This event is to promote shopping in the city, not in the suburbs.

  • Did anyone purchase gc at both westfield gift card locations George street and Pitt street and get credit for both kar year? Or will we receive credit only for one?

    • Yep got it at both, so would expect it to be the same this year (hopefully)

      • Cool thanks

  • -2

Does anyone know if buying from the Microsoft Store online will trigger the credit, or do they use a different/specific biller at the physical store?

    • Buying from the Microsoft Store online won't get you the credit. Just like buying from Myer online or DJs Online won't get you the credit.

  • For those thinking of OPSM - I rang one of the OPSM stores to check if their contact lenses prices are the same as the website, which they were except they don't do promotions such as spend $200 get 20% off or subscription, therefore not really useful for contact lenses.

Get OPSM gift cards at up to four participating Melbourne OPSM stores.
Should work as all are separate locations.

      OPSM
      SHOP G046 MELBOURNE CENTRAL
      211 LATROBE ST

      OPSM
      384-386 BOURKE STREET

      OPSM
      233 COLLINS STREET

      OPSM
      SHOP 32 COLLINS PLACE
      45 COLLINS ST

I need to get some glasses but the current deal is not that good and so I’m going to hold onto the OPSM gift cards until some sort of deal like the 30% off family and friends deal comes around again.

      • +2

Just did my second of three $150 OPSM gift cards. Going to third store now. No issues and have gotten all of my Amex emails.

FYI I have three Amex cards.

        • Do they only have $150 gift cards? Their website is down. Thanks.

        • @Yola: it is any denomination OPSM gift card but the minimum is $20. They staff just programs it in.

I went with $150 ones as I have three AMEX cards and my wife also has three. If I could be bothered waiting I could have waited for my wife to finish work and then get a $300 gift card split across six AMEX.

Up to you how you want to do it but they are very flexible and are not prissy about splitting payments.

        • @danielh: can u use them online?

        • @Turd: haven’t bothered to try but i assume you can. Whether or not you can use more than one card at a time might be a good question though.

Personally I have now got $750 in gift cards and so I’ll just rock up to my regular opsm during the next sale and get my multifocal glasses then.

        • @danielh:
Can u still claim health insurance rebates paying via gift cards

Could someone in Sydney show me the best option to get to Westfield and Myer from Sydney Airport? And the way back. I’m heading to Sydney soon. Should I use Opal? Taxi/Uber? Or airport transfer buses? Thank you very much for help.

    • Catch the train from the airport and get off at Town Hall; you'll need an Opal card. Reverse for the way back.

      • Thanks. You know how much does it cost?

        • Depends on what time you tap on. $40 will cover both the way there and back. Or $25ish if you intend on using the Opal hack (go do some research yourself on that) …

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

Or $25ish if you intend on using the Opal hack (go do some research yourself on that) …

Heard it's no longer a thing? Recall seeing on SMH lol

        • @illumination: Still a thing as of August 13 when I used it to go to Domestic from my local train station

        • Depends if catching bus first or train direct. Cheapest possible will be about $10 return.

      • if it is with 1 hour, should be charge only 1 time as transfer? or Reverse?

        • They didn't say they were going to be in the city for less than an hour …

      • +2

Getting off at St James is the quicker option coming from the Airport to Pitt Street Mall, unless you want to do the entire City Circle loop.

        • Yeah fair call; I rarely catch the train from the airport to the city so forgot it went Museum first

        • thank you everyone. I think I will be longer than 1 hour.

    • +2

the ozbargain way is to take the 400 bus, then change around Kingsford (on Anzac Parade) to a city bus.
all other methods are expensive (relative to public bus)

      • Time it takes might be too long.

Anzac Pde is terrible during peak hours

      • Probably better to train to the nearest stations ie. Burwood/Campsie/Bexley North/Rockdale/Banksia/Arncliffe/Mascot/Bondi Junction then change to the 400 bus.

        • bus-train fare > bus-bus fare
ultimate ozbargainer doesn't change mode of transport ;)

        • +1

@battler: you and ronnknee are talking about different things without realising.

