What a shame it doesn't have micro SD support.

    • +7

Ticks all my boxes except for microSD support (in a separate slot) and AndroidOne.

      • +20

There is no perfect phone for everyone.

        • Why do they do this? Seems they could but won't.

        • @Gharvey Snruff: same question can be asked for iPhone

    • +15

      Or headphone jack.

      • +12

My main use of phones are as podcast/audiobook players, I would never buy a phone without an audio jack.

        • +9

there are literally dozens of us!

        • +1

          Go wireless

        • @qtntom:
          1. wireless sounds worse than the cable.
          2. have to worry about charging the bluetooth headphone/headset.
          3. Apple was behaving like an Ass by taking away the standard 3.5mm audio jack and people hated them for it. Some die hard fan would still buy their phones but it has been proven to be a bad business decision. I don't know why Xiaomi is copying this stupid/greedy move.

        • +1

@superkieu: not just Xiaomi, Google HTC Huawei and couple others too. They can't be all stupid aint they :-?

        • @Cleremy
"I would never buy a phone without an audio jack."

          Agreed.

        • @superkieu:

Just wait 5 years when no more phones have them. Then you'll eat your words :/

        • doesnt matter for me as i use digital audio players, better DAC, Amp and tunings for sound quality.

      • +1

Checkout the OnePlus 5T if you want a great value phone with headphone jack, finger print reader and NFC

    • it doesn't have micro SD at all? or shared with the second SIM?

  • +5

Good price, just wish that Xiaomi would make some waterproof phones :(

    • +1

Why, you need to check Ozbargain when you go diving?

      • +9

Its not always about that. A little while back. My two friends had the exact same phone. One friend was holding the others phone while his was in his pocket. He put the phone he was holding on the table then proceeded to dive into a pool.

Long story short his phone got wet and died.

Could it have helped if the phones were waterproof? Probably.

        • +23

I wish they would make a phone capable of falling from a 70 storey building.

A little while back. My two friends had the exact same phone. One friend was holding the others phone while his was in his pocket. He put the phone he was holding on the table then proceeded to dive of the roof of a 70 storey building.

Long story short his phone got crushed in impact and died.

Could it have helped if the phones were crush proof? Probably.

        • @altomic: I know right. Japan would not have to manufacture so many new phones if they were crush-proof!

        • +11

@altomic: now you are drawing a long bow. What I and others were asking is not beyond what other phone manufacturers managed to do. Which is make a phone splash proof / water resistant.

Wasn't that always the argument. Having the phone back sealed and battery non user replaceable so they can make the unit splash proof / water resistant (within limits of course)

        • -6

          @xoom: >make a phone splash proof / water resistant.

Manufacturers didn't actually do that. They pretended to though. And they gave the phone an IP rating which is a rating that you make up.

          @troyww: Nokia 3310 - there you go.

        • @virhlpool: LOL Thats the one . Brother drove over his and it survived .
I guess you can't have it all .

        • +3

          @xoom:

          I'm with you there xoom.

If they can make $300-$400 phones splash proof like the Moto G5+ ( seen dunked under water and still

working afterwards 100% ), then other manufacturers making phones selling for $400-$600+ should strive to do so too,

otherwise their sales will start to drop unless they pack the phone with other good features ).

      • +12

Because 71% of the earth is covered in water. Some people go outside and accidents can happen.

        • -6

Some people go outside and accidents can happen.

When you are outside and accidents happen, the safety of your phone should not be the first priority.

        • +6

@sky blu: a phone that someone was taking out of their pocket slipped off their hands and fell into a puddle in the middle of a vacant field you are both transiting through.

          Do you:

          a) go up to the person ask them if they were hurt.
          b) check if their surrounding is safe.

        • +3

          @sky blu:
          Lol who said it was??????????????

        • -4

@xoom: Gees are you always this serious?

      • +1

I was taking a picture of my Ramen and the phone (Lg G6) slipped out of my hand and landed in the full bowl of soup. 3/4 submerged. Then took it to the bathroom and had to wash it with soap to get all the oil off it too. Phone survived and all good months later

        • +13

          but was the ramen ok

        • +1

@xbai: wasn't great but tasted fine after a factory reset.

