What is worth with 100k bonus point?

    • +9

      See the post above

    • How much simpler can this be explained to you

  • +3

Please be careful of Citibank when they say "No annual fee for life". I signed up for a similar scheme with Citibank years ago and they told me no fees for life. They quickly turned around and introduced a once off fee.

    • +18

That seems odd - I signed up for a Signature card through this deal and haven't been charged a fee in the almost 5 years I've had the card.

      • +2

        Same.

      • Likewise. Didn't happen to me.

      • My relatives have had fee free for life for about 12 yrs now.

        Not a single fee

      • same for me. I even "upgraded" to the Qantas rewards signature card, and they never charged me the additional Qantas fee either. I even took screenshots if the "$0 fee for life" page in case they tried to charge me, but never needed it.

      • yeah had mine for over 10 years.. still no fees

    • I have a fee free card for 10+ years, no issues with any fees

    • They are still technically correct, it is not an annual fee, it is "one off fee". Feels misleading, I know, but that's the business of small print fiddlers.

    • Only fee which came in for me was when QFF started charging :( But otherwise been fee free since 06?

  • Does anyone know if the Simplicity card uses the VISA exchange rate for international purchases?

  • Can you transfer Citi points to QFF?

    • +1

      See post above

      • The above post does not directly mention QFF although there may be ways to transfer..

    • If you want qantas points, I'd go for the Platinum Amplify with SGB/BoM/BSA and use the sign up trick to get no annual fee first year for 50k QFF points. Only need $2000 spend in the first 3 months too.

  • "5% cash back can be earned on all eligible purchases, made in Australia and internationally, of up to $1,000 spend in the first 90 days from account approval." What happens after 90 days?

    dupe sorry

    • ya get nothing at all

    • You receive the 100k points

    • +1

I meant I created a dupe thread. Sorry guys.

  • +2

I have this card the purchase cover insurance has the usual sort of insurance get outs, so don't rely on a successful claim. I had one claim rejected because in the small print they don't cover dishwashers as a specific call out… Also they will only price match if it's in a store catalogue i.e. can't use website version has to be paper copy and within a certain radius from where the purchase was made.

    Otherwise good card.

    • The travel insurance (Plat/Sig) is actually quite reliable, but the claim $$ cap per case is a bit low (it's free insurance after all).

I claimed cap twice in the last 5 years, easily approved with police reports, receipts, and letters from airline, train company etc.

"To earn 100,000 bonus Citi rewards Points, you must apply for a Citi Platinum credit card by 31 July 2018, then spend $3,000 on your card within 90 days of approval"

Wonder if they will update the promotion end date?

  • +3

The rewards of the Citibank Simplicity blows my mind…in a bad way.

    • +7

Would have taken you less time to click on the link than to ask the question. Both cards are Visa cards.

  • Any international transaction fee? i have bankwest platinum which works really well overseas but wondering if this would work similarly?

    • yes, in addition to their exchange rate benefits!

"We charge you an International Transaction Fee of 3.4%, debited to your Account on the Transaction Date, of which a service and assessment fee of up to 1.1% is payable by us to Visa or Mastercard (as applicable), for any Retail Purchase…"

      • +1

ohhhh wow LOL i might stay away then

        • I use this card as a transition card when swapping between Westpac & ANZ FF cards that come with bonus FF points every other year!

so it get used for a month and I'll take whatever points comes my way. my card also came with 2 x free trips to airport lounge every year with priority pass. works well on a rainy day !

      • You can just get a the everyday citi bank transaction account with a Visa debit card. All OS transaction fees are waved and you get a pretty good exchange rate. It's my go to travel card.

    • While the BW platinum is great for overseas transactions, it does not come with the International insurance (whatever it is) as the Citibank card does

      • What? The BankWest platinum MasterCard definitely comes with complimentary travel insurance, along with the fee-free international transactions. That was its main differentiating selling point when comparing between the BW platinum and the 28-degrees card when looking for a suitable credit card to use while traveling.

        • must have changed? the website now does not list it https://www.bankwest.com.au/personal/credit-cards/no-annual-…

        • @skinny: what are you looking at?? It's literally the second sentence in the link you posted, right at the beginning of the page

Our Bankwest Zero Mastercard® is great for travelling, with no foreign transaction fees and complimentary international travel insurance for Platinum cardholders

This has been a feature of the card for at least the past 8+ years I've known and had the card.

  • Frequest

    • Haha thanks

  • I don't think the Simplicity card deal is that great.

It doesn't really distinguish itself from other free credit cards. You get a $50 cash back in the first 90 days, maybe some free wine (but you can do with a Citibank plus account too) and maybe some insurance (which I wouldn't rely on anyways).

Maybe if this card gave you some reward points it'll be alright.

Am I missing anything in regards to this free credit card that is meant to make it any good?

    • +2

No I agree with you.. It's not that great, just thought I'd add it on at the end. Might be of interest to someone out here

  • +1

If you want qantas points, I'd go for the Platinum Amplify with SGB/BoM/BSA and use the sign up trick to get no annual fee first year for 50k QFF points. Only need $2000 spend in the first 3 months too.

    • What's the sign up trick?

      • +6

Complete first page of sign up, go to second page, exit browser and don't save, wait for email from bank that will say they'll waive the first year fee if you come back and complete app. Go back and compete app with instructions in email.

    • Tried this as per instructions with SGB.. but only got the "we've saved your application" email. No indication of annual fee waived :/

    • The SGB Amplify Signature comes with 90k Qantas points at the moment with a $4000 spend in 90 days and a $100 reduced fee of $179 for the first year. It also pays 0.75 points/$ instead of 0.5/$ for the platinum.

