        Slightly ignoring some costs?

Purchase price of A320 is about 160 million dollars. Over a flying life of maybe 20 years, that works out to about $22000 per DAY.

And they didn't just buy the plane outright, they got a loan from a bank, so there's interest on top of that. And insurance too, and public liability insurance.

And maintenance. EVERY SINGLE PART of the airplane has a service life, and MUST be replaced before that expires, or the insurance becomes void. And much of the aircraft is regularly inspected for microscopic cracks using specialised equipment.

And replacement parts aren't cheap, and a lot of them are made from exotic materials. For example, jet turbine blades aren't made of ordinary metal, they're made of metal grown as a single crystal of metal, using methods similar to how the semiconductor industry makes silicon ingots.

    • Booked the direct flight from Perth to Hobart on 2 separate occasions now, both times were rerouted via Syd/Melb. Paid a premium for direct flight as well.

  • Be a spirited traveller

  • Hmmm, could be easier for me to squeeze in than Osaka this year. Book something for July. I have credit in my travel bank to use up too.

Tasmania is the most beautiful part of Australia and I recommend it to everyone.