        • @xbai: Taking fusion cuisine to the next level. Also provided for some interesting under soup pics

      • +1

I give my phone a wash every now and then

    • +5

Agree with that IP68 comment at this price point. LG G6 for example is IP68 and similar specced.

      • Well pointed out.

  • Good deal!

  • +2

Isn't the 2s out next week?

    • +2

Yeah i think so, just wait for that one. It seems like shopmonk is trying to clear these phones out, hence the price drop. Plus the Mi Mix 2s is probably 50-80 dollars more than this price so why not wait for that one?

      • +10

Considering the first deal for the Mi Mix 2 was $735AUD you're kidding yourself if you think it will only be $80 more. It will be more like $250 more than this price.

        • Actually now that i think about it, yeah, expect the price to be around $700-800 AUD.

      • +5

Totally agree with Doge above. When the Mi Mix 2 came out it was already AU$700++ the new Mi Mix 2S won't be anywhere near the $500 range.

      • So this will probably get cheaper soon?

        • Thinking this myself… Will it price drop once the newer version actually releases

  • Thanks op. Bought one!

  • +4

Once again, another great Xiaomi phone that i can't buy because it doesn't have a headphone jack. Otherwise it would've been the phone i bought instead of the Mi 5s Plus (well that or the Mi 6).

    • +1

Maybe their eventual plan is to force consumers onto Bluetooth headphones the way Blu-Ray player manufacturers forced consumers onto digital audio receivers by discontining RCA audio jacks.

      • That's what they trying to do. They've already gained a huge audience, so i guess they thought why not force their BT headphones with the removal of headphone jack?

        • +2

Unless you can point to something like Xiaomi sells large amounts of BT headphones you can't say that since removing the headphone jack increases battery life when using audio playing to headphones and some people prefer to use wireless headphones.

Apple already owned 40% of the BT headphone market so in their case they easier to point at.

        • +4

@Diji1: the truth is Apple did this to sell more headphones, every other company that removed a headphone jack is just copying Apple.

I would be interested to know the percentage of Apple phone purchasers who bought earpods in the same purchase as a phone, judging by the people on the bus it's a lot.

      • +1

No ones forcing you to do anything.

    • +6

It comes with a headphone jack adapter.

      • +1

Oh man i'm not going to take a freaking adapter everywhere i go now. And the headphone jack existed to let you charge and listen at the same time, so you have two ports. Removing the headphone jack makes it either listen or charge.

    • Isn't the USB-C socket with the included 3.5 mm to USB-C headphone adapter sufficient?

      • +1

Not if you want to charge your phone at the same time

  • Does anyone here already own this phone? What's the battery life?
Does it last you a full day, using a mixture of google maps, light gaming, reading articles, social media, web browsing, and youtube?

    • +1

i have one, the battery is quite good, can last me 2 days (i don't play games at all).

  • Not banned store anymore?

  • +3

Anyone want to play with some ROMs there's a couple of decent ones out there.
    Resurrection remix
    Dirty unicorns (running that now)
    Omnirom.

    Makes the phone even better.

    • Yo, can you make a tutorial on how to installResurrection remix on my Mimix?

      • Do you have an unlocked bootloader?

  • I have the 128gb model of this device. Beautiful design absolutely fantastic device with brilliant value. Running Resurrection Remix 6.0 based on Android 8.1 it's stable and fully featured (other than a weird bug with the call history in Google Dialer). I paid $630 AUD for that so this is a bargain. 10/10 though there is a bit of fiddling around to do if you don't want to run MIUI and the camera isn't up to scratch.

    • but yours is 128gb. Here is only 64gb.

    • What's the bug?

    • Yo, can you make a tutorial on how to install Resurrection remix?

      • There's a few on the net I believe. No different than installing other ROMs.

You need to unlock the bootloader (which is a pita), then root and install custom recovery then flash the rom and gapps 8.1. that's it really. I'll find the link for the forums.

        Edit:
        RR: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix-2/development/offici…

How to root and install TWRP custom recovery: https://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-xiaomi-mi-mix-2-root…

Just note to alunlock the bootloader you have to apply for it and then wait 3 days once that's approved. It's a real bastard but the phone is pretty good once you get that working.

        • What makes the phone better with the ROM?

