    • It will be interesting to see how this one goes. A major difference is this time they are sending eGift cards - not EFTPOS cards.

The EGift cards are emailed - and also you must choose the specific store (eg. Coles, JB HiFi, etc) you want the card for.

To be fair on ASUS, some of the complainants in those links are complaining about not receiving gift cards 4 weeks BEFORE the time the T&C of the promotion said the cards would be sent!

On the other hand, it appears some people waited several months AFTER the EFTPOS cards were due….

I am going to go out on a limb and guess ASUS have outsourced the handling of the promotion to www.giftpay.com.au this time around…

  • Pity no MX38VQ (38") included. Then again, $100 discount on that is only about 5% anyway. Waiting to see if I can snap up a bargain with a 20% ebay code on one of those bad boys, any of the 38" makes would be fine, Asus/Acer/Dell/LG, whichever can be knocked down by 20% :)

    • +1

I am curious if you plan to use the MX38VQ for gaming?

It looks great, but the lack of G-sync (or freesync if you use AMD) means I wouldnt buy it.

      I like gaming, and for $1000+ I want G-Sync….
      If I didnt want G-Sync, I'd just buy a 50" 4k tv….

      • Nah not a gamer, i specifically like the 38" for the extra pixel real estate over the 34's. People say they are too big but honestly I've been using 2 x 24's for the last decade, one ultrawide will take less of a footprint than 2 of these old LCD's do.

But back to gaming, whilst I'm not a gamer, in case I'm tempted by such a great display I'll opt for the Acer XR382CQK which at least has FreeSync and likely is cheaper to boot. I don't know of any 38" screen with G-Sync yet so for a gamer 38" isn't the category to play in, general refresh rates would probably be the next problem. The Acer does 75Hz where LG and I think Dell do 60Hz, though both of those are aimed at colour reproduction anyway.

The 34" range has G-Sync options so that might be your next move.

EDIT: I was tempted by the 43" Philips 4K curved screen but that actually looks physically too much to be sitting in front of being 16:9. That's why I love these new ultrawide's, its 2 smaller monitors in 1 without going too crazy.

        • What worries me is that in the 34 inch category the refresh rate cap is generally 100hz with G-sync
Actually its 120hz with Acer X34P and Alienware equivalent.

Newer monitors are coming out with 144hz+

          Dont really want to splash $1100 on a 100hz 34" then find a 144hz is released 3 months later…

  • My $50 voucher arrived today from my mid-september purchase. Note it's not a EFTPOS voucher but rather one of those universal GC's that can be converted into one of many types, I picked WW / Wish for mine.
