Long time OzBargainer, first time poster.

I've been monitoring prices on this phone for a while now, as I was looking to replace my current Xperia Z3 Compact. Cheaper than the last posted deal. Don't forget 1% cashback through Cashrewards.

Note: The phone is shipped from Taiwan and is not AU stock. See comment.

  • does QD_AU give GST invoice for AU stock phones?

    • Unfortunately this is not AU stock. Sony Australia does not carry this model either.

      • Bit of a shame really. I remember when purchasing my Z3 Compact that both Telstra & JB Hi-Fi stocked them.

        • Yup, I bought my Z1 compact from Telstra 4 years ago. It has lasted well. Shame that Sony won't carry this latest compact.

I purchased this last Thursday using PFLASH10 10% off code. It was not shipped from Australia, despite what the listing says - it was shipped directly from Taiwan via DHL. Package arrived (Sydney metro) yesterday.

Any warranty repairs will have to be returned to seller who will then send back to Sony TW, so expect to be without a phone for at least weeks if there is an issue.

    • Ah bugger, bit deceptive. Thanks for the heads up. I better keep the Z3 as a spare then!

      • +1

Be sure to occasionally power up the Z3.

I kept my Z3C as a spare. Decided to power it up after a handful of months sitting in the drawer and the touchscreen is now unresponsive. :(

    • I'm guessing it came with a foreign AC adapter?

      • +1

        Yes it did.

Great phone. Had my XZ1 and my missus has the XZ1 Compact since they were released. Both still getting software updates, currently running Android 8.

Just make sure that they're the Euro/Asian spec phone and not the US version as the US version doesn't have the fingerprint scanner enabled.

    • Easy fixed with Xperifirm by changing the firmware to a different region.

    • The phone from this seller is Taiwan stock and has fingerprint unlocking.

  • Would Google Pay work on this? Looks like it has NFC but not sure what the situation would be with a phone shipped from overseas.

    • +1

Google play will work fine on this. This is Sony stock from Taiwan

      • I mean Google Pay, like Samsung Pay/Apple Pay/etc. Not the best name for it…

        • Oops, misread that. I believe it should, has worked on my other sony overseas model phone

  • I'll find out if the XZ2 is coming to Down Under

    • Looks like it's absent of a headphone jack :/ and has been bumped up to a 5" display vs the XZ1C's 4.6"

    • Yes it is… They probably didn't release the XZ1 in .AU so Sony Sweden don't have to put up with my barrage of abuse

Not sure if i cbf rooting and building recovery for this

The Xperia XZ2 Compact is listed on the Australian website and there is a cool text saying "Coming soon" which I hope means that the device will be released soon in Australia (Global release is in late March, however it will be released on April 6 here in Sweden).
If you want, you can always double check with the Local support there, just to be sure that I'm not making stuff up!
Am I correct in saying that the compact version usually is not available in Australia? That is at least what I can remember from previous launches!
