    $22 US here

    Why is this a bargain?

    • Is that the price for a single-size order, delivered?

Just curious for those who neg'd @seb for that comment - can you explain why?

As his point is very valid - the link by @jv isn't for ordering a single item. So pretty valid point@seb raises.

All that said I suspect these are very ordinary binocs.

    Quality of binoculars varies wildly.

You absolutely can get bargain binocs, but you're just gambling if you pick them from a random web site. This could be a great pair but you just don't know. BAK4 is good (better glass).

If you want them for Astronomy, get 7x50 to 10x50. The first number is the magnification. Any less than 7 is not ideal, and could be aimed at kids. Any more than 10-12 and forget hand holding them unless you like looking at a shakey sky. The second number is the size of each front lens in mm. Bigger is heavier but also you double this number and you quadruple the light. 42 is a bit too small for astronomy, which really requires capturing as much light as possible.

Here's a talk I gave on purchasing binoculars. The general concepts are still current but the specific models either can't be bought or are hard to find 6 years later.

If you're buying online, look for a model with plenty of reviews.

  • Cheap binoculars are ok as kids toys or paperweights. Get a decent set if you do not want to be disappointed.
