Warning…they use Australia Post to ship the computers and there is no protection at all. Ordered mine and it came damaged and had to take it back to the store for a refund.

    • they left my macbook pro at my front door. sat there all day till i got home at night.

    • Can confirm this. Au post delivered my imac on a 44 degree day and left it out on the front door after requesting an alternate address. Poor service by au post. Lucky to still have it.

    • +2

they sent mine quite well packed with airbags

    • Mine was received well received and undamaged.

    • mine wasn't damaged but the myer box it came in was crushed and "repaired" with aus post tape

  • +1

Don't fall for it. Horrible customer service. I only found out after 5 follow ups three weeks after delivery due date that the product was out of stock despite being reassured the first 4 phone calls that it was coming.

  • +4

wish the iPad deals would come back.. I need to buy one

    • I heard a rumour of an new Apple iPad event to be held in March. I'm waiting as well

  • +2

I bought an iMac through eBay Myer store without any problems.

    So i guess i'm lucky ?

    • +3

I've never had an issue through Myer eBay either.

      • Same, I had an issue once and they responded within minutes and sorted everything for me.

    • I have no problem at all when i buy mac and Apple Watch. They packed in bigger box with full of wrap.

    Closing down sale?

    • +4

10% off is hardly a clearance.

      • +3

It's 14.5% and its for Apple computers, so….?

        • +2

It's only 14.5% because of the 10% off by Myer and the added 5% coupon from Ebay:
          100 * 0.9 * 0.95 = 0.855 (plus probs a few more % if you get CR + pay with discounted gift cards).
I think the steepest raw discount I've seen for Apple is 11% (I could be wrong though).

    • +2

Some people think it'll close down soon…

  • Does customised macs come under this pricing?

    • Doubt it. How would you customise one through Ebay's interface/does myer even sell custom macs?

      • good point, yes silly one from me…

  • +1

does this come with a tax invoice?

    • +1

      Yes and TRS eligible

      • has anyone done this before? purchases must have abn over 1000 dollars? how will this work if you get a confirmation from ebay

        • I have previously received a tax invoice from Myer for the non-discounted price.

        • You can read about this on the TRS website (just google it) but it's $300 or above, from a single vendor.

It doesn't matter who the vendor is per se because you're dealing with a formal tax invoice, which has to have details on it such as the ABN (which sorts out who this is from), your name and preferably your address etc.

        • @jason andrade: Will this be provided though as you're buying from ebay instead of the actual website.

        • edit:sorry misread

        • +1

          @poormansfriedchicken:

You aren't buying 'from' ebay - you're buying 'through' ebay.

When I recently bought something from allphones/mobileciti, i received a tax invoice from them (their ABN) - not ebay's.

You should see a tax invoice from Myer itself.

Ebay is just a channel for them rather than the final sale vendor i.e this is an 'ebay shop' rather than a seller 'selling the product through the ebay company' if that makes sense to you.

        • @jason andrade:

thanks for clarifying! never spent this much money on a computer needed to make sure

        • @jason andrade:

For purchase over $1000 the invoice/receipt ought to include your name and perhaps address in order to claim TRS.

Does the Myer receipt have that?

        • @Eeples:

It should - but I've always found the online support is pretty good - and if you need the invoice to be in a specific format they can help with that (within the bounds of legality of course).

allphones/mobileciti, vaya_shop were all great about making sure I had a properly formatted tax invoice.

  • The prices of some of those iPads is truly unbelievable. I'm not one of those 'Apple are overpriced" people as I see the value in buying high end equipment that lasts a long time, but a $1700 tablet? I just don't see the appeal. You can get the regular iPad for under $400 fairly easily. I just can't imagine how this one has 5x the functionality.

    • +11

Well you're looking at a cellular model which is already $200 more expensive than wireless, you're also comparing a 9.7" 60Hz lower spec display vs a 12.9" 120Hz higher spec display. Also you're comparing 32GB vs 256GB of storage, an iPad with enough storage for what you need has 1000X the functionality of an iPad that can't store all the things you need, that's why everyone charges such huge premium on storage.

      • +6

that's why everyone charges such a huge premium on storage.

That is only a factor when there is no Micro/SD card slot.

Storage should never be a premium if consumer friendly options are made available on these types of products (Phones/Tablets etc). Purposely leaving them out and charging 4x for storage is a dishonest business practice and should not be supported or encouraged.

        • Well it's also done to guarantee user experience. This was less important in early phones/tablets whose storage were more or less regular flash drives. These days the average iPad SSD is 10-20x faster than a Micro/SD, if users stick their cheapo SD card in they'll find things take 10 times longer to load/access, which would make the average person think the iPad is slow.

