PlayStation 5 Pro Console Trade-in Offers: e.g. EB World Plus Level 4 $599 with PS5 Disc & 2 PS5 Games Trade-in @ EB Games

360

Pre-order level trade-ins for the PS5 Pro are back and with more console trade in options.
Slightly different offer where instead of any 4 games, it's just 2 games on the trade in platform.
Although the XBX trade in doesn't specifically mention XBX games…
No mention of ANY games, so it's possible games may need to be over the usual EB trade-in $10 limit to qualify.

the list is simply overwhelming… what the heck is this EB world and plus shit…

BTW the pro was a joke/r

    • EB World is a free membership. Plus is a paid membership (will likely pay for itself using this deal). Levels are early by spending money at EB.

  • +4

we need pro , pro max to fill the list. faster and stronger

  • +4

PS5 Pro is not much better compared to PS5. In GT7 and FF7R the difference is hardly noticeable.

    • +9

I’m with you on GT7, but if you can’t see a big difference with FF7 you need to get your eyes checked or invest in a new TV.

      • +1

Yeah, absolute huge difference! I got one release, and while its not quite the jump in quality I was promised, it definately improves some games by quite a bit!

    • +2

Big difference to GT7 playing in VR

      • -1

Interested to know more. Have PSVR2 and was underwhelmed by the visual quality (compared to as touted in now I think paid reviews) on PS5

        • +2

https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-7-on-ps5-pro-review/ - VR specific stuff mentioned halfway down the page. Big upgrade to how it feels in the headset, with the trade off of a bit of artifacting around HUD elements if you have those turned on.
It's still never going to be as sharp as playing on a flat screen, but immersion is more than worth it for me.

          • @McFodder: Will take a look. Thanks mate.

            • @thegreatermamba: Was editing in when you replied - If you've already got the headset but don't own GT7, I'd have to check and see if the free 'My First Gran Turismo' got the same upgrade.

    • Do you have 120hz oled?

    • Bruh there's a huge difference in FF7R, GT7 on the other hand, not alot.

    • +8

You get a trade in value of appeox. $600 for a 4 or 5 year old PS5. That's the appeal of this deal.

    • +5

You’re getting $500 - $600 trade in value on a console that is potentially over 4 years old and had 1000’s hours of use and cost $750 at launch. Doesn’t sound like much of a rip off to me?

By your own logic, why buy into the PlayStation ecosystem at $1200 when PS5 Digital’s have regularly been as low as $500-$550?

Someone that has had a PS5 since launch and uses this trade in deal on a Pro, at least say level 3, has invested around $1400 on hardware, has the latest hardware and has been in the ecosystem for over 4 years. You “held out” all this time, missed out on 4 years worth of gaming and have a $1200 hardware investment.

      • +9

the trade in value is good, but the price of the PS5 Pro itself is still a rip off.

        • +1

And then sourcing the additional disc drive is criminal for a "Pro" version

          • +1

@solidussnake: Yup, it should have been 1k max including the drive.

      • +1

People don't spare 5 minutes of their lives to do some maths before posting. EB Games is paying from $340 to $415 for a switch first gen that barely is worth $200 for example. People come and say "ThIS iS A rIP OfF" without elaborate further.

    • +1

Does is seem like a rip off? They are paying a good amount of $$ for each console, way better than try to sell it locally and get less money and deal with hundreds of scammers.

    • The EB console trade in is best done at the beginning, i.e. pre-order for launch day. You didn't need to have EB World Plus (though that does give you more EB carrot points). You also get to enjoy PS5 Pro earlier. I did have to buy four second hand $1 games to do the trade in (didn't want to trade in good games).

The OG PS5 and XBox Series X pre-order trade-in deals were even better. I basically paid $50 for an OG PS5 (did trade in PS4 Pro, games and an extra controller) and $100 for Series X (traded in One X and games). Back then, it was possible to stack EB world level bonus (and for the lucky few, birthday bonus). The guy next to me walked out with $930 worth of EB World credit after the PS5 trade-in (he did trade-in lots of PS4 games). Staff was trying hard to sell him PS5 games.

  • Not worth it.

  • -1

Great info thanks OP! I've got a PS5 Slim and took advantage of the EB Trade deal for PS5 + 2 games + $150 when the opportunity came along and I'm very happy to stick with it…the Pro can collect dust on the store shelves for all I care.

  • +12

I still cannot believe these 'Pro' models launched without a disc drive. I could understand the povo model launching without one (and still hate that), but it's unthinkable that they would omit it from the (much) more expensive version of the console.

