2018 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GLX Automatic $44,990 Driveaway + Free $2,000 Fuel Card @ Mitsubishi Motors

531

Came across the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GLX 5 seater model in Automatic for $44,990 Driveaway. It also comes with a free $2,000 fuel voucher. Most of us savvy OzBargainers should be able to negotiate a bit more on this price.

It comes with Mitsubishi's 5 year warranty, 4 year road side assistance and 3 years capped price servicing included.

Normally this car is priced at for $46,000 (without any on-roads cost - registration, stamp duty etc).

This car hasn’t been really updated in 30 years. If you can deal with that, buy it.

    • +6

What? Its based on the new triton.

      • +1

New Triton based on previous Triton but best value for japenese quality

    • +2

Wow, you're right. It's like looking at the same car! The 1988 must have been pretty futuristic.

      Pajero 1988 vs Pajero 2018

    • +1

Are you talking about Pajero or Pajero Sport? Different models.

    • +1

Pajero Sport is not a Pajero.
Confusing name but maybe smart marketing.

      • They definitely need smart marketing to sell it with those ugly tail lights lol

        • Can't argue about the tail lights. I think someone best described them like a sad crying clown face.

      • -2

I'm always under the impression the "sport" model is always superior than the base model when it comes to cars. Is this not the case?

        • +1

Completely different models. Pajero Sport is the newer model, smaller, lighter and cheaper than the old Pajero.

        • -1

@edfoo: ….how can a "sports" model be cheaper than the base model?

        • +1

@Homr: I know what you're saying, but there are a few examples where the "Sport" version is a size class down. Discovery and Range Rover springs to mind.

        • +2

@Homr: There is no "base" model. Pajero is older, bigger 4WD from Mitsubishi. It has the same range of model - GLX, GLS and Exceed. GLX being the base model. Pajero Sport is a smaller 4WD with the same range GLX, GLS and Exceed again.

        • @edfoo: I see, I just realized that this is only a 5 seater where the Prajero that I've always known has 8 seats.

This is not good value as I thought it was.

        • oops replied to wrong one

      • Pajero Sport is a revamp of the old Challenger (the same lineage ….. ie Triton based wagon)
Pajero is a completely different beast.

      • Not sure if it is smart marketing when the name of the model translates to tosser in Spanish. Note: didn't want to use the actual translated word.

      • The Pajero sport is the replacement for the Challenger which competes in the same market segment as Mux, everest, fortuner etc which are also based on their ute sibling.
Way back there was also a Pajero io which was a soft roader.

  • can I buy it off you second hand for 10k less?

    • I got 17 Exceed model for less than $39k from used car dealer, but it has done 30000km though.

  • I hired this car a while back, and honestly one of the worst implementation of cruise mode

    • How so?
The stupid thing is the twist to speed up or slow down which I find extremely "vague".
My G6 has a digital speedo and the set speed shows up as a number on the dash and each up or down press of a button changes speed by 1KMh, genius, duh.

  • these are good value but I find the Prados are the best value for money in this category, ymmv though

  • any deal on PHEV ?

  • +1

    Thanks, bought 4.

    • +1

Keeping up with the Joneses aye?

  • Is this a good deal? Mainly for my wife to pick up the kids from school.
Seems safer than driving a normal sedan. Maybe get this with a bull bar as well.

    • It's a good starting point. Obviously you can negotiate a bit more if you check the dealership stock. A friend of mine paid $46,500 (no accessories) earlier this year but since then, there is a whole lot more stock at the dealers.

    • +10

For school runs also consider a lift kit and spotties

    • If you want your wife to be a soccer mum, better get an SUV instead. More comfortable on road.

    • +2

lots of Kangaroo's at school?… lol

    • +2

      Are you serious?

A bigger car is safer, sure, but if all you're doing is picking the kids up from school, why in gods name would you buy an ugly, enormous, bad on fuel off-road vehicle? Not only that, but it's VERY expensive.

Buy a lightly used Forester/CX5 or something if all you want is safety and picking kids up from school. You don't need a bullbar to do this.

p.s. sedans are incredibly safe. If you are mostly highway driving, you are more likely to be involved in a high-speed accident, and yes, a bigger car will keep you safer. At school run speeds, there's not much difference between a hatchback and a giant Landcrusier or similar.

You could spend 20k and accomplish your goals here. Hell, you could spend 5k and get a nice Subaru Outback and accomplish your goals.

