      Thought it was on Crunchyroll?

      • It’s already on Crunchyroll. It will also be on Netflix for those who don’t want to subscribe to anime streaming.

  • is it free?

    • It's free if you have Netflix.

“Its free if you already paid for it”

Wake up and realise having insanely rich parents solves everything.

      • Exactly!
We’re descending back to feudalism baby!!!!!
Can’t wait for all the rich children to become the heirs of their rich families’ fortune to start more businesses that can abuse poorer families!!!

I must be in the minority that find Studio Ghibli movies just bizarre with no rhyme or reason. I much prefer the works of Makoto Shinkai.

    • Both studios are great

Shinkai's only good movie is Your Name, the others followed the same formula but weren't as good. At least Miyazaki has some variety in his work.

      • Agree. Your Name was good. Gone down hill since then. Suzume is one of the worst Anime I've seen. The story was utterly unoriginal, did not make sense at all, milked elements from about 20 previous anime movies, and seems like it was intended merely to manipulate the emotions of 11-year-olds.

        • I mostly just disliked the way she treated the cat lol

      • He did films pre-Your Name as well - some might even say they're the better films, before he went for mainstream appeal with Your Name onwards.

    • I would say almost all of Ghibli films are very thematically straightforward and wear their motifs on their sleeves.

    • I like the other ones but did kinda feel that way about this one.

Shinkai hasn't been able to live up to Your Name though. Weathering With You and Suzume were alright, but Your Name is just next level.

Spirited Away was a hard-hitting environmental commentary about the destruction of Japan's nature and beauty and traditions by modern consumerist society. It had a story that appealed to both adults and children, while paying homage to about 200 years of classic fantasies and fairy tales (both literature and movies). It's not at all lacking "rhyme or reason".

It won about 50 film awards worldwide, including some that had never been won by an animated film before, and many critics list it among the greatest animated films of all time (if not the greatest), and among the greatest films of all time.

  • Great film, watched it yesterday

  • Love ghibli movies - found this one a bit bizarre though but still worth a watch watch

  • +1

Miyazaki Hayao still hasn't improved on Spirited Away, but I'll watch this because his movies always have some kind of nostalgic mood and interesting animation.

    • I reckon the best one is Porco Rosso, but The Wind is Rising pretty much beats it. everything else is downhill IMO including this one, which has no real story. I watched it and couldn't figure out what was I supposed to learn from it

  • thanks wanted to watch this didnt know it was streaming on netflix

  • Does anybody remember when IMDB had comments/forum threads?

    • Yeah, I kind of miss those, despite the constant garbage found there.

There's a website that has an extension to bring them back, although I hadn't tried it myself.