This is coming from someone who bought a PS4 Pro on launch day.

    • +6

Wow I didn't realise they were diskless by default.

      That's actually ridiculous.

Sony really is such an incredible idiot company.

And I've owned and STILL OWN every PlayStation up until the PS5 pro (minus the PS4 pro)

    • I'd have bought one for sure if they included a disc drive on launch, so does feel like Sony made a mistake there. That said, I kinda like that we're getting back to the days of the Sega CD for your Mega Drive… Modular consoles defeat the purpose I guess, but I sure do love an accessory

  • +1

PS5 pro or 5070? Which is more gimmicky

    • completely different product…. plays both on PC and ps. hardly can I say which one is better….

      • plays? i just want to know which is more waste of my money

        • +2

pc surely, as you will need to buy a whole rig plus peripherals. ps works out better for pure gaming and it's much more straightforward to simply sit in couch and play.

        • +1

5070, it will go done right after 6xxx launch and then further down on 7xxx, and most likely only being used to play DOTA

    • -1

With 5070, ALL games can run in 60fps. With PS5 Pro, you have to wait for game devs to unlock them.

      • PS5 fanboy negging me

  • +2

Trade on ps5 to get ps5 pro and lose out on the disc capability too…what is wrong with people, who would bother with this?

    • +2

My OG was showing early signs of failure (artifacting, freezing).
Although not regular, enough to concern me that it will eventually fail completely sooner rather than later.

Why wouldn't I make use of this deal?
Why should I buy another PS5 when I could get the PS5 pro for the same price or even less?

I've never said the PS5 Pro is worth the RRP.
I'd never buy the PS5 Pro at RRP or even on a slight special.
It's a stupid amount of money for little advancement and more importantly, no disc drive.

So with every other deal that appears on OzBargain, some may work for you, some won't.
This trade in offer is a fantastic deal for those that can make use of it.

  • +1

wait so if i trade in a ps5 with 2 games, i get $577 EB credit towards a ps5 pro? which is $1200?

    • Depending on your EB level

    • I think the dollar values listed there are the different prices you actually have to pay after the trade in for each tier of EB World memberships (with and without Plus).

  • I’m on level 4 if anyone is thinking of trading and save the cash. Located in melbourne

  • do they need a controller to go with the trade in PS5 ?

    • Everything the PS5 came with, so controller, USB-C cable, Hdmi cable and power cable

    • No, but you will probably need to buy the disc drive separately if you want to play your disc games.

      • He meant for the trade-in, whether it is just the PS5 console or everything needs to be included.

PS5, controller, HDMI cable, USB-C cable, power cable all need to be provided / given to EB games, otherwise EB will deduct some amount for the trade-in. Store staff generally will do a basic power on test. I had the original box so I included that (but it was more easier to carry the lot in the box).

  • +1

Recently did this trade and went smooth. Just bought a couple cheap games from JB ~$20 together, Exoprimal and BF 2042, I asked them about it and they said there wasn't any exclusions on any games so seems you can bring in whatever games.

    • +2

Yeah when I did my trade in I went and got two brand new copies of Let's Sing ABBA (Big W $5 at the time) and traded them both in. There's no conditions so I saved like $90 ish for spending $10.

  • Treating customers like characters in an RPG.

  • +3

getting a ps5 pro is stupid, you have to pay for a stand and a disc drive. People that have the OG PS5 actually did well for 700 to 800 bucks for the disc version because it comes with a stand and disc drive!! lol.

    • +2

I’m fine with not including the stand, but the lack of a DISC DRIVE is what really grinds my gears with the PS5 Pro.
This was absolutely idiotic and I can’t wait for the Pro to drop in price and/or get bundled with a disc drive.

      • +2

There is no competition for PS5 Pro yet. Sony is not subsiding PS5 Pros (so Sony wants to make a profit).
The disc drive availability situation appears to be sorted for now so the only issue remaining is the price.

        • +2

It’s not even a subsidy thing.
The PS5 started turning a profit around 2022 anyway (albeit a small one, but that has probably grown over time), and the Pro is at this price because of rapid inflation and rate hikes keeping the PS5’s price the same, unlike when the PS4 Pro pushed the PS4’s price down.
Without a disc drive, the PS5 Pro is competing against PCs in general. If you’re going to pay $1200 for a Pro that can only play digital games, you may as well spend $300 more for a MUCH better PC with all the qualities that make up a PC (open bootloaders, various storefronts for digital games, modding and community, no online subs for paid games, it goes on).

