Fine for securing against opportunistic theft, but with only 1000 combinations, not that hard to try them all. I imagine even faster for someone with a pair of bolt cutters.

Kindly Note: The original password is 000.

Many people wont change it either…

I won't so they think I did and then they will try 000 the last. Passwception.

        • Actually, bruteforcing these locks start from 000. Then 01x, 02x, 03x and so on.

          @pupkin: Thanks. Changed to 999.

@ronnknee: 500 will give you better odds, as some thieves could work their way backwards. Downside is it halves the cracking time.

        • @happykamper: I always start at 500 which cracking, and set my password to 499

          Why?

        • @slipperypete: I start at 500, because most people set their combo to 500.
I set mine to 499 because most thieves start at 500 and work their way up.

it takes no more than 10 mins to get through all 1000 combinations

1000 combinations, not that hard to try them all

You don't have to try them all, these sort of locks can be opened in seconds.

Keep the shackle tight by pulling it, then start at the bottom and rotate the numbers.

You will feel it click into place as you find each number.

    • You don't even need to do that - the latch can be twisted off by hand. Anyone could remove a lock like this in 10 seconds.

  • Grabbed one. Cheers OP.

a lock this cheap would be easy to open without any tools

        That's unOzBargainist!

  • useful to stop pickpockets or people slipping something into your bag.
A serious thief can just cut your bag open with a knife.

    • I have tabs for my bumbag and I loop them into each other a couple of times. It stops anyone being able to unzip my bag without me knowing. It is also made from pretty heavy canvas so cutting it open would be hard. The third security feature is the bumbag is so crammed with crap if you cut it then it will be obvious when everything tumbles out onto their foot.

Passed this time , not strong Enough for locking anything but for keychain . The cross looks like TSA look alike .

  • Used to have an identically looking lock from Reject Shop. That one was very easy to bend to open, then just bend back.

Going through security at an airport I had to remove something from my bag to put in a tray - but I had zip tied it. They took me aside and said its pointless to ziptie/padlock and demonstrated why: he grabbed a ballpoint pen and pushed the nib into the middle of the zip. Bit of pressure and it separated easily. Whats more is they can just run the zip back over to do it up again - no evidence the bag was opened and the zip tie untouched.

  • Thanks. I realise there are many people complaining about this as the lock is not robust enough. Given its 75c its really great as a deterrent only to stop opportunist theft but really not anything to stop someone who wants to steel. Will be great for the the "look" of a lock….thanks!!
