  • The spicy airline

    • Complimentary Lao Gan Ma (?) spicy chilli sauce available upon request during the flight.

This but legitimately, it's what they're known for. They actually go around the plane with jars and popsticks for you to add to your food if you want. Again, not making this up - flew with them to Japan last year.

        • You'd need the sauce. The food is bland unfortunately. Cabin crew is helpful tho.

  • Is there anybody trying this airline before and is it a good deal?

Yeah was reasonably impressed for the price, Melbourne to Japan around $650.

They're alright. Food was pretty good for airline food, varied and fresh feeling. This is what they're mostly known for. Although you'll pretty much just be eating the same thing each time, rice and a black bean sauce type thing. Water is rare, and they have alcohol options but it's like a thimble of wine once type thing.

Overall it was an absolute slog, took forever, in-flight entertainment was practically non-existent for English or even western content, they legitimately have pro-CCP stuff on there (i'm talking Mao docos, Xi Xingping speeches, historical dramas and dodgy-CGI childrens shows).

One of the big things is they are hyper sensitive to turbulence and make you sit with the belt on the whole time, and make announcements for this every two seconds that go for like 5 minutes in Chinese and 10 seconds in English.

They go via Chengdu airport and while it's a new airport, there was absolutely nothing there and the wait time was maybe 10 hours so incredibly mind-numbing.

Going there, it was all a fun novelty since the China factor, it's a bit wacky with their panda branding and the Szechuan chilli, but on the way back it felt like it took forever. I don't think i'd do it again.

Oh god you just reminded me of the constant announcements and product shilling on a budget flight from fukuoka to Shanghai. Short flight but it was incredibly annoying.

Just flew Singapore Airlines and they wouldn't let anyone wear headphones during takeoff and landing. That was new to me