          • +1

@FujinShu: It is a subsidy thing (you indicated if it is $999 with disc drive, it would sell really well). PS5 needs to sell well enough to have a big enough player base and had to compete with Series X|S. PS5 Pro doesn't. Sony knows PS4 Pro only made up of 12% of total PS4 + PS4 Pro user base. PS4 Pro had to compete with XBox One X. PS5 Pro, Sony is only targeting 10-12% user base.

The disc drive is also not an Apple to Apple comparison. People hardly buy a disc drive for PCs now. If you were to buy a UHD blu-ray disc drive for PC, how much is that going to cost? Because there is so little demand on that, it will cost more. Furthermore, UHD blu-ray playback on PC is a pain.

Think about it, Sony goes to AMD and asks for a GPU that can do AI upscaling and only willing to buy 1/10 of PS5's volume, AMD won't give Sony a good rate. Also, Sony Playstation is about exclusives (or honestly, it is more like timed exclusives).

Pro can play physical games, just need to cough up $160 for the disc drive. It was fine to whinge about it last year (since it was a pain to get one). Now, due to lack of demand on PS5 Pro, you can get a disc drive from JB. Majority of PS5 Pro owners in Australia would have bought or will buy the disc drive. Let's also not make it sound like AMD and nVidia are saints. It's crazy PC GPU prices have gone up recently. Not seeing RTX 5000 series causing older GPU prices to skydive.

      • +4

enjoy your expensive games on the ps store lol physical is always cheaper always.

        • +2

I reckon most PS5 games (even physical copies) are overpriced.

Always cheaper? How about [PS5] Spiderman 2 Digital JPN PSN Req ~A$10.68? Happy to buy Spiderman 2 physical copy for $10.67 or less, let me know where to buy one.

          • +2

@netsurfer: you won't get that price on any Australian store including the PS Australian store I don't care about international copies.

          • +2

@netsurfer: Yaeh I'm good with not having to have 5 different PSN accounts and having to login/out when I wanna change game.

Also I can sell my physical copies, you can't.

            • +1

@SuBw00FeR: You don't need to login/logout to change game. The JP PSN account is only needed to initiate the install of the game. I play Spiderman 2 on my AU PSN account. In fact, I pretty much only play on my AU PSN account.

              • @netsurfer: Oh that's true actually I do remember that. It's not so bad then.

                • @SuBw00FeR: Yeah, same for GamePass Ultimate, I reckon a lot of OZBers are still on Turkey GamePass Ultimate (that was an awesome deal). PS Plus Extra is the same (though for PS Plus Deluxe, trial games can only be played from the account that has the subscription).

Clearly it was silly / shrewd for Sony to omit the disc drive and not having enough disc drives in stock last year. However, there have been some good digital deals. I have Uncharted 4 PS4 digital and physical editions (collector's edition). The upgrade to PS5 version for $15 was not bad. Having digital edition means I don't have to change discs when playing different games.

Spiderman 2 for $10.68 is alright. I just couldn't be bothered waiting for a good deal on physical version and then have to quickly play it and then trade it in.

                  • @netsurfer: If I can't find a good deal I just "rent" it from EB and go ham on it for a week then take it back haha.

And yeah I'm still on that Turkey gamepass too haha

                    • @SuBw00FeR: Because I bought it for $10.68, I only played a few hours and then straight to the pile of shame.

Need to play physical games first so I can trade them in quickly. LOL…

  • Looking forward to trade my PS5 to NS2.

    HODL.

    • +1

      That seems like a downgrade.

      • Not gonna continue with PS Plus, so basically just non-online functionality for my PS5 at this moment.

  • +2

    Wait… so

    PS5 Pro, for your PS5 Disc console + two PS5 games + $599???

    • PLUS , you need to be in EB World Plus Level 4 :)

      • Lmao

What kind of a deal is this bs

  • +1

Me thinks that Sony is struggling to move these. JB has trade in bonus deal as well atm.

    • +1

The lack of disc drive is the kicker. If the drives were available day one I probably woulda bought one, but now I'm having second thoughts about even bothering with the Pro.

      • +2

Not even that, the Pro should’ve had a disc drive to begin with.
If it was AU$999 with a disc driver, that would absolutely fly off the shelves in comparison, but even the normal price of $1199 would be fine if it still came with a disc drive, and you could buy it without the disc drive for $999.

