Winner of two Tony Awards® and the Grammy® Award for Best Musical Show Album, American Idiot is the explosive new musical featuring the entire Green Day American Idiot rock anthem album. It’s the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 Trumpian suburbia, discovering love, loss, sex, drugs, and rock and roll along the way. The show features the music of Green Day with lyrics by lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. This electrified rock musical has had Green Day fans in rapture and introduced a generation of theatregoers to their powerful and moving musical style.

American Idiot features every song from the album of the same name as well as several songs from the follow-up release, 21st Century Breakdown. This spectacular rock musical showcases an all-Australian cast including the phenomenally talented, and multi-Helpmann Award nominee, Phoebe Panaretos (Strictly Ballroom The Musical, Dream Lover) as Whatsername and rock legend Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon) as St Jimmy.

Not worth it to be honest.

I love the album, and used to be a pretty keen GD fan as a kid.

But the album is nearly an hour and this production is barely an hour and a half. Factor in that there's another few songs from 21st CB thrown in and you should realize how little they added to the music.

Like, it was enjoyable, I did like it, but it added very little to the songs, there was piss all additional dialogue and it could have been a really good commentary on teenage apathy and burnout, but instead, ironically, was itself an apathetic burnout with no real effort put into adding anything to what was already there.

And the Grinspoon guy reeks of FIGJAM. Never cared for them at all, was bummed we didn't get Adalita tbh.

    • I specifically wanted to see Phil Jamieson rather than Adalita because I'm a Grinspoon fan too. I can see what you mean with FIGJAM. Especially as someone I was with went to the bathroom and was told they weren't allowed to go back to their seat while Phil was on; they had to wait for him to leave the stage.

The music was good. The performances weren't terrible. The plot was difficult to follow and left a lot to be desired.

      • Really? That's beyond bullshit. I'd deadset be asking for my money back. That's (profanity).

        • I should clarify that they were still able to watch the show from the side of the theater; they didn't have to wait outside. He wasn't on for long periods at a time either.

          for long periods

Yeah, I'm afraid we're going to have to fire you, so if you could go ahead and gather up your things that would be great.

    • Save your money and make sure you're at the next Green Day tour. Saw their RR Tour live in Sydney and it's probably the best concert I've ever been to.

  • Green Day + phil from grinspoon hmmm no thanks
