I dont know much about engines, drive a japanese sedan, but would love to know how does the engine compare to my Aurion 3.5 V6 ?

@lancedefrance: it has two less cylinders lol…

@jasonc: 2.0 litres is for milk and orange juice

        • @nhand42:

There was more cars listed there than just the WRX. Sheeesh

        • -1

          @nhand42:

Get with the times. Merc are soon to release a 300kw 4cyl, Audi already have 280kw, Ford 260kw.

They'd all dust anything you could afford.

        • -1

          @Kampfer:

          Beat me to it.
Had an Evo 8. Would spank 90% of cars without trying. Boring? It was the complete opposite or boring.
Nhand42 sounds like he has no idea…

        • -2

its german, obviously the germans dont know how to make cars.

        • @Maz78:
Been in both a Evo 8 and a 2015 330i. Sure the Evo 8 is quick, but for a daily driver that can have fun when you need to: 330i for sure.

        • @kaotickelly:

Won't disagree. It was harsh and it was a weekender. Far from comfortable for a daily. Just arguing more with Nhand42's post stating that there are "No good 4cyl engines"..

      • -1

Strange most of the reviews rate the smaller BMWs as really fun to drive… i wonder who i believe…

    • I beleive you can flash models like this to unlock the full power capacity.

      • +1

You'll need to change the engine pistons as well.

        http://www.f30driver.com/forum/showthread.php?t=966132#/topi…

"The difference in the 320i and the 328i is the pistons. While both have a 10:1 compression ratio the 320i has a different part numbers for the pistons then the 328i."

        • +1

More than that. Probably also need to change the radiator, intake, exhaust, fuel-pump, transmission, possibly even drivetrain.

If you're pulling 50kW more power that's up to 100kW more heat to dissipate. And twice as much fuel to consume.

There's far more to it than the ECU and flashing a firmware.

        • +4

@nhand42: from the link I've posted, you'll see part numbers for radiator, intake and many other engine parts are identical. I'd say the 320i engine is been detuned from 328i (330i) engine spec which is the "default" tune.

      • This isn't the N54

        • Yes maybe that was the one I was thinking about regarding flashing.

    • +1

numbers are useless. Show us the power and torque curves!
ask if it has run flat tyres and how many in stock where and how much.

    • They have slightly different internals.

    • You you have tuned N20 before, you will know its not just the same engine. The pistons (and probably more) are different in 20i (N20B20) vs 28i (N20B20 180kW tune).

So if you care about power, get the 30i, mods will cost you more eventually.

Checked my amex, they are offering a hot girlfriend with this purchase. Might be targeted though.

    • +9

No guarantees that shes not a gold digger.

      • +1

She might be trying to intentionally get pregnant so watch out!

        • She's already pregnant. (I used the 'AMEX free returns' to send her back.)

  • 2.0l one is neither "thrill" nor "dynamic" :(

    • +4

For a little old lady, it is.

  • You should be able to do a fair bit better on the 330i.

  • +1

Bargain, going to stock up and grab 4

    • +2

You are too late, darshu has already grabbed 10.

  • +12

My brother bought an 8 year old 320ci with all the M3 fruit for ~$10K 2 years ago at auction . Was immaculate with all the M3 fruit and looked awesome . 2000km later it needed a transmission that cost more than he paid for it . Hilarious .

    • +1

There's always someone with an expensive car repair regardless of the brand. But the price of spare parts and repairs is always proportional to the original price of the vehicle.

    • +6

8 year old used car from auction with M3 body kits…

I'd say it more to do with the last owner (a M3 watanabe owner) than the car itself.

      • The list price for it new was over 100K .
I'm pretty sure he didn't want to be "That" person . LMAO
And no it didn't have a body kit .

    • +1

The M3 ‘fruit’ is the stuff specifically excluded from a 320i.

    • +1

Yes that is the quality for BMW. R*p Off!

    • +2

Similarly a lady at work had her daughter trading in a 4 year old Yaris for 3k off a second hand 3 series and the following week the car had to be towed back to the dealer. Wasn't following the story afterwards tho

    • +6

BMW's are fantastic cars… as long as you're not planning to keep them past the warranty period.

      • +2

Yeah horrible for anyone that hasn't bought it new or still under warranty.

If it's 2nd hand and not under warranty personally I'd never touch one.

        • +2

Yep. Have you heard about their "condition based servicing"? It's a fancy way of saying that they don't even lift the bonnet for a scheduled service. They just hook up a computer/OBD tool. And the oil… New BMW's are going for up to 30,000kms without an oil change due to this. Unless they're filling these things with the oil equivalent of unobtanium, there's no way in hell the oil can lubricate properly for that long.

The original owner won't care though, because the car should still last for the warranty period, and BMW won't care if the car dies after that because their liability has ended.

      • +1

The weird thing is, people keep buying BMWs even though they have a bad reputation in terms of reliability. New car buyers are happy, as they get the car when it's awesome and reliable, but anyone buying second hand is in for a world of hurt. The new car buyer has to offload their car sooner or later so it's a surprise the resale value is as high as it is.

Maybe it's just the badge blinding people. I had a new Mercedes once. Huge POS in terms of quality, reliability, and value for money. Never again.

        • Depends on the model, I have had multiple E46 BMW's and they have both been good reliable cars that are pretty easy to work on and find parts for. I wouldn't go any newer than E46 though unless I was buying new as I have heard that after that, they become pretty unreliable and require computers every time you work on them.

