  • There were cheaper deals last month. Got under $600 return BNE -> NRT with a 3 day layover in KUL as well for a family of 4 over the school holiday period.

    • Which month was this specifically? December 2018-January 2019?

    • Got under$400 return flying jetstar in same period

      • +1

        when was this deal?

  • -7

    Bad Luck?????

They select high risk routes & high risk pilots.

    U make your own luck

    • -8

Well they did say full service… I guess that includes experiences like plane crashes.

        • Very naive.

        • +7

          Don't be an idiot.

If anything they'd be taking safety more seriously than the rest so as not to tarnish their image even further.

        • +9

          @ben1980:

"Being shot down" is not equal to "missing with some debris found."

One is not operator error, and one potentially is, potentially isn't.

International airlines operate hundreds/thousands of flights daily. Isolating two incidents and claiming the airline is a high-risk as a result is not a reliable track record. It's similar to suggesting people not to fly United Airlines, because you might be slammed into a New York office tower.

        • -1

@QW3RTY: "Being shot down" is worse. There is no "potentially is or isn't", flight paths are planned out. They knew what they were doing and where they were flying. They knowingly flew over an active war zone.

Isolating two incidents and claiming the airline is a high-risk as a result is not a reliable track record.

Whattt? How many incidents do you need for an unreliable track record? Especially in such a small time frame. How does the saying go? Fool me once…

On top of this apparently they have been very uncooperative with the search for debris and there seems to be some really shady sh%t going on.

    • Sigh there's always some (profanity)

  • +1

Thanks for the subscription reminder - didn't know about this feature!

  • +2

    Malaysia Airlines? Lol no thanks.

    • +15

Good, less people like you flying with them makes it a better experience for those who do.

      • -1

I’ve had my fears over them too… but i think they’ve learnt their lessons and now becoming better service.

        • questionable

        • How have they learnt?

      • what is wrong with Malaysia Airlines? Had couple of flights with them. No complaints at all ;)

        • One of their planes literally vanished a few years ago, couldn't find the wreckage.

  • +1

This is pretty tempting, as I have been considering heading over in Nov.

If it was any airline except Malaysia I would go ahead and book it, as it is I might have to think about it a bit more!

    • +3

Philippine Airlines are running a similarly priced promo at the moment.

personally i would rather go with Qantas or JAL for the direct service. Hard to justify the many extra hours of layover and gate transfers in KL or Manila to save a couple hundred bucks.

      • +11

If Qantas & JAL was the same price, i'd go with JAL. I've flown with Qantas for many routes including Japan, and after flying with JAL last year, I am converted.

The service on JAL was impeccable. Imagine missing your snack or meal because you were asleep and them wandering and seeing you awake then asking if you would like to have it now. To top it off, this was in Economy JAL not Business Class.

        • JAL and Qantas often code share the flights, so it can be a bit of a coin flip as to who you get to fly with

        • Ahaha imagine that happening on an Australian airline

        • Qantas left snacks, blankets & drinks on the seat next to me each time I was asleep on my last trip to Japan. Little different but was still nice

        • @tomkun01:
Qantas are incompetent. Left my bags on the tarmac once on a flight to NZ. CS rep said it happened all the time. Second time was when they ran out of food and gave me a cup of soup as dinner on a international flight. How hard is it to count the number of passengers on the manifest?

          Morons.

        • @Icecold5000:

They are too busy pursuing LGBTI agendas to placate their Chief Executive

        • After half a dozen SYD-TKO trips on QF/JQ I would love to fly JAL
but JAL are usually ~200AUD more than QF and they never seem to have seasonal sales
(or even email promos for their product).

        • Couldn't agree with you more! JAL's award winning economy class seats are hands down the best. https://www.jal.co.jp/en/inter/service/economy/seat/skywider…

      • I am in Perth so direct flights are out question for now - I have travelled to Japan on Qantas, Jetstar and Cathay Pacific. Cathay has definitely been my favourite so far and the shortest flight path.

Thai and Singapore are in the mid to high 700's around that time so will likely just fly Singapore if I end up going.

        • +1

I started to hate flying Cathay because of their capsule like seats which are as hard as a plank of wood.
No padding and super uncomfortable for a long haul flight.

    • Even Jetstar?

  • how much are the direct flights normally considering they are full service and at same or similar dates?

    • about 1.1k at the moment

    • Qantas was having a sale the other day for Japan. Dates in Aug/Nov this year, Jan/Feb/March, May/June 2019. Adelaide - $750 return (via Mel to Narita) or $760 (via Syd to Haneda).

  • -5

You couldn't pay me to fly Malaysian Airlines, sorry, but no deal is worth my life.

    • +5

Perhaps you should keep out of kitchens and bathrooms too.

      • -2

Sounds like your kitchen and bathroom is somewhere in South indian ocean ?

        • +1

It could be - but who really knows?

        • @Baa: then don't just wash the hands off the matter - spend more and keep looking

    • +6

Every branded car ever made is involved in accidents too. Does that mean you will never drive or get in a car again?

