Please note that you may have issues operating this device with your mobile phone provider in Australia. Please see the AMTA mobile security guidelines for more information.

Also note that jailbreaking your iPod Touch may also be required for this device to work. In most instances, this is likely to void your warranty for your iPod Touch.

Damn when did these come out?

    • about 11th. Jan. 2011

  • vid calling?

    • has apple allowed facetime over 3g?

      • +1

You can get it to work if you jailbreak (which u would anyway if u want to use this)

    • don't support vid calling

  • someone needs to make one for android devices. i'm raging at my droid being cdma only. hopefully someone will, following the release of the galaxy player.

    • +2

      Haha that's funny
The reason why no one is going to make one for android devices is because there isn't a uniform shape. iPods work because there's litterally millions of them all the same shape roaming around the world and there's a market for it.

      • bluetooth

        • +1

What about bluetooth? Bluetooth has nothing to do with why they don't have a cause to make one fro android devices.

        • +1

gps (just throwing out random words)

        • a uniform shape would not be needed if data were to be transmitted wirelessly like through bluetooth or wifi.

        • @wang yes it would otherwise how would the case fit on the device? If you say let it be seperate then that defeats the purpose.

        • no i'm pretty sure the main purpose of it is to add cellular capabilities to your non cellular capable device. The fact that it's structured as a case is an added bonus.

        • The point of adding cellular capabilities to an iPod touch is so taht you can have either:
          a) a cheap iPhone
          or
          b) remove the need for you to carry an mp3 player and a phone

Why would you need this if you'd have to carry a second bulky device anyway. Besides if this isn't incorporated into a case then it's not turning your "non cellular capable device" into a cellular capable device, it's merely "thethering a cellular capable device that's not even a proper phone to your "non cellular capable device". This defeats the purpose of such a device.
I know you want to get your CDMA only android phone to work in Australia but honestly there isn't a market big enough for such a device designed for your phone for it to happen.

        • yeah so i was saying that the galaxy player release might increase the chance of someone making that product

  • This has got to be one of the top ten coolest gadget invented for 2011. (I've actually hear about it since last year.)

    • Yeah this type of gadget was invented ages ago.

Also I do believe this is a knock off.
The original Apple Peel 520 doesn't support 4the Gen. And there is meant to be a release that supports 4th Gen coming out this month (but it looks like it's called the C Peel, or maybe the 520 again… not sure my info's a little sketchy)

  • Did some research, appears that overall C Peel (by Comming) is by far the best out of them all. GPRS & Audio Quality wise. Qpeel doesn't have working GRPS, and Yosion Apple Peel has bad audio.

    Illegal import.
    No IMEI number.
    No A-Tick, etc.

I think that the Apple 30pin connector would be unlicensed.

    • +1

      Illegal import.
      No IMEI number.

I tried to do a search about the legalities of this, but I may have not looked hard enough. Do you have a source to justify this claim by any chance?

This was in the news quite some time back, but there's no mention if it's going to be available in Australia:
      http://www.news.com.au/technology/smartphones/apple-peel-wid…
      http://www.theage.com.au/digital-life/mp3s/apple-peel-transf…

      No A-Tick, etc.

From ACMA's guidelines, it is not mandatory for mobile phone devices to be A-ticked if it's imported for personal use.

        You edited your post..

"it is not mandatory for mobile phone devices to be A-ticked if it’s imported for personal use."

A tourist can import a mobile phone/telecoms. device for use while in Australia. If it meets A-Tick requirements/standards it may be connected to an Australian carrier (obviously impossible to police). It may not be sold or supplied in Australia, and must be taken out of Australia when the visitor departs (or it must be sent out of Australia, or destroyed).

In any case, this device does not appear to have a valid IMEI number.

        • Total agree with you. No IMEI, users need to jailbreak the ipod to use it, that is supporting pirating software and now pirating hardware. It also violating Apple's spirit, which is to have high profit margin for all products.

        • It is at best a $15 - $25 device.

So there is a high profit margin.

This tinydeal business seems a bit suspect to me.

Their Hong Kong address (just the 8/F) appears to be used by hundreds of businesses/companies, as well as a few scammers.

I can't locate their Shenzen address, and the UK one is a mail drop ->

Yes, to remove a colon. :)

. If it meets A-Tick requirements/standards it may be connected to an Australian carrier (obviously impossible to police)

Taken directly from ACMA in my link above:

          Mobile phones

Australia operates mobile telecommunications services using two digital technologies: 3G and GSM (Global System for Mobiles).