Don't know but this trick may also work with that card.

  • I know some folks have used the balance transfer to essentially get an interest free cash loan by transferring to another card and then withdrawing through ATM or bank, but I've forgotten which cards allow this. Anyone know the details?

    • +1

Citibank Platinum allows that (26 months BT with a 2.5% fee). But make sure you:
1- Do not use this card after BT.
2- Pay off the annual fee ASAP.
3- Pay minimum balance as per statement every month (generally 2% of total balance).

You can call them and ask for cheque to self. As always do your own research.

      • They dont always offer existing customer this. Instead they may offer you like personal loan like rate like 8.99% for 1 year or 2.

    • +1

Transfer to a credit card with nothing on it, then can be transferred with a small fee, think cba is $2.5

  • +3

Seems a bit wanky for them to say reverts to a discounted $149 fee. How is it discounted? seems like normal yearly fee in conditions.

  • +1

    Minimum spend $3000/90 days..

  • +1

That's good value for 40k velocity, particularly if you're within 18 months of an Amex and took advantage of the Virgin Flyer card bonuses too.

If you send your velocity points over to KrisFlyer to use them on Singapore Airlines/Star Alliance, it's better to put them straight there in this instance. $49 for 33k KF is a bargain.

If you took the 40,000 Velocity and then later moved to KF, you'd get just under 30k (exchange rate of 0.74)

Have been waiting for the free for life signature card since 2016 and still no sign of promotion.

    • Earning and redemption on the Signature makes it not much more attractive than other cards so you’re not missing out on much.

      • +1

Signature card gives two Priority Pass lounge entries per year which no other free card has.

  • Is this currently the best card to get velocity points with?

    • Best I've seen for a while.

  • I have the signature card, in the past the overseas insurance and rewards was great, actually no awesome but now the rewards arent that good and they have moved to alliannz from zurich for their travel insurance which dosent inspire me as i have had bad dealings with allianz

I got the Amex explorer card but found the $400 travel credit is useless really as the Amex travel is a rip off and limited options, the rewards seem ok.

WHats the best card for rewards and insurance?

THe prestige card looks good but anyone know how to get them to waive the $700 annual fee?

    • Sell the $400 on the classifieds. You're guaranteed a gimme $300.

Can some one explain to me this ' 55 days interest-free ' ? For example, I made a $100 purchase on a (19.99% pa card ), and I havent paid the bill up to 55th days. On the 56th day I will have to paid 19.99% pa that counted from 1st day ?

    • +10

Thats not how credit cards work. You get 'up to 55 days' interest free and its based on your billing cycle.

For simplicity's sake lets say that your billing period begins on the 1st day of every month and ends on the 31st day of the month. After your bill is issued on the 31st of the month, you'll have a couple of weeks (24 days if the interest free period is 55 days) to pay it… And this is your interest free period.

So you make a purchase on day 1 of your billing cycle, the 1st of August, and your bill gets issued on the 31st of August and is due to be paid on the 24th of September. If you pay the bill in full on the 24th September, you'll not pay any interest and the thing you purchased on the 1st of August was 55 days interest free.

However anything you purchase in the month of August is also due to be paid on the 24th September, so any purchases made on the 31st would only be interest free for 24 days, because thats when the bill is due.

      • +1

Ohhhh THAT is how it works. I never get a proper explanation from my cc. Thank you so much.

  • +1

What was the normal annual fee for simplicity ?

  • +1

Does Simplicity one have Travel insurance cover as well? Also, is that normally $0 annaul fee?

  • Applied for this yesterday and chose the points in the application and yet I get an email in the morning asking me to submit proof of BT! Called them up and they say it is still at the backend, once it comes to the verification team we will get in touch.

  • Are people who currently hold the Signature card eligible for the 100,000 points offer? Cant see any T's and C's that state it is for new customers or not available to existing cardholders

    • you should be able too as long as its a new application. i stuffed up i cancelled my 2 fee free signature cards and applied for a investment home loan and then this plat card offer to get the 100k which got approved but now they wont reinstate any of my 2 cancelled signature cards even though it was within 30 days as they say its because i cancelled them for the homeloan. so beware of cancelling a fee free card they may not reinstate it.

      • So if I already have this platinum card and waiting to bit minimum spend for 100k points I can apply for it again to get another 100k points?

        • call them it should be ok as long its 6-9 months applications are apart

  • Simplicity card only has the 5% cashback up to $50

    No ongoing rewards… :(

  • So, you don't get a Priority Card and 2 free lounge visits per year?

    • Not with these cards

  • anyone get a diners campanion card and can it be used towards the 3k spend as you earn more points with it? or must it be only spend on the visa get to get the 100k points?

  • The deal seems to have changed to “You’ll earn 10,000 bonus Points every month for 20 months from approval when you spend $1,000 in each statement period” rather than as described above?

    • yes thats the new offer i think it started on Aug 13? i applied in july so old t/cs stand i beleive

  • has anyone been able to add their diners club card to paypal? i get following error" We can't process your request right now. Please try again later." when i choose discover card and enter in details correctly. also anyone take up the b/t offer, i called up and they said i its 0% for 15 months but have to pay 1% fee. i though there was an option of no fees for a 6 month bal transfer?

  • When does the 3 month period start, when the card is issued by the bank or when the customer activates it? Have 2 Cards to fulfill the requirement hence wondering :)

  • id play it safe and go by the date it was approved

  • Did the deal change?
It says 10,000 points each month you spend $1000

Edit: oops xdream already said it
