixels. Each of the four pixels has an independent luminance value (i.e. grey), and then the remaining two bytes set the colour for all the four pixels. One way to think of this is combining 4K greyscale with 1080p colour information.

In contrast, RGB encoding will have three bytes of data for each pixel. So that's double the information in a YUV420 signal.

    • +4

Also worth pointing out that the cord going from the processing box to your head is a lot thinner and lighter on the V2. Not a huge thing, but the V1 cord definitely used to weigh me down after a while.

  • +3

Price is obviously lower than the existing deals due to VR1 but it also includes a free camera

I believe the 'PlayStation VR Worlds Bundle' come with a camera.

  • What is it like to watch BD movies on this?

    • Pretty terrible. Better off just watching them on your TV.

    • It's better to watch them on a normal screen, but I found watching 3D blu rays was much more enjoyable than watching them on my tv (keeping in mind that my tv is about 8 years old). I felt the 3D was much less blurry and it felt much more immersive than sitting in your living room. Probably aided by the fact that you the screen follows you wherever you look.

      • What device can play 3D blu ray? I thought the PS4 couldn't do it?

        • PS4 can't play 4k movies because firmware limitation, but 3d is fine.

        • @couger: I just googled it. They didn't launch with the ability to play 3D. Sony said the TV division was no longer pushing 3D like they were in the PS3's lifecycle, so they didn't bother. But they patched it in July 2014. I wonder if it can play 3D games, not that they exist on PS4.

        • @lostn:
All the Zombie Army Trilogy and
Sniper Elite games made by Rebellion Development are 3D compatible.

      • I felt the 3D was much less blurry

Using a HMD to display steroescopic 3D content avoids a whole bunch of visual issues that occur with glasses since each eye has it's own display rather than alternately flashing an image for each eye on one display.

      • can you watch 3d sbs movies in mkv format with the PSVR?

        • I don't believe so, but apparently you can load videos into the Little Star VR app. Might have to convert it from an MKV though

    • Asking the question people are afraid to ask…can you watch VR porn using this?

EDIT: I see it has already been asked

  • +4

Sorry where does it say bonus free camera? Can't find it on the mobile site

    • +3

About to ask the same. Where says camera?

Edit: found it on full site

    • +1

Just add both items to cart and price of camera gets taken out on checkout. There's an expandable "Special Offers…" link you can click a little under the "Add to Cart" button.

    • I placed an order last night assuming the camera was part of the purchase of the headset rather than being a separate promotion item that needs to be added to your cart. I just finished speaking to Amazon support and they got me to place an order for the camera and they adjusted the price to $0.00 for me, so if anyone else had this problem, definitely get onto support and they should help you out.

Maybe OP could also add to the description that both the headset and camera need to be added to the cart using the promo link in the headset listing.

  • Does making a new Amazon account still give $15-20 voucher to use ?

    • +2

      No

  • Does HN price match Amazon AU? Thinking to get this and some games to use Amex promo

    • They don't. Just ended a live chat with them.

  • Nice! Does anyone have any good tips for where to pickup two Move Controllers as well? Amazon is $142 which is way too much… should I just search eBay/Gumtree?

  • +14

Holy shit, am I proud I sold my set for 350 the other week.

Just rebought another because I don't (profanity) learn. Cheers OP.

  • +1

Can PS VR be used on the PC?

I have a PS4 Pro but I'm wondering how much use this will have on the PC.

    • -3

      No it cannot

      • +5

Yes with 3rd party software and a PS3 camera.

        • +3

I stand corrected. Yes you can now.

    • +1

May I know what's the use of using it on PC? To watch movies?

      • +1

I was thinking of using it as a cheap alternative to Oculus or Vive. There are a lot of fun indie VR projects that aren't on the PS4.

However I did some research, tho it is possible, it just seems like a pain in the a$$ to even get it working.

        • +1

It's not too bad. Less of a pain than my Oculus has been.

        • +1

Yeah to be fair, any VR headset on PC is a pain. My Oculus spent more time not working that working.

  • +3

Holy shit, what an absolute steal! Even for a V1 that's instant-buy territory.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, great price.

  • I am really interested in this PSVR system but I wish I could try before hand

I get motion sickness from FP games so I don’t play them

I’m wondering how a VR headset which is all FP games would go on me

    • Just avoid fast motion games like racers etc. FPS games should be fine.

      • They can make you sick like any other game. I've gotten off of Farpoint once or twice feeling a bit off.

    • VR isn't all first person titles, there's plenty games out there that aren't, just have a look around. Some like Superhot VR don't have any locomotion at all and wouldn't make you sick, look up some gameplay

      • If I look up some gameplay on my phone and stick it in a phone VR Headset will this be able to tell me if I’m gonna get sick or not?

        • It's not the same at all unfortunately. You should be fine bro.

        • Nah man, that won't work because the viewpoint wouldn't be moving with your head like it would in the game.

Personally at $200 I'd take the punt, as that's basically resale value already.

The trick with VR in particular is to start with very forgiving and comfortable games, I'd just say that goes double for you.

        • @OfTheOverflow:

Is V2 much better? Can I also use it for watching movies like the Sony Headset that was just made for movies that they don’t make anymore?

Also would RE7 be a good game for me?

