    • What category of item?

      • Bought a watch from an Aussie seller.

  • Can't get it to work on a surface book

  • +1

It's not working. Waste of time.

  • +1

They have changed the "registration information" page.

Even though it says "updated successfully" you can't change just the country to United States.

    How did y'all do it?

    • I changed it a few minutes before the special started. Maybe eBay USA has locked changes?

      • I changed mine a day and a half ago.

    • Try Canada, also valid country according to the T&C.

      • I had set mine to Canada but also doesn't work. Tried some items that ship worldwide and that didn't work either.

      • Tried changing country in Ebay AU, US, CA. None of them work. It just reverts back to Australia.

        I give up.

    • I entered my shipito information as the address (in registration information) and was able to update, but still keep Australian Postal address. Can't get it to work tho. Trying to buy a surface book

  • Perhaps items are only eligible if they're shipped from the US, or they have valid international shipping (ie. can be shipped to the US). For anyone who was able to get the discount on an item, care to break that theory though?

    • +1

I purchased this with the code:

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Disposable-Gas-Bottle-PURE-ARGON…

      Free shipping to Australia only.

      • Scratch that theory then, very weird.

      • +1

Thanks for posting the link. I just tested it and it doesn't work for me.

        So current facts are:
        - Not based on item/category
        - Not based on Location
        - Not based on shipping availability to US

Definitely to do with user account. Can you tell us anymore about your account? ie,
        - how old is your account?
        - originally registered via .com.au or .com?
        - if .com.au and you address changed like everyone else, how long ago did you do it?
        - delivery addresses too?

        • +1

I'm not the guy you're responding to, but I changed my address probably about an hour before the deal, but I did not get a "Congratulations on your move to the US" message (unlike the previous 20% off at Ebay US when I changed my address). Perhaps the addresses aren't updating correctly?

      • And did you pay in AUD or USD?

        • +1

Okay, I may possible have an answer. My account was set up on eBay USA in 1997, well before eBay AU existed. Could this have an impact? I have no problems using eBay AU codes however.

I paid in AUD$ on an item that ships to Australia only. I changed my country of registration a few minutes before the code went live.

"You sent a payment of $59.50 AUD to HAMPDON INDUSTRIAL PTY LTD ([email protected])"

          "Other discounts -$10.50 AUD
          Total $59.50 AUD "

        • @Cluster: When you changed your registration country, did it give you a message like "Congratulations on your move to the US" or something of the sort? Or was it just "Updated successfully"?

        • +2

@kpm: I received an email titled "eBay Registration Country Change to United States"

"The user cluster has changed their registered country from
          Australia to United States"

        • @Cluster: Thank you for that info - that's helpful to know.

        • @Cluster: Yeah, I didn't receive any email. Looks like there's something going on there! Thanks for that.

        • @kpm: No email for me, either.

    • Nope, didn't work on a toilet seat which can be shipped to US. So this is a dud deal.

  • Didn't work for me with an Aussie seller / product. Said the Code cannot be applied. :(

  • -1

HHmmm.. i'll test a theory and wait till morning until they get some complaints from local US residents.. code may not be applied "site-wide"

  • Changed to Canada. No difference, Same error.

  • +1

    Works for me. Thanks OP!

    • What currency did you pay in?

      • Sorry for the late reply. I paid in USD (item listing is in USD) using Credit Card via Paypal.

  • +6

Didn't work on my current account so I created a new account with a US address and voila.

    • +4

I have done the same, and code is working on new account (registered with a US address, added my Australian address as delivery).

      TL;DR: Create a new account.

    • Same, didn't work on my account. Created a new one and it worked.

    • -1

Wouldn't it be better to use the 20% off for new accounts on ebay AU if you're going to that trouble?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/369294

      • Isn't that voucher targeted? I didn't receive one on my new account. It's probably worthwhile though if your purchase amount is less than ~$330: max discount is $50, otherwise you'd save more with the 15% sale if you were above this amount.

  • Might it also be necessary to temporarily create a new PayPal delivery address?

    • +2

Doesnt work. Tried it by using my portland oregon shopmate address in both registered address, delivery address and paypal address

      • Fair enough.

  • Drats, can't get the click&collect option to show up, shipping costs more than I would have saved with the code.

  • +6

Guys, I find out the real reason why the code works for some but not others. I tried 2 accounts, 1 work, another NOT so I know the reason. It's not related to currency or paypal address.
1/ You have to make sure that the site you are buying from is ebay.com , NOT ebay.com.au . You can simply find the link, copy, then remove .au , it will work.
2/ When you change your registration address, you have to get a message "congrats blah blah blah moved to United States" and you got an email title "eBay Registration Country Change to United States". Otherwise, your account still managed by ebay.com.au and CANNOT use the code.
3/ Last time I have a problem with eBay plus as well. My first account registered in 2002 with ebay.com , and I tried to change it to eBay AU to join eBay plus, I can't. Have to contact eBay supporter and then they said that my account still stuck with eBay US, so they have to manually change to AU for me. Same as this time, I think many accounts still stuck with eBay AU even though they change their address to US. You have to contact eBay supporter :)

=> There is a bug, or maybe eBay intended to not letting you change your registration country easily.

