Please do not subscribe to this offer, solely for the Netflix offer. As with my Aussie Broadband and TPG posts, obviously each provider has varied pricing with some much cheaper than others, it really depends on your needs and your mileage based on the services available in your area. The main appeal of Vodafone NBN at the moment is their instant connect and 4G Backup system, especially useful for those not on FTTP during a power outage (Will still need means to power on the modem and router to utilise the 4G Backup during a power outage (e.g. UPS/Home Battery Backup/Compatible Battery Bank/Generator). Other things to consider when picking a service provider may include their international routing/backhaul, customer service, price, contractual/setup fees, profitability and longevity of a provider and whether they prioritise/shape certain traffic (net neutrality).

As pointed out by wfdTamar:

The recently posted Telecube offering is also worth considering for those not needing limitless quota.

So effectively $72/$92 per month after the value of the Netflix is taken off.

Better to get the 1Tb Telecube plans below and buy your own Netflix (unless you think you're going to need more than 1Tb during peak hours).

Agreed - and monthly contract compared to 2 years with Voda, so if your connection is atrocious or a better deal comes along, it's easy to bail out.

On a semi-not-really-slightly-related note, am keen on their new Vodafone TV though (released on Wednesday apparently):

Agreed i am not a big fan of 24m contracts on NBN
I personally would not choose any plan that locked me in.

        In saying that however:
Vodafone does have a Satisfaction Guarantee of 30 Days.
Vodafone modem has 4G Back up (so if NBN goes down you get a 12/1 connection on 4G)
        Vodafone has instant connect (4G)
Vodafone CVC Ratio is low compared to some low cost providers.

FYI you can buy the Vodafone TV even if you are not a Vodafone customer

        • Can go on month to month for $150 upfront.. But no netflix subscription

      • am keen on their new Vodafone TV

        competition for fetch mini?

        • For sure - IMO, it looks to be decent competition to all current media players / STB's (Fetch, Mi Box, Foxtel Now Box, Apple TV, Shield, Telstra TV etc).

  • The main appeal of Vodafone NBN at the moment is their instant connect and 4G Backup system, especially useful for those not on FTTP during a power outage

What's fttp got to do with a power outage? I don't think you understand what it is, both ways you lose power to all your devices. 4g backup will only be ok if your connection goes down, not the power. Fttp battery backup isn't going to power your router and won't get you online

FTTP connection will still be live during a power outage. If power outages are common in your area and internet is a priority, you can still utilise a FTTP connection using a UPS, a solar battery system or a generator. This was also possible with ADSL2+ due to the legislated requirements to have phones lines live even during power outages (USO).

For other connection types (excluding Sky Muster), the NBN will be down regardless, meaning even if you have the means to power on the modem and router by batteries or generator, the NBN will not be live, so the 4G backup would be useful in this scenario.

no, it wont. You have no power to the NTD.

you can still utilise a FTTP connection using a UPS, a solar battery system or a generator

this is the case for anything where you have no power.

This service needs to be used with a telephone that does not require mains power to be able to operate during a blackout. Unless you have battery backup and a corded phone correctly connected, your phone won’t operate in a blackout.

so unless you have a Telstra hard wired telephone, you're out of luck. Got a cordless phone? great, battery backup isn't going to work. Got a modem? good, it's also going to not work. Got a computer? good, you can't use it you have no power.

how do you get electricity to your Vodafone NBN device to use the 4G backup sim? oh yeah, let me just go find a petrol generator and start it up.. said no one ever

        • no, it wont. You have no power to the NTD.

The FTTP connection itself will still be live during a standard power outage, you are correct in that you still need means to power on the NTD and router for FTTP.

this is the case for anything where you have no power.

Unfortunately, only FTTP and Sky Muster NBN Services can still be live during a standard power outage the other services cannot per NBN.

Generally, for areas of consistent power outages, if one would be in that unfortunate scenario and in need of some source of backup for internet, then using a UPS or solar battery backup with say a laptop isn't a bad idea. Petrol generators are really a last resort thing.

standard netflix so 720p no way is it worth it.

    • +1

You actually get a voucher to apply to your Netflix account which is $167.88 (12m of Standard) if you are on the higher quality plan this would cover you for 9m of your plan. So its up to you how you use it.
