  • These are great units. Have a P1 which is 960p, couldn’t be happier with the quality, decent unit.

    • how long have you had the camera for?
some long term reviews werent good on them.

      • Can’t remember exactly but few month now. Only one time when power goes off, WiFi was done, then a simply reconnection fixes the issue. Never had a issue since.

        • thanks for the info buddy

  • How’s ease of setup on these?
And what kind of app support?

    • +2

very easy and straight forward, probably takes a minute or two. they both have android and ios app, also online through their main website's protocol.

for these who are interested, u can download their app 'vimtag' and enter username 'vimtag',password 'vimtag' to experience all their live camera, pretty cool.

  • A lot of positive reviews on Amazon. I presume you can display the photos and the videos from the camera on your phone (even though they are being stored on the SD card)?

    • +2

sure can, everything is app accesible,u can either live view or download recorded files on sd card remotely. they do also have cloud storage for people insterested. free for one month trail and $4 sth monthly

      • Many thanks for the response. That is what it sounded like from reading the reviews but just wanted to confirm. Appreciate the feedback from an actual user.

      • Does it connect to home wifi network or need the ethernet cable to run?

        • they connect straight to home wifi network.

  • IS it one best on its range guys? Would anyone suggest others?

    • cp1 would be a better choice, they are 1080p. if you are looking for better zooming with detail, you can go for cp-x or p1 model

  • +1

What a bargain! I got this product 3 days ago, and want to recommend it for people who want to buy a security camera for family use with budget less than $100. Especially for families with kids and pets.
The video quality is excellent. With the camera set to its higher resolutions, there may be a slight delay when watching on a phone cell-network. Our experience when at home, is that there is no delay at all. If your home or phone's internet speed causes a delay on its way to your phone, you can reduce the camera's resolution to speed things up. We've decided to leave ours at the crisp-clear high resolution—- it seems too sharp to give up over a slight delay in seeing it from the phone.

  • Can the IR be turned off?

  • +1

Awesome little camera. I bought one to spy on my dog while I'm at work and it hasn't let me down. Loving it! I found setup instructions on youtube but didn't need to use them in the end

  • Sorry for my noob question! How is this one compare to the Xiaomi Dafang? Is there any different in fuction or just different brand?

    • defeintely better in terms of overall build quailty and reliabilty. vimtag only doing survillance cameras and constantly get software updates, thats a big plus for lots customers. you can check video quailty by sign in their account and check the quailty urself.

      • does it go through a server like the dafang?

  • Do you need to use their companion app to view the video stream or can you connect to it via RTSP?

    • -1

i think for seurity reasons, they dont support onvif and RTSP as yet, did sacrifices some customrs' need but made their app harder to hack? might be wrong but need some professional answers as well.

      • +1

        Thats wrong

The only reason to disable RTSP is so you can control your users.

        • +2

Agreed. You are crazy to buy a camera that locks you into only using their app and services.

The reason that most major security camera systems use is ONVIF/RTSP is so people can use the best systems for their purpose.

        • @not a bargain: agree to some extend but not everyone is into that feature. vimtag are capable of rtsp but manufacture has disabled the function,Rtsp are standard protocol to most of the cameras where customers get easy access to live streaming but this will be a lot easier for third party personal to hack into the streaming and get access too. Vimtag uses 1024 bit RSA encryption to secure their streaming and by hiding the access protocol and port in order to better secure the customers' Privacy. Customer like me simply do not need rstp, as long as the product were well structured with easy app and provides continuing support, that matters the most. But from the last support email i have been told they will open onvif very soon.

        • @jameswayne:

          No thats wrong.

          RTSP is not insecure.

        • @samfisher5986: not saying they are insecure, just saying depends on the encryption method each manufacturer has used.

        • @jameswayne:

No it completely depends on the software you use with it.

        • I agree that its much better to stay with ONVIF/RTSP camera's where possible. So many more and better options for recording than being tied down to a proprietary app.

I was hoping this was ONVIF compatible, but it looks like it isn't.

  • Does anyone know if it could be wall/ceiling mounted? Or does it need to stand on its base?

    • +1

they are free stand, can be mounted upside down or simply place on its base. you can change the view anytime inside app.

  • Can it be set to record to a NAS at all?

    • Not as far as I know, they have their own DVR box which is optional to purchase

  • Does this camera use 5Ghz wifi?

The Foscam that I just bought only supports 2.4Ghz and has been a pain to set up

    • +1

They all uses 2.4ghz as the 5ghz wouldn’t be good for penetration through walls so influences a lot on wifi signal, vimtag is fairly easy too connect tho, it depends a lot on which wifi module they uses too. Vimtag inly took a minute to connect and it’s ready to go based on my experience.

      • 5GHz WiFi would be very handy to have on a security camera. If you have a quality router you have good range with a 5GHz device. My Unifi router on the 5GHz band goes through brick walls and still provides good speeds.

    • the 200 bux hikvision has dual band 2.4+5ghz

      • got a hikVision myself but seems really over priced, grabbed one this time and lets see how it goes 😉

  • Can this be rigged up to use as a skype camera?

    • Dont think u can use ip cameras for skype, can u?

      • Definitely not this one.

Very difficult to do on most other IP cameras. Certainly not something I would not attempt to do.

  • Thanks OP, grabbed one!

  • Thanks OP! This is my first foray into IP Cameras and will be good for home security / keeping an eye on my cat!

