Netcomm NF18ACV, $34.54 + $10 Standard Shipping (Parallel Import) @ Catch

160

Was trying to do some research on my new modem that I paid $99+$15 shipping for to find that Catch have it for $32.54+$10 shipping. Closest price I've seen is upwards of $100.

Item is parallel import from somewhere, and does state that it will take about 10 days shipping time.

Good luck, and good for those looking for this model modem/router.

  • That's a very good price. I highly recommend it.

I bought one for $140 including delivery costs when it first came out and after 1 year of use I have now disconnected the NBN and it's sitting in the cupboard collecting dust. Mobile 4G data is currently cheaper than NBN for my needs. When mobile data becomes more expensive than NBN I'll reconnect the NBN and use it again.

I used the Voice feature adding a VoIP phone which was very good quality and very easy to set up.

  • Would this work as a modem for HFC?

    • Yes, but you'll just use it in PPPOE mode (bypassing the vdsl modem).

I use this modem in PPPOE for my FTTP connection.

      • So if I use this as my HFC modem and have my existing router (Asus RT-AC68U), I'm set?

        • Have you got HFC connected now?

        • You can use the RT-AC68 just like that. NBNCo will give you the HFC modem which has the Ethernet port just plug that straight into your Asus. You can just buy a separate ATA for a VoIP service if you want that abd arnt going with the ones I mentioned before

        • @Dezeption:

Thats why I'm wondering if he has hfc connected already…. I'm guessing not.

        • @ash2000: No, not yet.

Thanks for the comments. I don't think I need this as like you said the ISP will supply a HFC modem and I already have a router. Don't plan to use a separate VoIP service.

      • That's not entirely correct pppoe doesn't bypass the VDSL modem in your case the reason it's working it's becasue you haven't added pppoe credentials

You don't need a modem for HFC NBN. It's provided by NBN as the Arris NTD. So any router would work.

It changes if you would like to also have a home line. If you want that, this will work if you go for somone like ABB, Mungi, Leaptel.

If you plan to go with Telstra, Optus of TPG/iinet you will need their modem/router

  • Wow, that is cheap. What's the catch? Even I would not sell my brand new one at that price.

  • Does it come with an AU plug?

    • This model is made exclusively for the Australian market, I'd assume so.

  • Does it have ACMA approval?

    • It's a parallel import, so no.

I have this one, via the "free modem" promo from Aussie Broadband. Works really well, easily delivers 45+ mbps speeds via wireless to a two-storey house.

    Would recommend.

  • This is the modem that Aussie Broadband supplies and they charge a lot more so this is a good price! And to the guy above yes I'm using this modem right now on HFC

  • price back to $196 :c

    • No, they removed the imported version.

    • Yes as the seller has pulled it from sale and it has redirected to another sellers price. It was probably a pricing error since it's been pulled from sale by the seller.

  • Damn it that was a bargain and missed it. I procrastinated because i thought it might not have an AC adaptor.

  • Pricing error?

  • It showed back online for a minute but has now disappeared again.

    $196?

  • Doesn’t make sense. Is it an AU specific model OR is it a parallel import?
This doesn’t seem like the sort of thing that would be legal without approvals.

  • Back to $35…

  • Yeah… Back in stock now.

  • Darn. Got one for $15 posted with ABB, but this just killed my resale value!

Edit: No, thankfully it didn't, it's $196 now.