        • @Nanokillaz: not a great deal if you like MIUI. If you don't like MIUI then everything.

    • Hey mate.
Not sure if your following it but there's a thread on telegram that the Devs started. It keeps you up to date with what's happening with the ROMs.
I ran RR for a while and now on dirty unicorn which I think is even better…
Anyway not sure how to link to it but the thread is called Mix 2 AOSP Development.

  • Awesome phone, I love it.
Headphone jack isn't an issue for me, got some Xiaomi ANC earphones that are USB-C.
As above, I admit the camera isn't the best but it also takes at least 3 days and a fair bit of fiddling to install the global edition firmware where you can get Google Play, all English etc. (if this is the Chinese version).

  • +3

This or OnePlus 5T? Both very similar in spec.

    • OnePlus 5T because headphone jack + Lineage OS FTW.

      • Xiaomi's fairly well supported by Lineage. The MIX 2 has unofficial builds, and probably will get official soon enough.

        • True, but you can't deny the use of the headphone jack in OnePlus 5T compared to the lack of headphone jack in the Mix 2. That is the dealbreaker between these two phones.

    • I've been contemplating this Mi Mix 2 or OnePlus 5T too.

I am going to wait until the Mi Mix 2S comes out, and see what happens to the prices then.

The OnePlus 5T has a better camera I believe.

  • Wait for xiaomi 7!!!!!

  • Just got Huawei p10 from eglobe $540 bargain include ship then this came along costs less but no Leica cam

    • If camera is important the P10 is a way better option.

  • +1

Camera at bottom of the screen is ridiculous

    • +1

I own one of these and that is actually genuinely a problem with it. It's also in the bottom right so all the selfies you take with it are from the the bottom left (because it flips the image). Most custom roms and MIUI allow you to physically turn your phone upside down though and change the orientation without any hassle; but camera through apps like in Snapchat and Instagram don't do that (unless you enable system wide 180° rotation)

  • Good price bit just be aware. 6 days now since I placed order for Mi A1 and still in "processing"

    • You reckon it's beter to buy A1 instead of this mi mix?
Hmmm , thinking to snatch one of this but Not Stock Android.
Xiaomi Mi A1 Basically Google version of Redmi Note 3 Pro

  • hope to see Xiamomi ribbed condoms in the market in the near future

    • +3

I guess that it will have 28 bands o.o

  • -4

The camera is shit…these phones are overrated.. the company pays for positive reviews . People lie on about the phone. Totally shit display and shit camera for the price

    • +1

I've had this phone for about 2 months and genuinely like it. They aren't all bad though I do find the camera a bit lackluster.

    • Agreed that this particular model isn't the best in its range. Xiaomi seem to be raising prices now that they're so popular. It is a beautiful phone though. I played with it at launch at a xiaomi store

    • I've had this phone for about 5 months now and still love it. It looks great, works well - I personally think the camera isn't bad either. The only thing I don't like is the placement of the front facing camera, but I'd much prefer than than the notch designs that everyone else is going with…

  • Bought it 2 months ago. Overall it is great except the camera function that seems not optimised.

    • When you say not optimised do you mean launching the camera app is slow? It's glitchy? Does it work in Snapchat and other apps well?

      • +1

works fine with SC and other apps. Just lacks finishing touches.

  • i am using a black 128GB version for nearly six months now, recent android 8.0 update gave it gesture back home multi task key control, which is not very friendly at typing word selection at the edge but i am able to use the device without any of the soft keys. over all package is great, but I assume the nearly 95% screen Mix 2s with dual camera would be out within two months after announce in 26th of this month. I would hold my $$ and see how it racks up. You will have to content with top right hand side camera corner… but hey , still better than bloody iphoneX in terms of looks. i would love to have the camera at lower rhs instead.

Still if this phone is at AUD 400 level once Mix 3 is available in mass, it is very attractive package compare to other brands.

  • Hi all,

This phone looks super neat. Found this version for a little more:

    https://www.android-enjoyed.com/xiaomi-mi-mix-dual-256gb-4g-…

    Questions..

    1. Cn/china version. Seems an easy switch to get google programs added, any thoughts or experience on this?

    2. The seller, any experiences?

    Cheers.
