Bought this machine for about $450 18 months ago. Initially I wasn’t a big fan of LG products but found this to have great reviews. We wash about 2 loads of clothes weekly and the machine is still near-new. Compared with previous Bosch machines I’ve also used, this one is significantly quieter in operation and washes clothes very well, despite us using the quick wash function exclusively. Would highly recommend, and at $380, seems like a steal!

    • +2

+1. We always run our LG on quick wash as well. Very quiet and does a great job.

    • 18 months to go is still very early to tell

    • I have heard quick wash wears out the bearing quickly especially on direct Drive washers

      • +3

Excellent, quicker than 10 years means you get a new one for free, right?

        • +2

Read the 10 years 'part' warranty not including labour and bearings are normally not included either. Just the motor.

      • My LG washing machine has been running on Quick Wash for 10 years and still works……

        • Top or front loader?

        • @techno2000: congrats then. My belt drive Electrolux died of worn bearing after 8 years and now got a F & P direct drive. Not that I have experienced quick wash wears the bearing quicker but the salesperson told me that anyway I don't use quick wash but soak mode. Have watched video know how to replace the bearing for this model now and will see how long this will last.

  • Was looking at this washing machine but according to Choice it rates very well but also has very high running costs.

    • Running costs? In what way? Water or electricity?

      • +2

Running costs: "This is an estimate of how much it will cost over 10 years for water and electricity if you wash a daily equivalent of one load on a 'normal' cycle. Costs are based on 30c/kWh for electricity and $2 per 1000L for water. Cost doesn't include detergent which can make up a third of the running cost. A washer generally makes up around 0.53% of annual household energy usage. Look for the smallest number in this column so you aren't paying as much in the long run."

This one is $1070 compared to the Haier HWM75-B12266 for instance which is $473.

        • How do you know that? I think we just choose the high star rate machine, and there is not much different from them at all

        • @n2h: I have a subscription to Choice Magazine and that's what it says

        • +2

Who washes on a normal cycle without selecting cold? There is near zero reason to wash warm or hot these days.

        • @thecrevis: just look at the energy rate and water rate, more than 4 stars for both is ok. Even the choice magazine, they don’t test it in a year to get that results, they just estimated it from the energy rate

        • 3.5 star v 4 star- I'm baffled as to how you could arrive at more than double the running cost.

        • +1

It may be higher but you have to put this in perspective.

You might run a washing machine for 30 minutes per day, or a cooktop 30 minutes per day, but heating and cooling you may run 2400 watts for 12 hours per day. This running cost variations for a washing machine are minor in terms of the overall household budget.

After dealing with washing machines for decades the number one issue is that it works.

        • That's a lot of washing though. Maybe for a 5 person family. We do 2-3 loads a week here. Still, thanks for the information.

  • Search the Bosch one, $566 after sale, it is better than LG

    • +1

the salesperson said Bosch made in china isnt Bosch made in germany….

      • +1

Some higher end Bosch are still made in Germany
Edit: got what you said now. Agree

      • If Lg is not made in Korea, the Bosch is still better even though it made in China. The Bosch is 4.5 water star, 4 star energy, this LG is 4/3.5. That means higher running cost in long time

    • Which model?

      • Do browse the goodguys site and choose the price low to high, you will see it

  • Any recommend a fridge in this sale? Looking at the Samsung SR316S9TC 318L Top Mount Refrigerator

  • There's always some bosch, LG or Fisher paykel front loader washing machines in the budget range around $400-$600. I was in Aldi the other day and couldn't work out why anyone would buy the crap top loader they are selling? Uses a lot of water, only 700rpm spin, etc. For marginally more, can get a great front loader!

    • Depending on the design of a laundry area, some areas aren't able to accommodate front loader.

  • Should I do C&C or slug out $75 for the shipping?

    • +1

Generally they will also take away the old one as well as install the new one

Considering a fl weighs anywhere up to 100kg , spend the $75

      • Just bought. Do they take away old machine for free when delivering? Seems to be premium delivery only which is extra $20 but not something you can pre buy on ebay.