      • But his kids will be embarrassed to be seen inside a boring old ugly Subaru ;)

        • +1

Then he should teach his kids not to be little shits ;)

    • The Pajero Sport is a proper 4WD. It drives like a 4WD. If you need to brake, swerve etc a sedan or SUV will be safer as they will probably have firmer suspension, will have a lower centre of gravity, more road-orientated tyres, and will simply handle better. A steel bullbar might help if you crash into someone, but won't make a difference in any other situation (in fact it would probably make things worse due to the effect of the extra weight on the stock suspension). Simply put, I don't think it's "safer" for school runs.

For what it's worth I do own a 2018 Pajero Sport GLS and I love it, but you can't escape its 4WD underpinnings - it drives like a 4WD. If you have no intention on taking off road then quite frankly there's cheaper, better and no less safe cars for you to buy.

  • Or buy a 2K used car and save 40+K

    • +2

Or buy $100 bike from K-Mart? Or just walk?

      • nahhh, Heelys!

      • Nah..better buy a skateboard, it got 4 wheels to drive.

  • +2

Something for Subaru drivers to overtake…
Ask any Spanish speaker about the meaning of Pajero…

  • I'd rather drive a Great Wall ANYTHING than be seen driving, or within 5 metres of a Pajero

  • Unless things have recently changed, I don't think the 3 years capped price servicing is included. It's a fixed-price option at extra cost.

I'm not a fan of the new Pajero, much prefer the older model.

    • 3 year capped price servicing not included? What does Google tell you?

      • Google keeps asking me if i'm feeling lucky….

        • It's telling you to go to the casino.

      • That I, apparently, need funeral insurance

        • Old and demented? O.o

        • @edfoo:

          Not old but definitely demented

  • I acknowledge this might be a bargain (thats debatable) but i do not have 45k to drop on a car

    • The Hong Kong people say: no money, no talk.

  • i thought its the pajero itself, then i read sports…

  • +1

Pajero has unibody design, more stable ride, whereas Sport is seapare chassis and feels more wobbly on road, similar to Prado.

Pajero is built in Japan and Sport in Thailand.

Year ago I went with Pajero GLX and got a pretty good deal imo.

Im very happy with the car and its ability to fit in heaps of boxes when back seats are down is great. And the 3rd road seats doesn't take space when folded. It also pulls our caravan like a champ. Only issues I'm having is with steering which makes knocking voices when turning, just have to find time to take it back for warranty some time soon.

    • +1

Forget about Pajero Sport's ugly tail light, the Pajero still has dot-matrix display in the central console… Seriously, DOT-MATRIX? ;p

      • Yeah, that display is ugly as, but when the base model GLX comes with Android/Apple auto I can forgive that.

Only thing I'm interested at that dotmatrix display is distance to empty and elevation display wbich can be fun at times.

The back of the pajero sport at first sight looked horrendous, but when I kept thinking about it it has some samurai elements/feeling in it. Should ask from a Japanese person what they think :)

  • The back seats are terrible adults have to sit with their heads tilted towards the middle of the car if sitting on the outer seats… Terrible, but they drive beautifully

    • Not a good place for full grown adults to sit in over long distance, especially with the seat belt for the second row passengers running across in front of your face. Edit: Sorry I am talking about the 3rd row seats in a GLS and Exceed.

    Not a deal.

Mitsubishi must have finally sold though all their old inventory to be pricing these so high.

The Isuzu MUX is better in almost every metric. The 4x4 Auto LS-M is the same price, roomier, classier, quieter, has a better warranty, more capable off road (with dirt road road side assistance) and a far better tow vehicle. Plus no one has a problem with an Isuzu. If you want a 4x4 Ute based wagon and live outside a city, this is the one.

The X-Trail is a far better SUV. If you must have a Diesel 4x4 they are under $40k. This month you can get a 2WD 2.5L petrol for $29k. It's the worlds best selling SUV for a reason.

If you want to maximise you dollar while spending $45k, a 2wd petrol Sorento, Santa Fe or Path Finder is a far better choice.

If you want to Diesel 4x4 all day (or keep one in the city), a base MY18 Everest can be had for $51k. It has a urea exhaust instead of a particulate filter, meaning you shouldn't go into limp mode by driving under 40km/h for several hours.

This post is my personal opinion.

Mitsubishi does have good reliability though

      • Not better than average.

They are one of the best with recalls, often ignoring warranty and offering fee recall repairs years out of warranty.

  • +1

In Spanish, pajero is slang for playing with your manhood solo.

Do true OzBargainers buy new cars? Used cars are so much cheaper…