You're referring to going from airport to city.
Ronnknee suggesting going to the closest train station then changing to 400 bus is referring to going from wherever to the airport.

      • +1

You can take the 400 bus one stop from the airport to drop you off at Mascot station and then catch the train to the city from there.

Alternatively, if the bus isn't arriving soon, you can call an uber to dump you at mascot and take the bus. This method is good if you have multiple people, or have a new uber account, making it free.

      • +1

You probably didn't know this one, the 400 bus route is being truncated in a few weeks time. Two busses will be replacing the entire route, a truncated 400 will do the run from Bondi to the AirPort and a new 420 will do the run between Burwood and the Airport, however both are expected to run near or close to Mascot station.

more info here from transportinfo nsw….

        ROUTE-400

        • Existing route 400 (Burwood – Bondi Junction via Rockdale and Sydney Airport) will change to operate between Sydney Airport International Terminal and Bondi Junction only
        • If you are travelling between Burwood and Sydney Airport International Terminal you can use the new route 420 (Burwood – Eastgardens)
        • There will be no change to the current route or stops between Sydney Airport International Terminal and Eastgardens
        • Service frequency between Sydney Airport International Terminal and Bondi Junction will be every 20 minutes seven days a week and 30 mins at night
        • Journeys between Sydney Airport International Terminal and Eastgardens will benefit from increased service frequency seven days a week along with the new route 420
        • Additional services continue to run between Eastgardens and Bondi Junction
        • New overnight services will be introduced, seven days a week
        • These changes are being introduced to accommodate increased demand and to support more reliable journeys
  • No love fie brisbane

  • Will try and report back on queues for the free stuff as it happens. If others can too that would be great.

    • Thanks. I’m actually interested in when the Amex band is going to run out as I can only get to the city by 2.30 today and the Amex lounge apparently opens up at 12.

      • +1

        Still bands atm.
Soft serve was nice. They dont take a pic of u its a gif so dont stand still like I did do some funny moves.
The pink gin in a bottle was very very nice and the cupcake good too.
I won a mor crystal body scrub and 6 month vogue sub from the vending machine.
Amex lounge has donuts and sushi and alcohol. I think its free but still in the queue.
Overall queues are bigger than they were earlier and there is a bit of a wait. 10-15 mins for the smaller places and a solid 20+ for the lounge.

  • Does anyone recall whether last year they had two locations listed for Westfield gift cards and David Jones?
There is only one location listed this year so I'm wondering if it means we can only get the gift cards from one place as opposed to previous years

    • +3

Did you actually bother looking at the participating retailers in the link? https://www.americanexpress.com/au/credit-cards/membership-b…

      • I did actually and it only has one location for Sydney (ie. Pitt Street mall)

If i recall previously, they had Market Street and Pitt Street listed for David Jones so you could purchase giftcards from both locations and get two lots of credits back. Same with Westfields, you could purchase from both locations in Sydney (under Myer and in Westfields).

Does anyone know if that's the same this year, two locations for Sydney?

        https://fno.vogue.com.au/retailers/david-jones/

        https://fno.vogue.com.au/retailers/westfield-gift-cards/

        • Same

        • +3

Did you bother clicking on the link I provided where all partipating retailers are listed? I see three entries for DJs and two Westfield ones … (In other words, you're using the wrong link)

    • Two same as last year

  • Gold and red eftpos cards are practically the same?

    • Gold costs $4.95 and red is $2.95 but yeah in theory they should be the same

    • the gold one is basically an eftpos card which works outside of Westfield too.

      • last year purchased the red one and was able to use it everywhere. Hopefully its the same this year.

        • +2

The cards are identical in terms of where they can be used. The only difference is the colour and the additional fee for the gold one. It is just a marketing ploy.

        • can someone confirm that this is the case for this year?

        • @melty: I got red yesterday, tomorrow will try to use it at Woolworths to top up my opal. I'll let you know

        • @dragonindespair: memorise pin, swipe, press savings, enter pin. Done.

          Will work.