  • Tempted but quite a few reviews on Playstore accuse Vimtag of publishing fake 5 star reviews. I especially hate fake reviews! I desperately need a good cheap cam to replace the Orioncam ones I picked up through an oz bargain deal.

    • guess the only way for you is to physically try one to appreciate the quailty. or u can login their test account to see their real live streaming to test out whether they suits ur need.

      • was watching those people in the office.

      • Mate, can you give a quick comment on why shouldn't i bought these (just a recommendation for me cos im really looking to be some)

        Thank you.
There are so many ip camera out there …. to me they r all the same. ??

        • +1

trust me. you dont want to get your link ones, poor quailty built and cheap no name toy would easily burn your cash. vimtag ones at least their retail is about $80-100 bucks and they have full aussie support through vimtags.com.au op' price seems very cheap, must be a clearance or so, where every body else either on amazon or ebay sell heaps dearer

        • @whatsmyname201: Thanks for your advice mate, I keep you tagged here and if the camera got any problem i'll pm you !!
the $53 one got 1200 sold above its tempting

  • Can you have multiple cameras and control them via the same app? ie, not one camera per phone/app

anyone got a link to a feed?

    • Never mind, I found out.

I think I’ll stick with the Xiaomi Xiaofung

      • Got a Xiaofang too, but thrown it somewhere long ago due to geo locking and previous frenqueny line drop.

    • you can have upto 32 cameras in one app/account. It’s not only one camera to one account.

      • can multiple users login on the same account at the same time ?

  • Thanks OP, nabbed one.

  • Any good outdoor IP cameras?

  • Bought one.
Then found this, is it genuine concerned?
    https://www.timothyhoogland.com/2016/09/chinese-ip-cameras-t…

  • Warning! Vimtag cam could be accessed by hacker! I saw the cam moved its head a bit when i was sitting at the back of the cam. I was the only one had access.

I bought a 720p and a 1080p a year ago. 720p is nearly dead, often stopped working and lost wifi connection, also the image quality is bad. 1080p is much better and wider view.

The cam has fan so it has noise, not suitable for bedroom and baby monitor. Audio has the fan noise in background.

Vimtag app is slow and buggy. Latest version is better, old versions were useless, just hate it. It still has main issues below.

I set to motion recording, but they often stop recording a couple of months later. I have to check whether recording works very month.

It is frustrated to review footages. Cams can be connected via local wifi connection without internet, but it still takes 3 minutes to view 1 minute footage. Also cam's SD card is in special format and unreadable by Windows. Maybe working in Mac?

The display time of footage thumbnails may not be correct. Thumbnails slowly refresh when scrolling down footages screen. Sometimes they just display same image or grey.

It cannot download multiple footages to phone, only one at a time, slow and painful. It cannot fast forward playback in the app. If you pause the playback and then continue, it goes back to beginning.

Timezone is also a problem. The time does not adjust for Aus daylight saving.

There are more other small issues. One of the latest issue is 200x10mm size of cloud service ad displays on top of app screen. It cannot be closed.

    • wow …!!!!

either you or this guy .. fake review/feedback

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/402854#comment-6361591

      so which is which ???

    • Have to admit the old app was bit buggy but the new one seems lot better, I have a P1 model which is 960p and that was clear enough to me. Can’t comment on the 720p. Time zone problem has been fixed long time ago, never had a problem with the live streaming but haven’t got a chance to use the sd card to store the data so can’t comment download footage. Would assume it Will depend lot on the speed of your local wifi speed as well as phone’s network speed as well.

    • +3

A camera moving its head does not mean its accessed by a hacker.

Although I wouldn't say these would be considered secure either.

    • They don't have fans inside, what you on about? Sounds like your app is so much outdated, needs to uninstall and reinstall the new one.

      • Wow, thank you for your first comment to my post. You just joined at 13/09/2018 - 12:59.

"what you on about?" - I don't know "what you on about".

Can someone please confirm whether it has fan build in? Maybe new model doesn't have? Two cams that I bought have fan.

        • theres no fan for sure in my one,not sure they are old or new but will confirm with vimtag for you. fan would be very noisy, are you sure they are fan noise?

        • @Jonnytheblack:
So new model doesn't have it. That's good. Both of mine make constant noise. It is like a fan inside a desktop PC.

        • @howsy:got a reply from them. please refer to the photo 1 ,photo 2,photo 3.
          hope these helps

  • How would these go outside undercover? Say under a veranda or something that won't be directly exposed to rain or sunlight?

    • they have spcific line for out door units, these ones are mainly for in doors.

  • the eofy deal you've posted last time was better

    can get 1080p at $65
    or 960p at $55

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/388107

    • ur right, thats how i got my last one. great price back then 👌😁

  • How do you power one of these cameras ? Do they support POE or being powered by a POE injector ?

    Are they outdoor rated (IP44 ? IP66/67?)

Are they usable at night (infraed?) or just during the daytime ?

  • Thanks got one and setting up now. What is the max size of micro SD card it will take? 32, 64, 128?

    Thanks!

  • Mine arrived, seems DOA. Or faulty on arrival at least.

    • i got two, prefectly working. might be a defective unit i guess from ur sound of it. you can always contact either the seller or vimtag australia, their service is brilliant.

      • Yup have pinged the seller.
Yeah, basically that IR light never goes off in the initial set up phase, tried dozens of power cycles, pressing (or holding) reset doesn't get a response out of any light etc.
