Ultra-wide monitors are in vogue for both gaming and productivity so I'd thought I do some research on some options available.
Kogan has a $569.86 option (coupon: PHENOM) that does almost the same thing (100hz, 1440p resolution, Freesync) for a much cheaper price, but it suffers from a fairly sluggish response rate of 16 ms (7.8ms Overclocked) which would make it not so great for fast paced action scenes. However, it is one of the cheapest 1440p ultra wide monitors available and if Microsoft Excel sounds more exciting to you than Rocket League, then your wallet might love you for it.
The next step up would be this XG35VQ monitor, which has almost pretty much everything you'd want:
- Height Adjustable
- Freesync with 100hz refresh with 4ms GTG pixel response times
- a high vertical resolution of 1440 pixels
- Backlight strobing to reduce motion blur. It's not perfect since it will reduce the overall brightness of the display.
- RGB lights (Linus starts hyperventilating)
The downside
- Nvidia users are left out in the cold with no G-Sync support
- Its "only" 100hz refresh rate may not satisfy those with superhuman reflexes.
It has good reviews online on many various sites

You may also wish to consider the Kogan 49" Super-Ultra-Wide Curved monitor that goes for $999, but it's main downside is the 1080p vertical resolution, you have to sit further from the desk to see all screen without hurting your neck, and the fact that it might not fit your desk…
