  • this is valid for 7 days usage in japan only right? do you have any 10+ days usage sim for japan?

    • Hey Kchibi7,

Spot on! We don't have anything that will last longer than 7 days, the only thing I could recommend would be to purchase x amount of SIM cards if you see value in that!

      -Aidan

  • +1

Would be interested in one with unlimited or more data and 21+ days usage

    • +1

      Hey willtran1!

we'll be trying to source Japan SIMs with longer validity! This is all we've got for now :)

      -Aidan

      • You could try and cut a deal with Aeon, last time I was living there they were the cheapest long term post paid.

    • was actually looking at sims last night and found this on ebay:
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/302223689038

I'm going to japan in mid may for 2 weeks and this seems like the best bang for buck option at the moment

Hopefully another 10% ebay deal pops up soon so i can get it cheaper

      • +2

Not good at all. I bought from them a few months back. In their T&C's:

If you exceed the applicable data usage limits, your wireless data service will be down throttled (to 256kbps download speed) for the remainder of the day, or the period specified.

We got throttled every day after between 100-300mb and it was shockingly slow after that. Worse than 256kbps.

Their support was great though. They did apologize and offered a refund (I just wanted to give them an FYI, I didnt expect, nor ask for one) so can't fault the eBayer at all. Just thought you should be aware of what my experience

        • Thanks for the heads up!

  • Thanks OP. I like the product (and the price after discount) but need something to cover a trip for 11 days (inclusive). Any suggestion, other than getting two which is way too costly (for 3 sets of 2 sims in my case). Also, I understand it is a data only sim (I used s8milar offerings before) so was unable to make local phone calls (for restaurant reservation, etc.). Is there any way to get this covered.

    • Appreciate the response Gleung!

Right now, we don't have anything that will last longer than 7 days. Honestly, the only thing I could really recommend would be to purchase a SIM from another vendor. We'll be trying our best to source a SIM with a longer validity, but this is all we have for now.

From my knowledge, a lot of Japan SIM cards are Data only and aren't inclusive with calls/texts. I'll try sort something out!

      Thanks for the support <3

Hey Rep, this is a great deal and will looking out for you next time I head to Japan.

I'm going to Vietnam in late June to early July. Any chance you have any SIM cards I can grab before I go?

    • Hey nultma! Thanks for the support you legend :)

We'll be trying our best to source South-east Asia over the next few months.

    • It may not work for you but I asked our food tour guide - day 2 in our case - to help buy the best value Sim/plan and activate it.

They were all too happy to do so and it removed the need to interpret VN SMS codes. Ended up with tonnes of data for hardly any money.

    • haha i just posted the same thing above! Not sure but seems like alot of positive reviews on that seller. I will be giving this one a go

      • we used the bmobile visitor sim previously, easy to buy at the airport if all else fails. so will give the op's deal a go (or the ebay one.. still haven't decided!)

        • Well going through us, I'm included in the package ;)

          -Aidan

        • will go for the ebay one coz of the 31 days period.. less time worrying about data and more time having fun :)

but definately will keep you guys in mind next time if i go for a shorter trip

        • +1

@Mines: Not a problem Mines! Hopefully we'll have something with a longer validity next time! Enjoy your trip <3
          - Aidan

    • +1

Definitely not us! Haha, however we had some people talk about this in our last post.

Be careful with the "Unlimited Data" that's posted, it's capped at 300MBs a day and the speed will be throttled down to 128Kbps after.

      Cheers,

      -Aidan

  • Oh! This is perfect for my 6 day Japan trip on May! Thank you so much!

    • Thanks for the support Monchee! <3

Be sure to give us an up-vote!

      -Aidan

  • Thanks OP. Ordered 2.

    • Really appreciate your business Bob!

      Have a great trip!

      -Aidan

  • I cannot compare value as it was over a year ago since I was in Japan, but I remember going to the Docomo Phone stand at the airport exit and purchasing a Data only sim without hassle for our 3 week stay. They kindly loaded the sim in front of my while I waited and activated the prepaid service. I am pretty certain it was under $100 AUD and came with a few gigs of data which would have lasted a whole month.

It was data only, no phone number.

    • Cheers for the Feedback Scoobth! <3

      -Aidan

      • No problem, just an FYI post for those with longer stays. It may be worth researching what the local phone companies offer for longer stays.

  • Will be using the USA one soon, any plans on bringing out an Asia (Singapore/Malaysia) sim anytime soon? Thanks lads

        • Need a SK sim here too!!

        • +1

          @Fatbo1: Working on it! :D

  • +1

Voted you up for the 'backwards' comment, and sadly it's not just sim cards that their archaic systems are unable to manage.

    • Haha Ninja you legend, thanks for the support!

      It means a lot :)

      -Aidan

    • What makes getting a sim in Japan hard?

      • -3

Erm… nothing? The "backwards" comment is probably the least truthful information in this deal. Seems designed to denigrate the Japanese purely to make this deal seem more appealing. How about next time you try promoting your post, but leave out the putdown. See if you can promote your deal on its own standalone merits.

It's super easy to get sim cards in japan - from vending machines at all the airport, to any bic/yodabashi camera store which are huge and pretty hard to miss.

That said, this price is actually pretty good. A 5gb tourist data sim card in bic camera is normally about Y3500.

Archaic systems? Try living in Melbourne!

