      IPA - As a public accountant they are leaps and bounds above CPA on all fronts. In the first 6 months of being a member the IPA came and visited my practice to get an understanding of our firm. Not once in the 40 years of being a CPA did they ever show such interest (until I stopped paying their fees).

  My old boss once told me the CPA business is the easiest business to be in. Pay $750+ a year (to call yourself a CPA), then you have to complete CPD hours as well

  When you think about it, what do you really get out of the membership fee?

      Back in the days, you can't enroll in CA unless you are employed in a CPA/CA Firm hence people say CA is better than CPA. CA have now removed that requirement to match CPAs which kinda ruins their reputation a bit.

    You get a job out of it. Most recruiting agents and employers ask for CPA or CA qualifications for all but entry level jobs. I personally don't see any value in it except for being able to apply for certain jobs.

  The platinum edge presents good value for $150 and you get $200 travel credit. That being said, the Amex travel site isn't always the cheapest so you get about $100 - $150 real value out of the $200 travel credit.
  Plus there's all those bonus offers with retailers all year round and shop small in November. If you're going to be spending money, might as well be using Amex and getting points / deals out of it.

  Only on the fist year you can say free of annual fee as long as you spend $750 for the first 3 months
  The following yr, you need to pay annual fee of $149 for as long as you are cpa member

  If you get the platinum charge card you can apply for a reserve card for free which gives you a second $400 travel credit.

  can come in handy if your a big spender as it doesn't have a limit on the number of 2 points for $1 spend you can earn.

  So for platinum edge I think its best to choose ascent program and use your $200 travel credit and MR points then call up and switch to the Qantas program later on. can anyone confirm if you will still earn 3 Qantas points per dollar spent at supermarkets? also can existing amex card members apply and still for the first year get the $149 fee refunded as long as you spend $750 within the first 3 month? can non cpa members apply ? I have a basic cpa id no. but on the application form it asked for member (cpaa) ID but says optional so If one leaves it blank will they call up and ask for it later on?

    Interestingly, this deal is now expired for the ICAA but not the AMA or CPAA.