        • @Twisty: RE7 is the only game I want to play on VR

        • @Twisty:I only have V1, and the only feature of V2 that I particularly want (not need) is the HDR passthrough. As long as you don't mind occasionally swapping the HDMI port from the VR breakout box to your TV if you want HDR it's all hooked up, then you're golden.

The ability to watch movies in VR is more of a gimmick; the resolution is perceptibly lower than a normal TV but you might get a kick out of it. RE7 has artificial locomotion, but with the comfort settings it comes with pre-enabled, you can likely swallow it.

    • I’m wondering how a VR headset which is all FP games would go on me

From my own experience and reading others it's important to stop as soon as you notice any motion sickness. VR motion sickness is wierd in that when you stop it doesn't get worse but it stays for hours - you don't want to be really sick for hours, a little sick is OK.

Do a little each day until you notice any motion sickness and stop, you quickly become used to it and can play longer.

Different game types cause differing motion sickness effects though, so playing Dirt Rally as a first game is probably not advised, better to start with Moss or something like this.

      • Same thing happens to me when I go on that spinny thing at the playground, I feel off for hours. I'm surprised to hear you say that you can build up a tolerance for the motion sickness. I didn't know that was possible - interesting.

      • There's a trick to it that will get you in your VR legs in no time.

1/ run a fan so you can feel the air gently on your face whilst using it (this will also help with perspiration on your face which also happens unless you're in a cold room!)

        2/ ginger tablets!

VR sickness is basically the same as sea sickness. Remedies for one will help with the other. You'll develop your VR legs in no time.

    • Depends on the person. I have PSVR and PCVR, both make me sick after around 10 minutes, but it's a fun 10 minutes!

  • VR Worlds $29.99 to me?where is $20.99?

    • Price has changed.

  • +4

Really on the fence with this one. Would like the built in headphones of V2 but wouldn't want to pay much more than this for VR..
So I'll probably just think about it and then miss all the deals.

  • +3

Can I use it for watching….?

    • +3

      YES YOU CAN!!

    • …..prom?

      • -1

        dealpoolporn?

  • If you read the review it says its the old 2016 version so the headphone port is on the volume control switch that's located halfway down the cable.

    • +1

If that and the cable situation is worth $100 to you then go for the V2 I guess.

      • +1

Just got V2 and look's like way less cables and easier setup. Less chance of accidentally disconnecting. Imo probably worth paying extra for but might buy it for a mate.

      • -1

Actually it was only $30-$40 more expensive if you were after the bundle PSVR(V2) + VR Worlds + GT Sport with this deal:

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/404127

        V2 benefits

        -Saves a hdmi port
-Don't have to buy a hdmi switch extra cables
-Don't have to manually turn switch or plug cables in/out especially in hard to reach areas
        -Less cable tangle
-Thinner/softer main cable with no vol/power/earphone box weighing it down
-Headset now has the earphone jack in it
-Comes with earphones that fit the headset perfectly (no extra hanging cables getting in the way for the earphones)
-Potentially limiting the colour output to YUV420 as per:

  • Are these any fun? or will i get sick of it quickly?

    • Should be able to pull plenty of fun… And then sell for 100 when done.

      • +3

Im thinking to sell it for near $199 when im done with it. lol.

        • Exactly.

        • While that would be ideal, I'm already seeing a few new listings for this exact bundle on eBay for around $240 from some people looking to make a quick buck.

You can bet there'll be more and the price would probably go lower. I reckon these will be available brand new on eBay pretty cheaply for a while yet.

  • +1

    Thanks OP instant buy.

  • -3

Hmm is Sony gonna come out with a new version soon?

  • +2

187 with cashrewards… god bless OP

  • +1

    Unreal price.

  • +2

    Stoked. 240.99 well spent.

    • +2

Probably with GT Sport ($12) and VR Worlds ($23)

  • +2

Seems like everything related to PS4 is on sale except the actual damn console.

    • lucky i jumped on the amazon prime sale! and i still have prine.

  • @tinnybastard: how did u spend $240.99?

    • VR headset + Camera + GT Sport + VR Worlds.

      • Very nice. Meanwhile I'm one of the suckers who paid full price for GT Sport at launch. fml.

        • Same, last time I buy a GT game. The World moved on.

  • seems like a waste without the move controllers, maybe ill have a crack when i can get VR + controllers for 200

    • +1

There are quite a few games you can play with the normal controller.

  • +2

Btw make sure you click on add both to cart (PSVR + Camera) rather than just the PSVR. Then it takes the cost of the camera out in checkout. Otherwise it doesn't add the camera automatically. Had to cancel the first order and order again with the camera.

    • I had to do the same thing myself. Assumed the camera was included, I do my ozbargainning at work so I don't have time to pay enough attention.
As long as it hasn't been shipped Amazon should happily cancel.

      • You can cancel it yourself btw. Just go to your orders and you should see an option there to cancel.

        • I couldn't, even though it was before dispatch, there was definitely no cancel option. Bit strange but online chat did it for me anyway.

  • +1

Heavens to Betsy! What a bargain. You do also want the 2 move controllers and an Aim controller to cover the best experiences such as the amazeballs Firewall Zero Hour.

    • Nice use of "heavens to betsy" one of my favourite jocular exclamations

  • What's the use of the camera? Do you need it for any VR games? Just wondering if I'd ever use it or just sell it to bring down the price of the VR headset