        • +2

          Hi slknv,

Its just the salesman in me!

Genuinly though, I am not trying to put any country/race down. I've just had conversations with people who have had bad experiences, including myself personally.

          I'll take the comment down.

          Thanks for your feedback.

          -Aidan

P.S Isn't Melbourne the most livable city in the world? :P

        • +5

Are we talking from a tourist pov or actually living?

Yes Japan the land of technology, maybe if your in tourist/otakuland Akihabara, try being part of a real company there and see the predominant paper systems and old tech. From the archaic banking system, business red tape, Shiyakusho bylaws, rip off gas/power/water, extreme inheritance taxes (up to 55%). Sim plans are nothing like here, try to match a Kogan deal? Good luck, maybe in another 10 years under the ntt & softbank dominated landscape. Some things are almost comical, ie closed down a bank acc because moving back to Aus and wanted to avoid ongoing fees, was told your never welcome back because it's perceived as some kind of 'breaking ties' with the bank.

Yeah sure there's plenty of good aspects about the place that are way better, many many in fact. But after living there for a few years you start to see the deeper frustrating parts. Sadly some systems are backwards compared to here, trust me I don't want it to be that way, but it is what it is.

If you need a 21-day SIM then the B-mobile one works well:

      https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B01MSR67TT?th=1

      • +1

Funnily enough, I've used the B-mobile SIM twice… and it wasn't great.

I'm keen to try a different SIM next time.

        • Fair enough, I've also used it twice and both times was great - guess it depends where you travel within Japan?

        • @tycho:

Pretty much along the main line from Tokyo to Osaka. Haven't gone anywhere too rural…

      • I've tried to purchase it with the help of Google translate, it doesn't deliver outside Japan. How did you make the purchase?

  • Cheers OP, getting 1 now :). Will have to activate the day after arrival as there for 9 days.

    • Cheers Coops!

Make sure you snag some sweet sweet free wifi then to hold you off haha.

      -Aidan

      • +1

Just hope I don't get lost in between the free wifi's! lol

    • bought this for my trip next month.
I received my SIM card in 3 days not 9 business days and data last for 31 days.

    • That one looks better suited to my needs. Thanks!

    • Does this have data restrictions each day?

  • Thanks OP. I bought 2 for my 2 week trip in July. I'm going to be going across the country, so having a phone number as well as 4G will be good for communicating.

    • I believe this SIM is data only.

    • No worries!

Thanks for buying with me :)

I used this sim last year tokyo and kyoto with unlocked portable telstra 4g wifi, only catch is roaming data mode has to be enabled. Home country for this sim is hong kong. Speed was good enough for youtube and google maps but struggled with whatsap video. lost service on shinkesan in a few places. But apart from that good.

    • Cheers for the feedback!

    • As a previous user, would you mind confirming how the 7 days expiry works?

Say you activate on 1st April 7pm, does it expire on day 7 (7th April 11:59pm) or after 7 full 24 hour period (8th April 7pm)?

Your help in this would be hugely appreciated!

  • Dont need one, but upvoted due to what seems like a good price, money back guarantee but most importantly making yourself available.

  • Awww, you're making me blush. Thanks <3

  • Hey mate, for a 2 week trip will it be okay to buy 2 SIMs and put them in the mobile/WiFi hotspot one after another i.e. 7+7 days ? I noticed while making the order it asks for day leaving Australia, is that related to auto SIM activation in any way? I hope it's activated only when put in the device. Kindly confirm. Regards!

    • +1

      Hey singh,

Yep that will be fine. The leaving Australia date we ask at checkout is purely just for us to make sure we deliver to you in time!

It is only activated when you put it into your phone.

      Cheers,
      -Aidan

        Cheers mate. Ordered :)

        • <3

    • +2

Yeah you can activate whenever you want them. I'll be buying 3 and activating them one after another.

The date leaving aus is too make sure they are able to send them to you on time.

      • Spot on!

Thanks for your future order ;)

        -Aidan

      • That, and so they know when you're not home ;-)

        • Shhhhhhhh it'll be our little secret…

  • Fantastic Deal SimsDirect - Ordered 3 for our upcoming trip. Thank you!

    • Beauty! Thanks for your order <3

  • good price, 5GB was more than $50 at Narita airport.

    • Thanks for the feedback :)

  • This is a list i found a couple weeks ago - https://prepaidsim.visitjapanplaces.com/prepaidsim . b-mobile seems like the best deal but i heard they slow your internet if you use more than 1gb a day so for my purposes i like the yokoso sims better.

  • I will be traveling to Japan soon, and wonder if there are there any benefits this has over data roaming with vodafone?

    • How much does Vodafone charge you to roam

    • Hey Xyjz!

If you're talking about the $5/day roaming. The main benefits are that you're connecting directly to Softbanks 4G network and you're saving money :)

      -Aidan

  • I'm using my third SIM from the previous deal on the train in Tokyo now. They've been great. The only annoying thing is the link that SimsDirect sent me to check usage (http://service.hk.cuniq.com) doesn't work so I can't confirm how much data I've used. Otherwise highly recommended.

    • Thanks for the positive feedback!

      Try dialing: * 118 * 50#

(No spaces ^) OzBargain formatting won't allow

See if that works for balance check. Let me know how it goes.

      Cheers,
      -Aidan
