Archer D7 does not have VDSL. You need VDSL to use NBN.

not really, you only need VDSL for FTTN

You need VDSL to use NBN

You need a VDSL modem to use FTTN/FTTB. All other technologies of 'NBN' (FTTP/FTTC/HFC/Fixed Wireless/Satellite) only need a router with a WAN port.

        • Oh? :o
So I could even use my shitty existing modem/router for FTTC?

        • @havoc-aus: If it has a WAN port it should be fine, some ISP's like TPG (and the ones they own such as iiNet and Internode) require a router that can do VLAN Tagging, but they're the only ones I know of off the top of my head.

        • @Porthos: hmm I don't think it has a wan port xD guess I'll just buy the other modem/router from officeworks ;)

        • @havoc-aus: It has a LAN port that can be configured to be a WAN port if ADSL is not required. (The Archer D7 that is)

    • This modem has a better wifi but it doesn't support NBN FTTN/VDSL

      • Thanks guys, that's what I needed to know ;) My area is gonna have FTTC soon!

        • Lucky you, FTTC is better than FTTN I heard.

  • I'm surprised this is still being sold.
I purchased mine a few years ago now (great modem router by the way)

some people unfortunately are stuck on ADSL2+ FOREVER!!!!!

  • What's the point of an expensive router if australian internet sucks?

Bought this modem/router a while back and I have to say it is terrible for what you expect at that price range.

The 5 GHz sucked and I had constant disconnects on various devices. The firmware updates are a massive shit show as well, just look at forums.

I've gone back to my 7yo Billion 7700N and my net is more reliable.

I also bought this modem at the same time I moved into a new house ,and had constant drop outs .

I assumed it was a Telstra issue, after many painful phone conversation with their overseas Tech support , they finally agreed to send a technician to my home.

The end result was that the Telstra line was working fine , the cause was my piece of crap new TP Link modem , took it back to Officeworks and exchanged it for a Netgear , and haven't had a drop out since.

      • which netgear did you get?

        • I got the Netgear R7000P Nighthawk AC2300

    • Agreed Ive turned off my 5ghz in my business because of how bloody unreliable the router became. Latest firmware has fixed the problem.

    • They "fixed" the 5GHz drop out issue (caused by Google casting devices) with the latest beta firmware. Although it stopped the drop outs, the 5GHz network is still a pos. Hate this modem router!

  • I got this awhile ago. Works pretty good.

Just make sure you update the firmware. Sorted my problems out.

  • What about the TP-Link AC3150 ??

How would the TP-Link AC3150 compare to the Netgear Nighthawk X6?
