Had to create a new account as per OzDJ's instructions. Didn't work on existing accounts.

Wouldn't work on exsisting Au account. Made a new account with USA residence, Au address and it worked.

  • Created my third account and it finally worked. What a fricken hassle.

I used the address from Australia Post Shopmate this time and linked my paypal before completing transaction. Used Chrome private mode.

  • Ha…so my address change didn't allow me to use the code, but it did trigger eBay to send me an email saying,

"Recently Made a Move? Then you've probably got stuff you'd like to get rid of. Don't miss your chance to sell 3 items free!"

I have 10 days to use the free listings.

    • So what are you waiting for? Sell, sell, sell!

  • Created a new account. Same paypal, same home address and I bought these some quilt.

    Worth the hassle.

So I created a US account, did the address thing, coupon applied successfully, then when I tried to pay with my PayPal (which is verified and quite old/good standing), it fails and says my ebay account needs a verified paypal account..

I give up. I tried it on a second new account which I expect will be promptly shut down. Both new accounts now have an order pending payment which I can't even view details of or complete payment.

    • I got the same issue, without realizing I kept trying multiple times and now I have the two items pending 3 times each in my purchase history….. I am trying to contact ebay to sort it now.

had a chat and clarified what was most likely already said on Ozbargain, eBay is checking the account registration country this time as well as the address. So if you just change the address, the code wouldn't work. Hence why people who register with a US address can access the coupon.

To repeat what others have said; I created a new account registered in the USA, linked my existing PayPal account (verified, originally registered here in Australia) and was able to purchase using the promo code, so all good.

A bit of fiddling around, but saved myself $33 so I don't mind. OzBargainers win again!

OK it worked for me also after failing to use the change registration method. Well assuming my order isn't cancelled or something. Paypal authorised it using an SMS which is unusual.

From reading the thread it appears eBay uses a scoring system where each additional "flag" signifying possible fraud raises the chances that mitigation will occur - mitigation doesn't necessarily mean stopping the order for example you start getting captcha challenges if you make accounts on the same ip one after another. Having no phone verification is a massive flag usually.

    So I:

    1) Changed IP to US West Coast using PIA

    2) Pasted URL of item we want into incognito Chrome window and add to cart.

    3) Created new account with new gmail (gmail may be trusted more than hotmail/unknown email server), it asks where to ship items to - this is your registration address, use a real fake address eg hotel in the same region as your IP. Used existing mobile (used for 1 existing ebay account only).

    4) Add a shipping address which is your real address.

    5) Apply code and pay with usual Paypal account. PayPal sms verified the transaction which uses same number as new account.

    • …use a real fake address…

Pretty much sums up this deal!

For the record, I didn't worry about masking my IP address, but everything else pretty much mirrors what I did.

I didn't encounter any captchas or get a PayPal verification SMS (although my total was only ~$230, so there might be a threshold involved), and the phone number I used for the USA account is also the one used on my Aus. account.

Wow just catching up with the comments now. Glad I made an alternate "Permanent US Ebay account" from the last time there was a US code rather than fudging the details of my main account.

I actually went another step further and kept a fake US address as A main for digital only items that aren't shipped, managed to snag some cheap US PSN credit with this coupon that was emailed to me, and avoided paying GST to boot. :)

I missed the part "ONE TIME USE" … too much in a hurry to purchase a phone and forgot to add case and screen protector in the cart. Errr now off to create a new account

  • Worked creating new US account using Shopmate details as address, but didn't like the Shopmate phone number as the area code seemed to not match the suburb. Changed the area code and it was happy.

    Thanks, $75 saved.

    • I used an Australia mobile number for my USA signup and it didn't seem to care.

      • same here - even got a verification text from it.

        • You know…I never thought to turn that phone on! Might check now!

        • …and no verification message, but an unexpected reminder SMS from Jetstar telling me I can now 'check-in' - what for, I don't know, as I'm not booked to fly anywhere!

        • @dm01: cool. Mystery holiday!

Made a new account and worked, 15% off a $499 PS4 Pro with free postage! Woohoo. I bet someone replies back with a better price though, oh well, I am pretty happy with $424.99! Crap I should be getting extra controllers and stuff as well I suppose…time running out.

    • Got mine for $191 after selling the Fortnite code for $150 lol

  • When does this end now?

    • Can't you see what OP has posted above?

  • Worked for me made a US account, added Australian shipping address. Cheers OP saved $50 :)

  • No Bueno changing address for me, i think ill have to create a new account assuming the code is still valid

  • Just used this. Works

  • My experience was a bit different.
Made a new account and dded 2 items to my cart, coupon worked and paid by PayPal using a US ip address. It went through and received the confirmation email from ebay.
Then checked my PayPal account and only one of the items was paid ! The ebay website also showing one of items as unsuccessful.

Tried to pay the second item again and it did not let me pay in any way, until I turned my VPN off and the payment went through successfully.

So basically I used the code twice !

  • Expired? Can someone confirm please?

    • Yes, expired.

  • Damn it, thought it expired 16hrs AEST…. wasted all arvo adding stuff.

  • Worked for me this morning, saved US$100. Unfortunately I got stung by PayPal forcing its awful currency conversion rate on me despite selecting the 'convert currency with my card provider' option, so ended up paying an extra $40 for no reason. Ugh. Oh well. Thanks OP for the code.

  • So I tried the new account method, worked to an extent.. half the order went in via paypal, the other had to go direct AMEX payment.

All the items are confirmed paid, but my new account got suspended. Will the items still be sent?

Damn, thought it ended 10pm Sydney time…

  • I opened a new ebay us account and placed the order. And half an hour ago I get email from ebay us said “Your eBay account has been suspended.”. Well, what should I do now?

    • No other info as to why? Jump on to eBay chat and find out the reasoning.

      • There is no reason in the email.
And then I called ebay, they just keep saying your account has been suspended, we are sorry, but we can't tell you the reason…

        • Must just have been the vibe of the thing