To answer a few questions: when the code works, you will pay in the currency listed on the listing, not always USD. You get 15% discount on the same currency as well, but not applied to shipping cost. Shipping cost is the same as shipping to AU address.

The easiest way if you do not want to contact eBay supporter: register a NEW account, make sure you LOGGED OUT ebay AU, go to ebay.com, and make sure you LOGGED OUT and/or NOT LOGGED IN.

    • That all makes sense, thanks for posting!

    • Tried with different PayPal accounts with ship to address is AUS, credit card are AU cards.
The first one registered since 2002, works.
The second one registered from 2017, works as well.

So I don't think it's related to Paypal account.

    • ^ he is right! I also changed ebay registration address to USA like just now, but not receiving the congratulation moving to USA email or notification. Coupon wont apply.

      • Had the same issue, just had to create a new ebay account

  • Does anyone know if the discount will work for mobile phone?

  • not working even on new account. give up

    • did you try VPN?

      • -1

        not worth the hassle

    • Did you register with a US address, or with an AU address and then change it?

  • Ok, So I got a new account. It works with the code. New issue is it wont accept paypal, because I am not paypal verified (in the USA), Tried a new paypal account, need US number. Tried also paying with just a credit card via ebay and it was rejected (same issue). Seems to be fine getting a new account for smaller priced items (mine was $1500AUD)

    • I can use my Paypal AU + AU Credit card without any problem. Maybe my Paypal is from 2002?

Edit: tried Paypal AU account from 2016 , works too.

    • +1

I think I'm in the same boat. The code worked but right after I clicked pay with paypal it came up with red text saying something something weird transaction and you need to verify. I'll see what happens in the morning if it goes through or not because right now it says 'Payment pending' on the purchase.

    • -1

I believe it is to do with the value of the purchase. PayPal has limits on the size of transactions (values differ in different countries) and in Australia it is $1000 - something to do with anti-laundering laws. So if you keep the purchase less than $1000 you should be right. I'm not 100% certain it is $1000 in one transaction or when you spend more than $1000 in total over multiple transactions from that account (suspect may be the latter, but just a hunch).

      • "…something to do with anti-laundering laws…."

Err. No. It's just an arbitrary house risk management decision by PayPal. Nothing at all to do with AML/CTF legislation.

    • It just went through before I got to bed hehe
So I basically just followed what the message said. Clicked the link, which took me to another article, and clicked the link in the steps there and it took me to paypal which displayed a 'you are now verified' message. NB: This is my normal paypal account; I only created a new ebay account and linked the two in Account settings.

That was 15mins ago, so it looks like it takes a bit of time to propagate through.

      • This also happened with my purchase (~$900AUD). Hope it goes through!

  • +2

    Works fine for me

    • Same here :D No issues

  • +2

Created new account and it worked for me. What a great deal! Perfect timing.

  • +2

Worked for me with new account. Bought Sony HT RT3 for 274 aud delivered.

  • +1

Changing address method doesn't work on my existing au account but creating a new us account does the trick. Thanks OP and fellow ozbargainers :)

  • +4

    Nice one, OP!

    1. Copy product URL from eBay AU and strip the .au from the URL
    2. Open new incognito browser window and paste your ebay.com URL
    3. Add to cart
    4. Create new account (pick your favourite US hotel and select "don't have a mobile")
    5. Set your Australian delivery address
    6. Apply the discount code

Definitely worth the 5mins of stuffing about.

I snaffled a Baratza Sette 270Wi (coffee grinder) for AUD567.50 instead of AUD649.00. Ironically, using eBay US with the AU seller I chose means I paid about AUD40 less than the cheapest price I could find anywhere in the USA for this newly released machine.

    • Thanks for the step-by-step. Can I ask what payment method you used? Existing or new PayPal? Credit card?

      • +1

        Existing AU PayPal account.

    • +1

      Cheers, this worked for me!

I had already tried changing my registration to use eBay US, and tried a shopster account which didn't work either but this did.

Registered a new account using a US address. Applied the code. Selected my AU shipping address and it all worked fine.

    • This worked for me - thanks heaps!

  • Australia's next offer is scheduled for September 18

    • Source?

      • mrbillions ;p

  • +4

The new account worked for me.
Think I'll keep its address permanently in the US.

  • Changed address, used VPN - still doesn’t work. Any help!