        • +1

          @NoRotation:

That is a very good point. Although from working in IT, I generally see the majority of a user's storage are things that are not frequently accessed (mainly large multimedia files, camera roll etc.). Where as this 10-20x faster storage is just being chewed up and wasted by large, rarely accessed data, not having the option for cheap/large storage I personally think subtracts from the overall value/experience that you pay for.

Paying more money for less (not always better) options should never be the way forward.

        • Speaking from my experience of a 16gb phone, additional on board storage is much much better than adding in an SD card. However, would I pay $100 for an extra 16GB? Maybe, maybe not. Guess I'll see when I get my next phone. (hopefully not just a marginal 16gb though haha)

        • +2

@Wolf: The same people who put rarely accessed files on fast expensive storage are equally likely to put frequently used files on slow cheap storage. If consumers had the choice the majority would no doubt buy the lowest possible inbuilt storage then go buy the cheapest largest SD card they can find. Imagine if you, working at IT was constantly bombarded by requests asking why their "computer is slow" when they choose to run run their computer off a USB2.0 flash drive. Also less options unfortunately IS the way forward, look up "The Paradox of Choice".

People pay a premium for they technological illiteracy, you have the expertise to skip this premium and buy a cheaper phone with SD slots. But the majority of consumers would much rather fork over an extra $200 than have to learn about disk speeds and file management. Similarly Apple would much rather lose the business of people like you than be bombarded by claims their devices are slow because it got bottlenecked by a component the consumer inserted into their own phones.

        • +1

          @NoRotation:

Imagine if you, working at IT was constantly bombarded by requests asking why their "computer is slow" when they choose to run run their computer off a USB2.0 flash drive.

These type of people keep IT workers in employment. If everyone had the knowledge of an experienced computer user then why would anyone need support? Much the same with any other trade profession.

People pay a premium for they technological illiteracy. "The Paradox of Choice"

This is true, but they shouldn't need to. Much like a person who needs a laptop for web browsing and facebook shouldn't be sold a $1000+ product (Brand Withheld). That's why there are ranges of products (as in products that widely vary in specifications and cost, not just charging hundreds of dollars for extra storage)

Also with the Paradox of Choice, you would be surprised how little choice people THINK they have when it comes to consumer electronics. To them the only choice would be the product they see advertised or spoken about the most on TV/Socially. This isn't real choice because they are not informed of what the -actual- options are. Like with phones, a general user will fork out $1000+ for a Brand Flagship phone not even understand what any of the specs are and not utilising a fraction of the power that was purchased.

I tell these kinds of people that don't need flagship products and to save a few hundred dollars on whatever they are purchasing and buy themselves something else they would like, or spend the money on their family/kids. It's not worth paying the marketing costs for major brands.

        • +1

@Wolf: I’ve had many Android app refusing to move their data to external storage or even refusing to be install on external storage. So I’m stuck with a device that’s almost full and a free SD card.

The problem is so bad that even Google with their $1000+ flagship Android phones have removed them.

    • Maybe you’ve answered your own question? If you don’t see the appeal then get the cheapest option. The iPad Pro is a powerhouse I have the 12.9” and it blew my few-year-old MacBook Pro out of the water in benchmark tests. They are vastly different it all comes down to what you want to do on it.

    • From an engineering perspective, apple market their products well and when you buy an apple product your buying into their branding. Don't always believe theres a great improvement from one version to another. Usually its minor tweaks and a less bulky os that makes the difference. If you like apple buy it and enjoy it otherwise if you don't want to take out a loan or sell one of your kidneys to be an apple consumer. Than buy a non apple product usually loaded with Microsoft software.

looking to get a macbook, current strategy:

    • use CR Woolies GCs to buy eBay GCs
    • use eBay GCs through CR website (using pay5less code) to buy the macbook from the myer eBay store

have i missed any other professional steps?

    • +7

incase others were wondering, i managed to buy 16 x $100 eBay giftcards from woolies using e-giftcards. self service lets you do 5 in one transaction

i also managed to add all 16 vouchers and 1 coupon code to my ebay check out, so it seems like the '8 voucher limit' may be hit and miss YMMV

together with cashrewards it ended up being 19.5% off full retail! thanks to everyone who contributed

      • How does the discount play out when buying Woolworths gift cards?

      • sorry this is my first time buying the woolies egiftcard from CR, is the Woolworths Supermarket eGift Card the same as the WISH eGift Card?

Also normally how long does it take until you actually get the woolies egift card?