A mobile phone for personal use may be brought into Australia and connected to a mobile telecommunications network provided the phone meets Australian standards. If you are thinking about bringing a mobile phone back from overseas with you for personal use, check with your carrier or service provider before you take the trip. Some features available on a mobile phone purchased overseas may not be supported by an Australian carrier and may not be available within Australia. There are no labelling requirements for a mobile phone imported for personal use by this method.

Now what the Australian standards are, I guess that's left to be debated.

this device does not appear to have a valid IMEI number.

Perhaps this is a question for the rep. Torben, do these units have IMEI numbers?

For now, I'll put a mod's note up to warn everyone about the possible IMEI (or lack of) issue. Or if someone is able to provide a reliable source where this is illegal for use in Australia, I'll remove the post.

"provided the phone meets Australian standards"

"Now what the Australian standards are, I guess that’s left to be debated."

Australian Telecommunication Standards for Mobile Telephone devices are laid out in the A-Tick compliance files.

The only IMEI numbers I have seen on devices of this type were fake IMEI numbers.

I am sure that Torben (if he tells the truth) will confirm that this device either has no IMEI number, or caries a fake IMEI number.

Note: that Torben 'sort of' admitted that this device is not 3G as stated originally, but only a 2G device.

          Gravatar
"Are you sure it supports 3g? appears it is only GPRS/GSM,"

          Torben
          "I’m sure it doesn’t support 3g"

      • Torben has admitted that these devices have no IMEI numbers.

    • Yes, I need to confirm whether Qpeel have IMEI number
I will contact the manufacturer. Thx

      • "Yes, I need to confirm whether Qpeel have IMEI number
I will contact the manufacturer. Thx"

        No stock, huh?

Might also want to ask if they have a license to use that 30pin connector.

Can you confirm that all of your street addresses are just 'mail drops'?

Perhaps the Shenzen address is 'real'?

        • Strangely enough about the IMEI, these units should be sold in China. It is also illegal in China to use a phone which doesn't have a IMEI. The punishments there are even more severe than Australia in regards to no IMEI phones.

        • There is no IMEI number yet. This is not a mobile phone, just a MP3 player accessory. It is not easy to apply IMEI number on such accessories. Yosion Technology also replyed that they plan to apply IMEI. If you see any IMEI on such accessories that must be fake.
The Shenzen address is our Contact Address. It is for the return of the goods.

        • Torben wrote:-

It takes a SIM card. It is required to have an IMEI number. For sale/supply in/to Australia it is required to have an A-Tick, a Supplier's Number, and a responsible person as the compliance holder.

Are you now admitting that none of the addresses on your site are actual business addresses? So they are all just 'mail drops'? Not that there is anything 'wrong' with that.

2 models of this type of device already sold by dealextreme-

    Yoshian Peel $60
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.48203

    Isky Peel
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.50364

does this model resolve the volume issues experienced by previous models

    • According to Comming (makers of Isky or other wise known in china as C Peel), they aren't sending any Isky units to Deal Extreme, and a heap of people has been waiting weeks for it, however hasn't been dispatched, although their website stating 4-7days.

Yosian is cheap at the moment, because in a few weeks their 2nd generation peel will be released for only slightly more expensive (prob around $80-90).

    cpeel, qpeel, uh… confused.
    tempted to buy one though.

    • Just made by different companies. (eg. competition)
From what i read, the software and hardware on the C Peel/Isky Peel, is superior to the current Yoshion/Qpeel software.
Qpeel doesn't even have GPRS working yet.

  • I am happy to buy one as long as it works as a basic fone & SMS ….. cheap option for my daughter as a novelty toy who has been nagging me for an Iphone 4.
Torben, Any chance for for an additional Battery as Isky Peel version comes with 2 batteries (if not how much extra or the 2nd battery) and what would be the weight of the unit itself including battery?
For me $70 it is not a bad deal…..as long as it serves the purpose it was marketed!

    • well dont forget you must jailbreak your iphone first :)
maybe mod can put that in big word up there so people aware.

    • I'm sorry, the manufacturer provide only one battery.

  • this is so suspect. Probably just a cheap clone of the Apple Peel 520.
Not to mention the real Apple Peel 520 is cheaper than this on eBay.

  • No love for ipod touch 1st gen again ~ I thought 1st gen and 2nd gen has the exact same hardware apart for the bluetooth and the curved back? Where is the love?
