Damn! Not bad! But I wonder how their rates compare

    • I signed up to the free beats promo last week. I compared my bills and it worked out a bit cheaper as it is also offering discount on the daily supply charge.

I used to get 30% discount on electricity .. So these prices are really good.

      • The beats were valued at over $300 so better value than google home.

        • +1

RRR maybe but valued at over 300. Sounds like a Beats up.

But the prices differ from house to house and state to state. so you should do your own calculations is what I'd suggest.

  • Unfortunately these guys are more expensive in 9/10 networks that I know of

    • More expensive than….

      • Other options available

        • Such as….

        • +1

@wxyz234: too many to mention, depends on area. PM me if u need help finding cheaper for your area/Meter type (that's what i do)

        • @bobzor bargain: Mate it works out differently for everyone. Mine was cheaper than my current provider. I was getting 30% off usage charges from my current provider

        • @accessdenied:

I compare it agl with discount and amaysim rate per kwh was higher and would offset the higher discount they are giving.

The free google home is a good bait
          With its 40% discount.
And maybe switch back to other provider after two months?

        • @atlinus: Amaysim also offers 40% on daily supply charge so that makes a difference too. While other providers dont.

        • @accessdenied:

I think agl does as well (nsw)
You also get 10k flybuys, about 50 worth of grocery.

The rates of amaysim puts me off.
They markwt on huge discount and knock you back on higher rates.

        • @atlinus: I was with AGL. I they didnt apply the disc to daily supply charge. Its not always the rates. This is why I said get your old bill and calculator out. I did my calculations and I was saving a little. The beats wireless i got was a bonus.

        • @accessdenied:

          Seems too many condition
          - you only get the discount on 2nd month?
          - you do not get the discount on last month?
          - you have to pay something when you leave? So it would be difficult to switch.

It looks like its going to bite you once your in.

        • @atlinus: Where did you find these conditions?

  • I’m seeing 35% off electricity.

    • +1

As stated different plans in diff areas, I'm seeing 35/26

  • FYI this was previously a $250 cash discount broken up into $125 for signing up and another $125 credit after 12 months for signing up by March 28 (i.e. before midnight, but it's past that now)

  • The link, links to the promo but it says only 20% off electricity. Am I missing something?

    • +2

They have different plans in different areas. Also don't worry about the discount by itself, look at rates too please

  • +1

seems a little more for me in QLD than Origin with 21% off for pay on time as Origin rates are lower as well. But given no lock-in contracts it's worth it for the Google Home…wondering could I get the Google Home then leave or is there a minimum stay…anyone know?

    • wondering the same

  • +1

I did a random check of a past bill for my brother in South Australia (currently on AGL). If you have a high controlled tariff usage then you probably won't see much saving despite the 32% discount. His example bill went up by $20.

Why wouldn't I want Google listening to every single word said in my household?

    • +1

      Your phone does already.

      • -2

Does it also count the number of farts ?

        • not sure but there is probably an app for that!

    • +1

An alternative when your wife and kids doesn't listen to you.

    • Required you to stay 12 months to get the $250. Otherwise it’s $125 off your bill.

      • and you keep the Google HOme?

  • Compared this against Alinta and I was 10$ worse off here before the $250 promo credit with their promo.. Add the promo credit then I'm better off $20 a month here…

    • I find alinta rates is higher than agl.

I switch from agl to alinta because of higher discount but switch back to agl as it comes down cheaper depending on what discount you get from agl.

      Nsw.

  • With their higher rates and the 40%, my last usage comes out at the same as Alinta' 28% but with the google home - anyone confirm the min signup period?

Edit - only seeing 20% in QLD so no deal.

  • FYI guys and girls, when I left Click Energy, the last bill was exempt from the discount. Its in their terms and conditions. So factor this in as well - other providers may be doing the same. That cost me $125 in discount.

  • CLick is doing 30% via a channel 9 deal.

    • Not a good experience with click.
You need to pay monthly and then the rebalance which is confusing.

They mess up my discpunt i need to follow up monthly to fix.

      Their rate is higher.

You could bargain hard with agl for 30% discount with less conditions than CLICK.

      • was with them for two years. No problem until the last bill - no discount.
It is a bit confusing. You pay $50 a month, discount applies to next invoice. Meter reading month it all adjusts.

        • It confused me on the monthly billing and then re balance. I look at every rate and charges and this give more time to digest on whT happen. They did not apply the correct discount.
Even if i call their support at times they are as confused as i am.

  • This 30% discount crap should be stopped. The ACCC should make the energy providers just charge the uage rates and fixed service costs. No need for the government to make dedicated websites to compare energy providers. This is not like health insurance where the seller can offer different services, it is just one thing… power.

Every year the private companies will just increase the actual wholesale rate.. The resellers will just issue a higher and higher discount till they hit the ceiling and then no more discount and we are stuck with $1kw/h rates :(

  • When using the amaysim online calculator I entered my rates but didn't have the option to include a controlled load so even though the bill with amaysim would look online more attractive the actual bill I would get would be higher. For me the online calcultor showed a nice $50 saving but when the controlled load was added in my bill came out almost $50 more expensive than my current bill.

    • I can't find the calculator, link?