        • +2

@melty: ok just came back from woolies, yes the RED card works.
          toped up my opal $50

        • +1

@Turd: yes works. but not sure why i have to memorise, the pin is there just scratch with your nail

        • @melty: really funny because 2 days ago i specifically asked the girl at the booth (microsoft side) whats the difference and she said red only within westfield. BS

        • What do you mean by everywhere? Just at woollies Coles or like 7 eleven and other shops too?

        • @tghtarse: everywhere as everywhere they accept EFTPOS

  • +2

About 10 people in queue at 9:35 am - Westfield market st

    • +1

      Damn

    • Did they ask for your id when you bought gift cards? Previous years they asked for it, wondering if they are doing the same thing this year.

      • They were not… yet…

Might happen once some scammers use fake credit cards or stolen ones, though why would you bother.

        • I was asked for ID and the lady thoroughly checked my 2 cards provided crosschecking the names… Also, I have a suspicion that they wont allow mobile payments unless you have the card present as the guy in front was asked to produce the physical card after trying apple pay

        • @krazek: Pitt st ?

        • @spk: This was market st

        • +1

@krazek: That's the whole point of mobile payment. What's the point bringing the card.

          lol

          *shrugs

        • +3

So nice of the scammers, helping their victims earn statement credits. /s

        • @Turd: Yea I know right. I should've tried myself, someone needs to try a mobile payment and report back

        • +2

@krazek: I did mobile, no issues technically, issue is with the staff, just batt your eye lids and smile then go tap.

        • @krazek: I used Apple Pay in Westfield Pitt street, at 10:30 am, 6 cards used to purchase one $300 red gift card saved a lot card fee. But faced some issues, one card charged twice, after contacted Amex, got a refund from Westfield. Their pos system is terrible, keep disconnected, waste me half hour. No ID needed at the beginning, but changed when I left due to the peak.

        • +1

          @zhaoweizhi:
It was you holding the line and they not allowing split payment anymore after you

        • I saw you this morning, seriously. I went to the other lady and she will not do $300 gift card. She said only 2 splits per transaction. So I have to do $100 split with 2 cards.

Zhaoweizhi - you were wearing a red top :)

        • @zhaoweizhi: I just had the same issue with the duplicate charge from Google pay! So annoying. I might try contacting AMEX too. What was the reason you said about the duplicate charge?

  • Limit 2 split

    • Ah is it ? :(
      Pitt or market ?

      • Both. Don't bother. Too much time wasted go quieter time

        • Thanks mate
Whole purpose of lining up on day 1 is if they could allow multiple cards

        • +1

@spk: they will and staff were trained on it all. But max 2 cards per split

        • @Turd: looks like they’re fully trained this year, unlike 2017

    • Do cards need a pin or tap ok?

      • +2

        Tap ok.

    • pretty much 2 splits per card and 1 gift card per person…

      • 1 gc per person is to reduce the lines I think.

Do it quick, dont ask for the box and you can be in and out quickly.

        • yep just have to line up again for more gift cards

    • There's also a concierge desk on Level 6 in Westfield Sydney if the Level 2 queue is too long

      • too late, it's full now ;)

      • Went there at 3pm - there eftpos machine is broken.

    • Limit of 2 split for where?

      • Sir Frank Lowy's company

    • did you get confirmation emails from both pitt and market?

      • yes

        • Thanks. so the same card from pitt and market gives you $40 credit?

        • +1

          @Sharp: Yes

        • @Turd: cheers

    • At the beginning, no limit, I used 6 Amex to purchase one $300 red Westfield red gift card by Apple Pay, only$2.95 card fee, it is the staff’s rule due to the peak, not the system or Westfield policy.

  • +1

Reminder to those that have DJ Welcome offer, it is stackable and you have to buy DJ $50 gift card today

  • As mentioned above, only could get a $100 split over 2 cards at Westfield. No point going now if you have >2 cards, you'll need to go back anyway

    • Can't you do multiple transactions anyway ie. $100 over 2 cards many times?

      • That's what I was expecting, but the woman said I can only buy 1 gift card

        • I see, probably to process the queue more quickly. Did they at least clarify that you could just line up again?
