Micron 1100 2 TB 2.5" SATA 6GB/s SSD $382.74 USD / $496.23 AUD from MemoryOnly (USA) eBay

$100 off compared to the last deal with this SSD , I also bought this SSD so i can say its reliable and speedy .. for now atleast, Micron is the same brand as Crucial so its meant to be reliable, This also has 3D Nand so it has the one of the newest SSD technology, Though its not a NVME M.2 drive, In the real world you won't see much of a speed difference compared to the jump from a HDD to SSD, or wait 3+ years for a 2tb afforable NVME M.2 lol.

Welcome to the age of Afforable 2TB SSD's my people /o/

  • Some discussion from the last deal here:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/366600#comment-5741276

  • Love how they state the r/w speeds in megabits/s.

    • -2

That was always the standard years ago.

      • May be bit misleading to some people these days though, since almost all drives quote in MBytes…

        • If you think about it, MBps doesn't make sense and even for today, bps is the transfer speed measurement.

  • Was under $300 USD at Rakuten not long ago; the store didn't ship to Australia but a forwarding service probably would've done it and turned up in Australia for slightly cheaper than this price (but more hassle and time required).

    • Lots of great Rakuten tech deals on Slickdeals, but as you said CBF with fowarding / returns

      • i had no idea about [rakuten] slickdeals until i read your post. What have you done to me?

  • very tempting …2TB ……already have several crucial drives and they haven’t missed a beat.

  • I’ve had a few microns all die on me, obviously like all hard drive brands go, it’s a hit and miss

    • What other brand of SSD have you had fail? I've still got a number of vertex 2 ssds in htpc and parents PC after at least 5 years of usage.

The only ssds I've had fail are micron OEM drives. What's the warranty on these like?

      • Only Micron actually lol.

  • Aren’t these TLC NAND drives? Isn’t MLC better?

    • tlc vs mlc which is better …., it’s about how many times the cell can be written to and mlc used to take more read cycles than tlc ( let’s not worry about speed).

slc can be written to the most, is also the fastest and is used in consumer drives only for caches to front the tlc cells, some enterprise drives have more slc for speed and durability.

tlc used to have durability problems as the tracks were made smaller to get the density up, hence now they make them as 3d and stack higher with wider tracks.

other option to extend the life of the drive used to be how much they over provision with spare cells ao as cells die they would use a new one.

  • $0.25 a Gb, not bad at all for an SSD, that might be because of the older tech being used for the NAND chips though.

  • tomorrow use the 10% off code for a ripper of a deal