        Thank you

        • +1

woolworths gift card & wish gift card are the same as far as I can tell.

when placing the order I usually receive the egift card in 24 hours, sometimes longer if ordering on a weekend

  • I can't see any eBay gift cards at Woolworths, let alone discounted. Can someone point me in the right direction, please?
    www.woolworthsgiftcardstore.com.au

    • +3

You need to purchase them in-store, they come in $50 and $100 variants

      • Good to know - thanks Doweyy! Am I correct in assuming:
        1. you can use multiple gift cards in a single transaction?
        2. gift cards can be used in conjunction with ebay promo codes and the 2 have no correlation?

If 1 is true, is there any upper limit on how many gift cards can be used in a single transaction?

        • +2

          No worries :)

          1. Yes you can, on the FAQ'S it says 8 max, however it isn't enforced and you can add as many as you want.
          2. Yes, you can combine with eBay promo codes.
        • Awesome thanks for that!

        • +2

          @doweyy:

I have done this personally with 12 ebay gift cards. 8 x $100 and 4 x $50 (for a total of $1000), plus an ebay promo code.

Make sure you don't do this lying in bed as you have to scratch off each promo code to put it in.. which generates a bit of rubbish..

        • I found out there is daily redemption limit of $2500 (25 * $100 gift cards), from my own experience..

Although their T&C says daily limit $2000:
No more than a total of $2000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per day, and no more than a total of $5000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per calendar month. Further, you may only redeem a maximum of eight Gift Cards in any single transaction (and fewer if you are redeeming Gift Cards in combination with other redemption codes, such as coupons or vouchers).

  • Can I price beat it at JB or OW for quick deliverely? But it’s from eBay sale though. Hmm help

    • +1

You can price match 10% off from Myer, but no additional 5% off because it is from eBay

      • +1

Will office work do a 5% price beat on Myer? Giving you 14.5% from them too?

        • +1

That’s a good idea. I forgot price beat

  • wish they can do the 15' without touchbar

  • Thanks OP. Just bought one pro 13 256g. Not the cheapest but can't be bothered to get the extra 5% through Wollies giftcard. Still a good deal without it I think. Now eyeing on apple watch deals, anyone ?

  • the 13" 16gb version on the cards?

  • Just as I was looking to buy one. Thank you, OP. Saved me $600.

  • Hopefully they have the right stock levels and don’t oversell.

I’ve had problems with Myers site before where they don’t have enough stock and cancel. Going to sell my thinkpad on the free ebay fee offer this weekend hopefully I get the Mac!

  • -2

Considering Apple have marked up the new Macbook Pros by an average of $1000-$1500k due to the addition of a gimmik touch bar and less ports I wouldn’t be buying a MBP for under $2.5k

  • +1

Be careful if you try the Wish cards (from Cashrewards) - ebay cards process as you may not get the Wish cards in time.

  • CLickedon the link it says listing has been removed

    • Hmm that's weird, the listings work here

    • yea happened to me yesterday too. just keep checking or search through ebay store, i think they are updating the stock.

  • +2

JBHIFi just matched this online price in store. $2991 for MacBook 15inch 256gb

    • Wow rly! 14.5% off as well?

      • This was after the discount. I belive they are $3499 full price.

  • 14.5% is still on, use PMYERTECH now

  • Anyone actually had their item shipped yet? 3 days in and nothing for me.

    • Same here
Estimated on eBay as tomorrow .

If anyone gets it or gets updated shipping info please let us know.

      • I’ve got tracking info now, but it’s been listed as ‘waiting for pickup’ since 7am this morning.

        • Where do you see the tracking?

        • @Gearup:

          They sent me an email.

        • @Gearup:
Although it's now been 'waiting for pickup' for 24 hours.
And AusPost wonder why they're circling the drain.

        • @leethompson: Just received an email yesterday from Myer saying "THERE'S BEEN A DELAY WITH YOUR ORDER" :'(

        • I ebay messaged them they tell me it takes them 4-7 days to process it then a further 4-7 days to deliver. I just sold and sent my old notebook today as I was expecting my Mac today. They are advertising fast n free?

Negative ebay feedback will be forthcoming. Solomon Lew will be happy, more evidence for him to clear the Myer board!

        • @zZFreezyZz:

Oh how odd, mine is out for delivery today, and I paid for it on Sunday night so I would have been one of the last people to get one.

        • @leethompson: Just got a notification saying they post the item

        • I’ve got something due tomorrow via text msg. Sender is VICTORIAN FULFILMENT. Sunshine West

          Wonder if that’s Myer.

        • @Gearup:

          Yeah that’ll be it.

        • @leethompson:
          Finally!
