I appreciate how affordable public transport here is, my wallet cries every time I go to the east coast and a train ride into the city costs.. a lot.

It could be even cheaper if they didn't spend so much money on bloody trams.

      • lol, why all the down votes? The government has wasted a colossal amount of money on the trams (and the bus tunnel) and will waste a lot more. Hundreds of millions of dollars. How much has it cost just to go up North Tce, over 80 million? and another 35+ million is needed just to put a right hand turn from king William to North Tce.

I am yet to hear or see any argument to support trams over buses. We ripped up the tram lines because buses were introduced here and the trams were no longer necessary.

There is nothing a tram can do that a bus cannot, but there is a lot a bus can do that a tram cannot. Not counting all the additional inconvenience a tram causes to other traffic.

The money would have been better improving and renewing the bus stock we have.

Public transport ticket prices are going to drastically increase to help pay for it all.

According to you in Melbourne they got it all wrong. Genius.

        • Melbourne didn't rip up their tracks, Adelaide did.

So did Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Hobart.

First there were horse drawn Trams, then there were electric trams,
then there were trolley buses and then there were buses.

          And the tracks were removed.

Adelaide, except for one track to Glenelg is starting from scratch.

Wow this is actually significantly cheaper. Paying $25 instead of $42 for 28-day passes is fantastic for students!