      • -5

You do realize it is not because of the incident itself , don't you? yes, sh*t happends, and it is not the airline's intension I guess, the matter is , one cannot just wash its hands off just like what they did , this is the part most disgusting ! Take responsibility !

        • -1

          intension

What's more disgusting is your spelling.

        • @montorola: yep, my bad,

        • +2

I guess you're right - they should take responsibility for being shot down by Russians

    • +3

Yet you'll blithely jump in a car despite thirteen thousand Australians having died on our roads in the last decade. Reckless.

      • -4

You can enjoy your logic ( and good luck with flying the airline too ) - which is not why I downvoted the deal & the airline - it just won't change the fact Malaysian Airline is simply plain irresponsible and shamfully walked away from its moral duty.

        • +6

          http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-01-10/mh370-malaysia-to-pay-…

          $200,000,000 of public money spent.
$70,000,000 of Malaysia Airlines' money spent.
          No result as of yet.

Not exactly "walking away" is it?

        • -5

@QW3RTY: simply - keep looking , the job is not done. Tell the victims'family if this is not " walking away" , what is it ?

        • +2

          @AllWins:

The investigation continues, as per the article I linked you and with regard to this more recent one. Things like this take time and there's a massive possibility the remains will never be found.

I have no idea what you want from Malaysia airlines/these private companies doing the searching.
Do you want the airline's CEO to strap on a snorkel?

        • @AllWins:

The exact coordinates of the Titanic was known when it sunk and it still took 70 odd years to actually find it. Needless to say, the vastness and depth of the ocean and the changing currents makes it akin to looking for a needle in a haystack. Nobody even knows where MH370 crashed to even begin narrowing the search conclusively. Everything has been speculation and theory. So on face value, it is unlikely to be found in the next few decades, unless technology advances to the stage that makes it possible or through some divine intervention.

      • We aren’t wired to think statistically though.

I know the risk is small, but my gut would still churn a bit getting on a Malaysian Airlines flight, even though I rationally know the risk is infinitesimally small.

That’s not how I’d like to begin a supposedly relaxing holiday, so I’d choose a different option.

        It’s illogical, but it’s how we’re wired.

        • +1

It's how *some people are wired. The majority understand that the flights perished due to deliberate human actions, and you cannot account for that on any flight.

        • @orly:

Sure, and with the recent sales on Malaysian Airlines, you get the cost benefit associated with being a super logical person. That's great!

But not everyone is the same. And it's perfectly understandable when people get a bad feeling in their gut and want to avoid flying with an airline that has had some unfortunate bad luck recently.

    • +1

Yet you continue to stand up every day, despite accidental falls as a cause of Australian deaths rising by a staggering 42% over the 5 years to 2016!

      Madman!

    • With that outlook, you probably shouldn't be flying at all.

      • -1

Read my post mate, I am not against flying , and accident does happen.

        • My comment isn't directed at your post.

        • @kpm: they’re just in a mood

  • Please note malaysia luggage policy which i dont really like to travel with them.

  • +1

We flew Malaysian airlines last year. Had no issues on the flights.

  • Anybody used these third party sites for booking? TripAdvisor reviews are pretty bad for all of them.

    • Go and price match at flight centre or sta travel

      • They do this?

    • +1

If the price is the same or only a few dollars cheaper, i'd go direct with the airline instead. Booked a flight during those VA/SIA price errors 1.5-2 years ago with a third party. If i had booked with SIA direct, i would have been able to pick my seat and gotten the voucher to use during the transit which was worth more than the discount from the third party. This site appears to ask for payment without any ability to pick seats unless it happens after payment.

  • +2

Are people really this paranoid about Malaysian Airlines? I mean, accidents can happen to any airline, and there's no obvious pattern of them being unsafe is there?

I feel like people really overblow the incidents that happened to them…

    • -1

It is not the accident itself. It is their follow up actions - they now walked away from it.

      • -2

Yeah it doesn't seem like they are doing much for the search of mh370.

You would think that they would want to find the truth..? Maybe not if it was their pilot that did it.

    • +1

Few ways to look at it though. In my opinion, if a plane disappears then the company who operates the plane should pay the cost of finding it. Instead of tax payers monies from around the world.

If I remember correctly it costed Australian Tax Payers around $100mil.

      • -7

Precisely - Australian government / taxpayer did more than anyone can ask for. It is Manalysian Airline's moral duty to finish the job -

  • +1

I actually booked this already! it was the best deal i can find for october, 30kg luggage which also includes 4 meals. one to layover country, lay over to japan and then return.

  • I didn’t really have a problem with them of late..

Until the Brisbane event the other week. No thanks. When crap like that happens, there are usually layers of problems elsewhere.

  • +2

No need to buy through them, same price on Malaysia airline's website

  • Anything over Xmas and New Year's?

  • No Sydney to Tokyo flights?

  • Is it still available?

    • Just fly Qantas for $750. Check the dates but there's a bit available.