  • +1

    Hard pass

  • +1

For those considering the trade in, may as well join Plus since the cost difference between with and without plus is a few dollars more than the annual sub of Plus ($49). I guess that was their aim all along.

It does look like retailers are finding it hard to move units of PS5 Pro. If only there are more competition in the console arena (Phil Spencer pretty much declared it's over for the Xbox).

    • Not sure whether 3 months sub of Plus for $25 is still available (must purchase in store). If yes, that might be worth considering. Apparently some people were offered 3 months sub of Plus for free as part of PS5 Pro pre-order trade-in deal.

    • We still have PCs and the Nintendo Switch.
At this point, the PS5 Pro without a disc drive is competing against PCs that offer a far better value proposition than that.

  • +1

What's the matter EB? Not as much interest in the Pro as you anticipated? Piss-take of a console. Sony can fk right off with this one. Imagine upgrading from the "Amateur" and not noticing any visual improvement. It's nothing but a flex.

    • +3

EB runs these type of deals every year. As usual, PS5 Pro console launch pre-order trade-in deal was slightly better (since you don't need EB World Plus to get the best trade in amount). It's also unclear whether EB will enforce 2 PS5 games this time or accept PS4, XB1 games as well (the launch day pre-order deals, you could trade in dirt cheap PS4 games ($1 ones)).

PS5 Pro consoles are overpriced (because $ony is not subsiding these and wants to make a profit on these). Another issue is Sony obviously can't get a good deal from AMD this time (because Sony wants PSSR / AI upscaling and Sony knows PS5 Pros won't sell like hot cakes).

The fact this deal is somewhat inferior to the launch day pre-order deal shows both Sony and EB don't give a damn. Both of them care more about selling games.

      • -1

Don't you just love how PS5 Pro owners act like they're an elite part of society? Like, relax bro, you haven't reached the pinnacle of human achievement. You've purchased a console that your brain is convincing you looks better than the perfectly functioning PS5 that you traded it in for to justify your decision.

        • +2

You're the one who clicked in here and starting talking crap about a product you clearly don't want (and don't want anyone else to have for….reasons?)

There are games that are definitely noticeably improved on the Pro. And yes, my PS5 I traded in was functioning perfectly, but it was also 4 years old. If EB wanted to give me most of what I paid for it back, I wasn't going to complain.

  • I did these deals last time around (traded my disc PS5 for the Pro) and I'm so satisfied. I've never had the best console on the market before, and I couldn't be happier with what the Pro offers. Framerates are buttery smooth, every Pro-enhanced game runs flawlessly, and the AI upscaling of PS4 games (especially sharpness of text prompts and GUI) really gives old-gen stuff a noticeable and worthwhile coat of polish.

On top of this I actually get a huge amount of enjoyment from these comment sections telling me how incredibly stupid I am and how ripped off I got. There's nothing quite as satisfying as being 1000% happy with a product that has a bunch of non-owners dirtying their nappies.

  • I traded 2 OG PS5 disc editions one unopened for a PS5 Pro…How does that make you feel? I laugh when people whinge and complain about the price but end of the day its still cheaper than a decent PC Graphics Card without all the hassles…You just turn it on, select the game and press play. You can't beat that simplicity. I Happily pay that money so i don't have to worry about whether my Graphics Card is going to support the latest games. Plug N Play for the win baby…

  • Do I need to give one controller too with the trade in? How does it work?

    • +1

You need to include everything if you want the full trade-in amount. So, the console (PS5), controller, power cable, HDMI cable, and the USB-C cable. EB games staff will most likely do a quick power on test. You probably want to reset the console beforehand. Make sure you remove your m.2/NVMe SSD if you had one installed.

Also, don't forget the 2 games. They also make up of a substantial part of the trade in amount.

  • What if I trade in a Series X and a PS5 Disc?

    • You just use one of the trade specials and the other console would be at normal trade-in prices (ie. not worth it)

  • +2

I recently did this and have noticed a real difference in quality. I got a disc drive too. I played my original release day PS5 for 1000s of hours, I have a great TV and I play a lot so to me it was worth it. Obviously if you don't play a lot or have a decent display it's not worth it.

  • To those defending their purchase of the PS5 Pro…

Graphics wise, isn't it just splitting hairs over the PS5?

    • With certain games there are big improvements, a lot of others not so much.

I used this trade in to get rid of an older console for maximum value in return for a brand new one (albeit more powerful and missing a disc drive).
Net cost for PS5 Pro and a disc drive was under $700 (Slim can be had for between $5-700 on sale)