  • I spent a couple of hours doing research cause i need a new washing machine. I read that may people have issues with the LG brand, this model inclusive. In the USA they even have a lawsuit going against them. You can google "water hammer lg" plenty of results will show up. Even on product review, there are many people complaining about the same issue. Worth having look before buying it. I am thinking of getting the $599 whirpool 7.5kg machine or the the more expensive 8.5kg. They seem to have the best reviews

    • Can you link please?
Here is one from product reviews

      • just google for "water hammer LG". this is what it looks like: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7tBP-0mI7c and apparently it damages the plumbing
I am considering the whirpool machine as i said before, it has the least complaints. Another thing worth taking in consideration when buying one of these machines is the water rating. It is true it will use less water, but you also need water to wash the detergent off your clothes. My point is that if it is 5 star rating I would rather stay away from it, or you will end up washing your clothes twice and use way more water than a 3 star rating machine.

        • +1

You can get attachments that sit between the washing machine and tap that soften the on/off change in pressure. As @J5 says below, it's about pipe diameters and water pressure, etc. Chances are your dishwasher and even toilet cisterns will cause similar effects and you'll hear a similar jarring ring in the pipes each time they turn off the water supply. Washing machines (esp. front loaders) are more noticeable for it because they do several short bursts of water in their cycles.

But by all means, be an American and sue somebody else for it rather than cater for your own environmental requirements.

    • +5

Wow I have read some crap in my life

      USA and ambulance chasers

Water hammer is not caused by the washing machine , Its an effect that occurs because your plumbing in your house is shit

If you have poor plumbing , you can get the same results by turning a tap off quickly , especially if you have high water pressure which is the other reason to get water hammer

I have an LG washer from 13 years ago still going strong. I want to buy this 'just in case' my old one breaks down so I have a spare. But somehow that ethos works much better with my 20 pairs of spare shoes.

    • +1

The new washer probably cheaper to run thought. Every wash you run on your new washer = save a couple cent?

    • +1

      If it ain't broke… :)

      • I am OzBroke!

    • +2

Yeah thats the problem with washing machines and Refrigerators when they cross 10 years old. They may last another 5 years or they may be on their way out. When it dies you need one almost immediately and cant wait for ebay 20% sale to come along. So you need to go to Good Guys etc and pay full price.

Both my washing machine and Refrigerator are 10 years old.

Is it better to wait for it to die and pay full price for a replacement or buy a spare one for much cheaper.Unless you have a huge house i dont think people can keep spare washing machines and refrigerators.

      • do they only average 10-15 years? my fridge is second hand, and I've had it for 7 years .. I'm pretty sure it's closer to 20 years old … still seems fine. I mean it makes some strange noises when cooling and one tradey said that noise means it's about to die, but it's been making that noise for probably the whole 7 years.

I have a lg wd13020d, which i bought 7 years ago. Very happy so far. As its a front loader just make sure to run the drum clean cycle regularly.

Good Guys a.k.a Shifty Guys sold us the SMEG CS9GMXA oven (1/6/18) was a bargain at 3080.00 (retail 3299.00) less than 2 weeks its on their site for 2713.00. People don't rush on the first discount you see like we did. we lost 367.00 dollars from GG. when I spoke to the prospect store NSW they brushed us off. not even with a small fraction coupon or anything. I am devastated. Never set foot in their store again.

  • Ordered one yesterday, going to CC today!

    • Hello there good Sir. Would you be kind enough to let me know dimensions of the box pls :)

I just ordered one too for CC, just wondering if i could fit it in the back of an SUV.

        • +2

          @lordra: ~60kg

        • Legend, thanks mate!

  • Purchased - thanks OP

  • Mine delivered today - Just dumped in Box in Laundry area - Was originally planning on pickup but the store that had one left in stock was about 25km away ( 50km round trip ) so decided to pay the $50 for delivery. Not hard to set up and get running but seemed to take a while to a Quick "cottons wash". Also forgot to change water temp to cold so was suprised when it finished and I pulled out quite hot towels etc.