        • depends what model you get. A classes and B classes are usually shit.
E Classes and most C's are very, very good cars. S Classes are absolutely amazing cars.

Your comment about BMW's having a bad reputation is not true.

source: worked in car industry for over 10 years. (not any more).

    • And all he got was fruit.

  • +2

    Thats M140i money.
Too bad there is a long wait since they are moving to FWD next year.

    • +2

Different cars, room vs performance. I wouldn't think many people will cross-shop M140i with 330i M-Sport.

      • Yeah I know #JustSaying performance wise big jump.

Fast, cheap or luxury. You only get to pick 2 out of 3.

    • +1

Looks of course are subjective, but damn, the 1 series hatchback doesn't look all that great.

  • +1

That's a pretty good price for a legacy BMW by itself. Then you add all those extras in… this is actually a bargain.

  • Seriously, is this a good deal?

Not a car person but will prob need to get something for tax time

    • +4

If you can spend this much. Much better off pre-ordering a Tesla Model 3.

      • +11

..and getting it when? They made under 2500 in Q4 2017 and there are over 400000 preorders.

      • +1

If only Tesla could get production moving quicker.

      • +1

Saw one on the road in Indooroopilly this morning. I'd say pre-production testing but from what I've been hearing the production models are all doing pre-production testing.

        • Has Tesla started their Model 3 RHD production?

        • @Kampfer: lol no

        • +1

No you didn’t. There are 100% no Tesla Model 3 in Australia. Also your statement doesn’t make sense, and you haven’t been hearing anything from anyone. The car is in full production already and has been going out to customers for several months in the USA. They are expanding to Canada soon.

        • -1

          @Burnertoasty:

Yeah, I did. Literally just got back from southern California where I saw a number on the road, and two in the context of a Model S. Stark white colour highlighted the lack of grilles/intakes on the front end compared to the Model S, not to mention the size (this thing was BMW 3 series sized).

I don't recall if the car was LHD or RHD (there was someone sitting in both front seats). If it is 12 months away from release it is entirely possible prototypes are around for type testing.

        • -1

@Kampfer: No. I don't recall if the car was LHD or RHD.

        • +3

@The Vat: No you didn’t. People are tracking the individual VINS, as it stands there are zero RHD model 3s, there are about 20 prototype AWD variants Produced or about to go into production. There are a total of 4 (yes 4) Model 3s in Europe or about to go to Europe. 1 belongs to Tesla and is run out of their facility in the Netherlands, 2 were bought by one of the big Germans and were air freighted out of there do they could tear them down. The 4th Model is a private car that is on its way, and is about to undertake a publicised cross continent road trip.

There are absolutely no Model 3s in Australia. The closest a Model 3 has come to Australia, was about 6 months ago, when Tesla did cold weather testing in a New Zealand facility, with two prototypes. These were returned to Freemont two weeks later.

Whatever you thought you saw, you didn’t. It was probably a
Model S. The 2017 Model S refresh has no grill, like the Model 3. You are probably thinking that the old Model S is the only variant.

      • +2

had a chance to ride in the back of a model S P100D for considerable time.. Moderate comfort, nothing to see, hard to get in and out. Spotify did no longer work after owner had a software upgrade. FM radio compares to a Mahindra. Old google maps, missed updates, slower than an old phone, unusual bearing type noise heard on back.

Upside: Bolts off from standstill unmatched by any serial combustors. Clear reverse cam.

        • Sounds like a Lambo .

    • I'd say you're getting a pretty good discount. The 320i by itself usually costs a few thousand more and this has the add-on packages.

Btw, how much do you think you'll be able to claim back?

    • +1

Buy something second hand, if you can find one a 6 month old model will be much cheaper than buying it new with this sale

    • Me too… this is right at luxury car level so it looks like a good option. Are you leasing or buying outright? I’ve never leased as I just can’t see it’s a cost saving paying full price for the vehicle rather than negotiating a good price. That said then I’d be depreciating for a few years.

    • Yeah thats a inline Six making way better power than these Inline 4's, Ive driven the 2015 one with a full akrapovic exhaust they're amazing !!!

      • +1

        All F30 328i were inline 4.

      • That's a 4cyclyinder turbo not an inline 6

      • You need to go 340i for 6 cyl

    Innovations Package NOT included.

The Innovations Package adds the Navigation System Professional infotainment hardware that also upgrades the central display to an 8.8-inch panel in addition to Parking Assistant and Extended Smartphone Connectivity (Apple CarPlay) along with the aforementioned digital instrument cluster. Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function also joins the feature list if Innovation Package included.

  • I was hoping there might be a deal on an i8.

    • Nobody is buying i8, seriously you can actually get good discount on those.

      • Not hard to understand why when $300k+ car only as a 3cyl 1.5L Turbo Petrol engine at least the fuel economy at 2.1L/100km is reasonable.

        • +3

Since when is engine size directly linked to the price?

      • Yep, I heard that one dealer got 8 of them stuck in stock and couldn't sell at all …

      • +1

Why would you though? They are $300k and slower than a Base Model Tesla S

        • +1

They made a weird car. Look super car, priced supercar, perform not like a supercar. There are so many h better options for 300k

        • @djmm: You could get 2 M3s and be just as fast, in two different colours.

  • Thanks OP. Got 10

  • -4

Thanks, so cheap, bought 20, thank you