  • +1

Worked for me. Changed my registration to my MyUS shipping address, got the move confirmation, activated CashRewards, found my item on AU site, changed the URL to .com, added to cart, checkout, apply code, ship my work address, paid in AUD, saved $38 AU, changed registration back to AU :D

I've had my account since 2000, when it was only .com. My AU account actually suffers from being handled by US eBay so I never receive any US targeted coupons, and I always receive US generic promotional emails.

I've considered calling to change it, but I'll probably leave it now so I can continue to take advantage of US coupons :p

  • +2

Changed my address yesterday before the sale. Didn't work.
Created new account and purchase with local shipping went smoothly. Thanks OP.

  • Not my thing, but I see Big W have the Series 3 GPS 38mm (no cellular) Watch for <$400 delivered with 30 day return policy.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Watch-Series-3-38mm-Gold-Alum…

    Other models available

  • Used eBay.com and it doesn't work.

    • +2

Def works, wife just ordered the above watch, , follow earlier instructions.

Setup a new ebay.com account after signing up to ShopMate from AusPost (It's Free). It gives you a us address and us phone #.

My wife has our au address as the default shipping, but always check during checkout. Use an au PayPal account.

Keep both accounts to take advantage of more deals

  • +1

Well it works, made me do the extra mile of creating a new account and adding a fake address, zip code and all…..and had the shipping address be in Australia….yay more accounts to micromanage….

    -_-

The discount basically pays for the GST that gets charged too…

    • Plus 5% more and 1% Cashrewards.

MAKING A NEW ACCOUNT DOES WORK!

    • +3

      So why neg then?

      • +1

Shadowrukia had already begged before working it out. Perhaps he will revoke later.

  • Same, works after registered a new account with ebay.com (not ebay.com.au) with my previously used US address. Still using my current Australian mobile phone so could verify the new registration. Shipping to Australian home address of course.

  • I made an ebay.com account yesterday. Just then added an item to cart from an australian ebay store. Applied code. Worked. Then tried to pay with paypal. It said i need to verify first, and provided a link. I verified and now the order appears in my order history with "payment pending". But when i try and view order details it says "Order Service temporarily unavailable or invalid parameters in the request URL.".

I have never had this problem with ebay or paypal before. Can anyone advise or assist?

Edit - So that order went to "cancelled".

Tried to buy again. I linked my paypal to my ebay account first in settings.

    This time i got

To ensure that eBay remains a safe marketplace, we limit the quantity of items that can be bought or sold by a single account at one time. These limits may change over time and are determined by your previous site activity and overall performance.

Currently, your account has reached the limit for bidding and buying, but you can increase this limit by providing additional verification. Thank you for your understanding.

    Damn this is annoying!

    • I give up. I tried 3 times. Last order i used a credit card rather then paypal. All has the same error.

Not wanting to let this beat me i tried AGAIN.

Used a US Vpn. Made an ebay.com account.

Logged on. Added AU item to cart (while on ebay.com).

      Code worked.

Selected to pay by paypal. Logged in fine.

      When to pay.

      Error about buying restrictions….

      • See my post above.

  • +1

I got this deal last time but this time won't let me change country.

Creating a new account also failed for me UNTIL I used my VPN and set IP to California, then created a new account using random USA address, used my Aus shipping address and linked my normal paypal. works now

  • Created a new account discount applied but then couldn't check out because of a buying restriction on the account. Good God.

    • unlucky…

      • You’ve reached a temporary buying restriction.

You can only buy items where you can pay immediately at checkout. To continue, find an item with an immediate payment method and click on the “Add to Cart” button in the listing.

        {e56296-888297x}

  • Tried every option (including using a VPN). Nothing worked for me. Wasted couple of hours. Thanks for the effort OP and all others. At least it worked for some.

  • Got an email saying my newly created US account has been suspended due to subspecies account activity. WTF? Is it because I didn't use VPN to create US account or something?

  • I’ve bounced between Aus/USA in the past, but whether it’s temporary or not, this code won’t work in doing so.

So I created a new account from scratch with a USA primary address (and also shipping address to begin with), and then created a secondary address that was my actual one in Aus.

Doing that then allowed me to add the code successfully (where as I got the standard cannot be applied when just switching account addresses like the past). Remember you need an actual address, 123 Fake St in 90210 don’t cut it any more.

  • Didn't work after going through the relocation process. Got the coupon can't be applied error. Also created US account at ebay.com but won't let me add AU shipping address.

  • Changed more than a day ago..didnt work…

  • Not sure if something happened to my account. But i just tried applying it to a second transaction and it worked

EDIT: I did buy two things in the first transaction, however one was refunded

  • Anyone bought tech? I have a registered US address now, I am on ebay.com, price shows in US dollars, trying to buy PS4 and code doesn't work. But exclusions listed is only money, gift cards and real estate.

    • Just made a purchase myself through >video games & consoles. Only worked when I made a new account
